  1. Watching on animal planet right now Bigfoot hunters in NEW YORK... had a meeting with people from Patterson..funny $hit..they bought a monkey from Bronx zoo to make noise and catch um that way
  2. Years ago I hunted at Russell brook. It was actually my first deer hunt and I was woefully unprepared. Woke up to 5 in of snow on the ground and whipping wind. Snow dumped out of trees all day LNG, soaking me.
  3. I agree that this is BS but, if I find a salt lick in the area I hunt that I did not place there and I hunt over it, won't I get nailed for hunting over bait? Kind of the same thing except for the salt lick being manufactured and not grown on site.
  4. Oh man...getting near seasons end if these are the threads...lmao..I believe the squatchers did a show in ny...big fan...I'd let it walk...he'd be a better trophy with another year of growth
  5. Oddly enough I saw the most movement last weekend...temps were not as warm as going to be but It was not as cold as usual
  6. Two weeks ago I found a dead doe on prop I hunt. Could not find entry/exit but due to smell I wasn't checking too close. Went back this weekend and she is still there, UNTOUCHED by an animals and there are a fair number of coyotes, fox, and recently we saw a bobcat in area. Shocked that it no on apart seeing as gut piles and remains are gone the next day. Strange crap happens out there
  7. I used the permentian spray for the firs time this year and have been extreme pleased. I hunt an area that is typically loaded with ticks and I found none this year on m gear or self. And, the deer partners shot were all loaded. Went bird hunting twice in a location near m deer spot and my dog waslloaded with ticks and i found a few on my clothes which were not treated....until that evening when everything got sprayed down.
  8. Tx Martin..I'm just having a hard time wrapping my brain around hunting when I can't see. If I figure that out, I would love to hit some open fields where I deer hunt...puppy population seems too be up since I've seen a few from a distance this year. Do you spotlight them and shoot? Two man job? Night vision? Man...the mrs is gonna love all the new purchases I need to make to get into this too.
  9. Headin out after drop my kids at parties. May be my last two hunts for the year(pm and us am)...empty freezer-fingers crossed,
  10. I know nothing about dog hunting. Anyone target coyote during the day? Same tactics?i have seen some coyotes duing my deer hunts. Why SO late? Wih I getting dark at 5:00 now, I would think u can get out there in the evening...
  11. Agreed doc. Regardless of legality, the image of hunters would be greatly strained if common decency is put aside. I just hope that Crackers neighbor shows the same respect to Crackers family that he is showing by not calling in the authorities immediately. I understand trying to work it out as neighbors and hope it is now resolved.
  12. Thanks for your input and advice. Even if I were to get permission, I just don't like the idea of sitting in someone's backyard, overlooking their pool, having cars pull in and out. I may venture further away, after discussing my presence with all households. I don't need the stress of worrying that someone in the burbs will call the cops even if all was legit. I still don't like the idea of having to do a recovery in front of little suburban kids..dad will prob sue me for emotional distress and I'll spend my hunting funds on prescription meds and psychotherapy for his kids. How about the buildings across the street down the hill? M best guesstimate is that the building is about 400 away...straight across. But I am straight up a hill from the buildings..lets call is 150 just to make a good discussion. All distances can only be a guess since I couldn't range it due to the heavy brush. I don't think it matters but again, I would be sitting with m back to this area and no shot will eve go that way.
  13. My hearts hit the frying pan too quick to see a pickle jar! Sorry I can't help.
  14. A fellow worker was complaining about an excessive amount of deer eating his shrubs. I offered my bowhunting services and he invited me to hunt the hill behind his house. When I arrived and walked behind his house, I was leery. There were three other houses up the hill to the left. All houses ranged 500' or more away from where I would set up. There was an older shed at the edge of a property, not 500' from my spot...that's my first question. Is it 500' from a dwelling or structure? Behind my set up is a hill that drops straight down and contains two buildings across a street from where I would sit. Probably under 500' away from my set up but too brushy to range. I assume i need to be 500' from there as well even if I will never have a shot in that direction. Long story short, I decided I would never hunt there. There is no way I would be comfortable enough to arrow a deer and have it end up in some kids backyard but I am curious still about its legality of the downhill structure and the shed
  15. I used to hunt state land often prior to learning to bow hunt. The lands I shotgun hunted were also open to hiker, biker, and everything else you can do outdoors. Having to share the woods with others was one reason people voiced frustration when I was hunting those state properties. I did not mind it so much since I hunt deep and likes when games was gently nudged by mountin bikers. What lathered me was how unaware, and as a result, unsafe these "other" were..never any brightl colored clothing and no idea hunting was taking place.
  16. I assume that rule is made to account for human error since from a distance, points short of three inches are tough to see. I don't think it supposed to be used by hunters to intentionally fill a doe tag with button bucks or short spikes. Additionally, I saw a bizarre deer at the processor the other day. It was a male deer with an under three inch spike on one side and the other side (also under three inches) seem to barely split into two points. A buck tag was used but I am wondering if a doe tag could have been used if following the letter of the law?
  17. I've had some nice conversations with officers in Patterson while small game hunting. Unfortunately, the negative experiences stand out much more. One 4th of July weekend I was visiting family in pa and took my young kids fishing to the lake. I have no license for pa and was helping my kids fish(they were 4 at the time). I'd cast out the bobber and worm and hand the pole to my kids and repeat for the other kid. Two officers drove from the middle of the lake in a patrol boat. As I saw them coming, I said that I should just go and not bother with them but since I did not feel I was doing anything wrong, I stayed. Wrong move...hit me with a $75 ticket for fishing without a license even though I was just helping kids. They said they saw me both casting and reeling which constitutes fishing...jackasses...They could have let that slide no?
  18. I'm committed to bow hunting all year just because it has been two years of bow without getting m first. So i am hoping my persistence pays off this season.
  19. No, how I choose to photo my deer has everything to do with aesthetics, not respect.
  20. Because I like my deer photographed more "cleaned up" - wipe the blood, retuck the tongue etc...since my pics are shared with friends and family who are not hunter and/or my young kids who I want to more gently introduce the mortality of the game.
  21. Good taste? No... I would not have taken the photo or posted the photo with the arrow protruding in the manner. But I don't not see it as disrespectful. It happened, whether it was a bad shot or bad luck or an ill-adviced shot or what other opinion has been previously discussed. Others have learned from this experience which is valuable. It was not a staged shot meant to "disrespect" wildlife. I'm just glad he didn't hang it by the neck to boot.
  22. Went bird hunting on some state land that stocked years back. Had to wait in the lot for a space to open up since they only allowed five cars at a time. After waiting 1+ hours, I got my spot, got all dressed, dog all set, loaded vest with shot and grabbed my.....$hit wheres my gun! Safe and sound in the garage....man was my dog pissed!
  23. Uh oh...back to respect the dead and disemboweled game??? Just don't hang it by the neck..we did that thread already
  24. Disney also does a great job at ruining the image of hunters. The movie "Open Season" was banned from my house after hunters were as beer guzzling gun wielding morons. Even my kids said during their limited viewing, "that's not what you and uncle bill look like when yor hunting!" I agree though that its a survival of the fittest world out there..how many mama's were saved because their doppy fawns ran haphazardly into the field in front of an impatient hunter? I don't think mama hung around to grieve..she boogied to find cover!
