  1. I have a family of coons that love my garbage. In the past I have used havaheart traps to relocate pesky garbage thieves. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I am wondering if I could dispatch of the next coon trapped to make a pelt. I do not have a trappers license which is one of the main reasons why I would assume the answer in "no"
  2. It's amazing the things we photograph! Thank god we no longer need to get film developed or we'd have lots of explaining to do.
  3. Nice one grow...another new hunter to our ranks.
  4. Great video. Putting yote hunting on my list of things to do
  5. Anyone have a recommendation for the Ameristep Doghouse Blind real tree ap? I can find the dimensions on amazon which is offering it for $68.00. Can two people (1 is only 8 yrs old)? Original price is about $130...so I like the sound of that deal
  6. If charged, I think we are shat out of luck! Theres no way i would be able to nock and arrow, draw back and aim..its hundred of pounds of pissed off TEETH! My reaction would be to fight and flail. Grab arrows out of quiver to stab as much as possible. Grab gutting knife and stab like crazy...what else can you do? PRAY like you never prayed before!
  7. My 8 year old has been busting m stones about taking him hunting with me. For that reason, was considering a ground blind since I only hunt out of a climber now. Are all shots from a ground bond from a seated position? If so, that is not something i never practiced and would be concerned about making a move to seated shots this season without ample practice time.
  8. I guess I spoke to the wrong person when I asked a few years back. But I received a disgusted, "NO!" like I offended the person i asked. Personally, I would no pay $200 to hunt there when there are many places open to hunting through DEC.
  9. Clearly that was the right shot for you. Thread title says it all! Congrats.
  10. My only deer came via shotgun one morning as I sat on a rock wall behind a gnarly tree. Now that I'm bow hunting, I love the climber. Not comfortable bringing the shotgun up there though.
  11. I keep an extra screw-in hook in my safety harness pocket. Just in case I fall, I have something handy to screw in and use as a step back up to my stand. Carry extra batteries for flashlight and/or gps.
  12. I know it's out of my range and I feel that too man things can go wrong. Hell, I've missed we're at15 yards due to stray twigs I didn't see til the arrow diverted its course in mid flight. What are you NOT seeing at 50 yards....ain't worth the risk for me.
  13. Thanks Stevemcd...I am guessing some found there way to great swamp and hingham usually gets a few. Someone mentioned in another thread that cranberry mountain shows little sign of birds past or present this season...I haven't been it yet but hope to find some time this coming weekend.

I have asked at some of the orchards for permission and I was met with GREAT DISGUST at outhouse off hardscrabble road. My buddy asked once at salingers (think that's the name) but I think they already have people who pay to hunt after the picking is done. This is my first year in the deer management program. Look into it for next year. So far I love the experience even though I have not seen the deer yet. Great guys who HELP find the deer, tell you we're to hunt and truly enjoy the work of harvesting some game. It gives access to Lasdon, mountain lakes, Muscoot farm and ward pound(loaded with deer). You have to guarantee 10 hunts, harvest a doe first, and record all kills and sightings.
  15. I've never been in a primetime light but at 230+ lbs anything lite and I don't mix! I like the very sturdy feel of the summit...I'll pay the extra $100 bucks for the safe feeling 20' up.
  16. While climbers are limited to straight tree without many branches, I love the flexibility the offer. By the time I am at my tree, I'm up with bow in hand in fifteen minutes. I know there are some threads out there now talking about how nervous people are with them. I just don't see/feel it. It does take some getting used to so plan on spending some time pre-season climbing only a few feet off the ground to see what it feels like to tie it in, screw in your hooks, test your bow holders. There's a lot to do on that limited size platform but once you are comfortable, I feel totally safe
  17. That was not the deer you shot standing there after the shot was it? Placement looked perfect. Great video
  18. I hear dat...I just need to feel like we have a shot at seeing something!
  19. Thanks G&R...that's surprising. They usually load up on week 1 and maybe one other time in the season..pretty sad!
  20. There's a lot of well worn paths through cranberry that I walk REAL SLOW and often jus catch a tail flashing around...by the way...any pheasants released there this year?
  21. Real sorry about your loss Woodcock. Trico (now eight) and i had some good times up at sterling forest chasing the woodcocks although I've disappointed my pup a whole bunch of times missing on good birds he put up. My britt is my first birddog and he has taught me a lot. He has given me this look at times when I whiff a shot that is awesome. He seems to hang his head like, "what's wrong with you? I busted my ass to get to that bird and you missed???" What a great breed.
  22. Congrats Vic and nice job mike103 helping the future hunters!
  23. When you hunt public land all bets are off. I have had hunts interrupted by bikers, hikers, other hunters, families, dogs and even mushroom hunters on public land. IT SUCKS but its the price for not having to carry a note and pay taxes on land I do not own. It's a crappy feeling when the prime time arrives in the am after you have been sitting in the dark for an hour and turn to crunchy leaves to see something other than your intended game. Can I be mad? Yea! Can they be there? Yes...unless I'm hunting!
  24. There's a place called blue mountain sportsman center near Buchanan that has an archery range and 3D course that you can shoot. Don't know if that's too far tough.
