  1. Another great job by the hunting shows. At least you couldn't see the leesh holding the deer still from that far away!
  2. Cut a piece of tampon(this has NOTHING to do with you being a woman) and cram it up yr nostrils. We used to use them during wrestling all the time when someone had a nosebleed that would not stop.....then send a pic in full gear!
  3. My guess is that u need to purchase it when u r in the state but once you have it you r good for life
  4. What's a shoulder mount buck cos these days? Last mount i had done was about 7 yrs ago
  5. The latest field and stream mag recommends spraying the hide its raid to kill ticks? Is that a Good idea? Couls tha damage the hide in an way? this tip was part of an article on tanning a hide in a NY apt....after reading about this process and watching a boatload of vids on the process their simplistic approach is absolutely setting people up for disaster
  6. I bought in stages so I lost track of cost. Started with jus fishing, added sportsman, then 4 years ago added bow in addition to lifetimes for my twin boys before the fee hike. It is truly the best huntingpurchase I made in terms of its return. My favorite part is that all the tags just show up at my door where in the past I was always forgetting to get it and running out last minute. I bought the licenses for my boys when they were three just in case they move out of the state in the future. If they get into it, I want them to be able to hunt with me in NY. if not, it's a few hundred bucks I would have either drank away or burned on something else. The hole of future hunting with my kids is worth the risk. One boy is looking pretty promising (he found us first shed las year at 7-other boy is on the fence right now). In an extremely sexist move, I did not get one for my daughter who has as much interest as m shed hunter! Any chance I can transfer one licensee to her?
  7. Rossi..have you come across some info that makes you believe this is happening? Some type of "Occupy Deer Street" thing?
  8. My buddy decided on g5 montec cs after this weekend of "taste-testing" vs. the muzzys 4 blade. We both noticed an increase drop from the muzzy with a pretty significant pull to the right. with his concern being the flight of the arrow and its accuracy the g5 seemed to preform better. I'm gonna stick with the spitfires since they fly pretty true to my field points.
  9. I hunt with the same partner all the time. When we hunt, especially with bow, we are often within 100 yards of one another. But, we ae hunting together often trying to cover one area completely. as opposed to you trying to hunt near someone from another group or another single. That's much harder since you don't know wha the knows or has seen. You may pick a spot far enough away from him but select an area that he was purposely leaving vacant. All that being said, if its state land, first come first serve.
  10. 45 degrees with 70% chance of rain in my opening day area. Thank God they are ALWAYS WRONG!
  11. Does the fleshing need to be done right away or can that be done after the season? I want to make sure I take m time and do t right so I was hoping to just skin it...freeze it...and start the whole process a seasons end. Will that work?
  12. Gonna head to land Sunday before opening day. Probably camp out Sunday night and hunt all day monday. Only thing I need to figure out still is what to do if I get a deer early Monday morning and my partner wants to stay for the pm hunt. I hope to process my own deer but have no way of preventing spoilage if I can't take car of I immediately.....suggestions welcome!
  13. My point exactly...nor would I be willing to accept that responsibility for another's child
  14. Can you post some of your practice videos? My buddy is in the market and is concerned about what happens when you shot. Can you hold it steady enough to see the arrow contact? I am assuming it is mounted to your bow.
  15. I feel the best way to improve the hunting numbers are to get parents involved. I have an 8 year old and twin 7 yr olds, all of which love being outdoors (camping, fishing, geocaching, etc.) because my wife and I love being outdoors. I have not taken my kids in the field with me yet during any type of hunt, but one of my twin boys is really showing an interest this year so a ground blind may be in order. They enjoy the outdoors because my wife and I make the outdoors a priority in vacations and weekends. Hunting is definitely something they see as normal and fun and cool at this point...crossing my fingers that their middle school years don't take that away! My issue with bringing another child on a hunt besides my own is many. Regardless of how safety conscience we all are, hunting is a dangerous game and I do not know if I could handle that responsibility with another person's child, even with their blessing. Secondly, I know I would NEVER send my child with some one else regardless of their credentials or experience. Now if I can get my friend who has three kids involved, the link to his children is made more easily. Starting at the youth level is the wrong way to go because we need their parents to buy in first.
  16. I'm hoping to make some buckskin this season. It will be my first attempt. if I get a deer early in the season and don't want to start the process until hunting season ends. What do I need to do immediately after harvest? Best storage method until I can begin the process? Also, this is the site that seems to be most clear for me. An advice or changes you would recommend? http://www.shanepotter.com/hidetanning.html
  17. I also shotgun on 3n public lands and one time remember "racing" this other car to a parking spot. I made a rite turn in front of him about 2 miles before the parking area. He was pissed and tailed me to where we both wanted to park. After some lite un-pleasantries and my car snugly nestled into the spot we parted ways. He took the next spot further down the dirt road. The next time I saw him, I was up under my tree flashing him with my light since he was headed my way...hahah..beat him twice in one day! I would not leave my stand in the woods. Way too many people on the public lands between bikers, hikers, families, etc. I would be more worried about those tree-huggers messing with my stand than another hunter stealing it.
  18. I try to work different foot positions into my practic routine to help this xact scenario. Regardless of the practice, they still find that one way in that I have never thought of...
  19. This is such an individual question. I, never have shot a buck with a bow yet, would take him without hesitation. Sounds like you have a real plan for your management of your herd. I am jealous and don't have that ability since most of my hunting is public lands so I can only take what I get before the next gu does.
  20. If the blind has been out since last season with the moth balls in it, wouldn't the same principle apply that the game is used to it being there regardless of what the odor or shape is? I would think if the game stuck around after the initial introduction of the moth balls, they would just see it/smell it as normal for that area???
  21. Anyone out here participating in the Muscoot/ward pound management program? My buddy and i are in for the first time this year and we are looking for a good place to start. Scouting has been difficult due to limited parking opportunities prior to the season. Also think it would be good use this forum to keep each other up to date as to doe movements. I'm not trying to steal or honey holes. But if you wan to share, I won't complain!
  22. I got 3f and 3n...will wait for nov 1 for bonus tags for 3s.
  23. If it acts as a muffler and scent block I'm sold! Sorry couldn't resist.
  24. I left my release in the car one morning. Walked back to my buddy's car to get it to find the car locked and the keys not in our normal hiding place by the vehicle. Busted my ass to his stand which was DEEP then back to the car, back to my stand and as I near my area there she is...the perfect freezer fare. I swear I heard her chuckle as she galloped away.
  25. I live in westchester and used amatos in the past but you would need to cross the bridge. He is located on rt 35 near Yorktown. He does a good job. I did process my own deer once and brought it to my house (my backayard/butcher shop during the season shares a fence with four other families so we are tightly configure) . While I had some neighbors initially a bit queezy about seeing the deer, it gave me an opportunity to show off what great meat it is, opened a dialogue about hunting and deer populations and about why harvesting deer is not as gruesome and it is made out to be by our antis. After throwing some nice blackstrap on the grill, they no longer wished me any ill will and are now my biggest cheerleaders for this season!
