"What's wrong with this deer" It had the misfortune of logging into this forum, and it went into convulsions after reading the BS that is written here.

Whether it's a dog barking out of control, or someone spending a bunch of hours each weekend firing away, it's downright annoying for a neighbor to be listening to it. A person is entitled to have some peace and quiet in their own homes with the windows shut. Constant noise from barking dogs, dirt bikes OR gunfire will penetrate a shut window. If someone doesn't give a hoot about being the cause of such noise, so be it, but just don't be surprised when someone does confront you about it, and it's only a matter of time before someone does. Telling someone that it's your legal right to do so will not be a good enough of answer for everyone. They also have every legal right to think of you as an arrogant butt- hole, that has no respect for their neighbors. Surely won't help in winning anyone over to the gun rights point of view either. With rights comes responsibility and some respect.

Legal or not, I think it's flat out rude to shoot dozens upon dozens of rounds, if you are situated in close proximity to other homes. Maybe if you live 1/2 mile or more from another house, you could go at it, but in most areas in NYS, that isn't the case. I would excuse an occasional sighting in session, or what not, but shooting hours on end is unacceptable. If you like to shoot a lot, find yourself a shooting range and shoot there. Disturbing the peace with loud blasts around peoples homes won't make you a hero to very many, other than to those of a similar uncaring, I do what I want mindset.

3,000 deer on LI in federal sharpshooters' sights this winter
steve863 replied to the blur's topic in Deer Hunting
Look, I've hunted long enough to know that hunting is NOT a slam dunk anywhere. When you want deer to show up, they very well may not. That is not the argument here. The argument is whether a suburban environment is a natural environment for deer. It surely is not. The Catskills and Adirondacks may not hold many deer, but guess what? It surely is a more natural environment for them, than the LI suburbs are. In fact the big woods replicate what most of the northeast was before the white man settled on this land. So you can continue to believe whatever you want, but you guys surely won't convince me that LI is ideal habitat for deer. -

My goodness, and you are telling us that we don't get it? Deer are opportunist, just like many animals are. Without predators, with limited hunter access, and with just enough cover and food they find in peoples gardens they will surely multiply WAY quicker than they would in other more natural settings. Is this the ideal environment for deer, let alone the people who have to deal with them? Absolutely NOT. Them multiplying rapidly does not equate to a great habitat for them. You can believe whatever the hell you want, though. I have more important things to do than arguing with you. -

I am not twisting anything. If you think having scores of deer in suburban areas is a great habitat for an animal like deer, then I surely don't need to do anymore twisting. -

Is that the best reply you could come up with?? That to you is "thriving", where you can practically club them over the head?? Why don't you post some actual first hand proof of what you believe to be true on LI as I just did? I know you can't. Also, I can vividly remember one of your essays on how hunting in your beloved Adirondacks is so much more a REAL hunt, compared to places like LI, and now you are changing your tune and trying to make LI out to be this mecca for the deer species? Unbelievable! -

Making any sort of statement here is like swatting a hornets nets. And then the clowns come a buzzin. LOL I love how some of you think that I've never stepped foot on LI. I've posted these videos before a couple years back. This was a gentle stroll on Fire Island with my wife and brother on a couple of weekend mornings about 10 years ago now. I brought along a tripod and my video camera because I knew I'd easily find and see deer. Here are the results. Now go ahead and tell me this is a natural environment for deer? I could have practically grabbed a number of these bucks by their antlers. They had absolutely NO fear of man. Just go ahead and try to find a scene like this as easily and quickly in a REAL natural deer environment elsewhere. In many places on LI it's like a petting zoo. You boys really need to stop with your accusations and nonsense because some of us may understand the situation better than you. You guys simply try to justify things in the way you WISH things were on LI. -

Very few non-hunters, and even few hunters would be crying on LI if all the deer did get killed. Deer quite honestly don't belong in most of the areas on LI. Other than on the far east end, LI is nowhere near great habitat for large mammals like deer. They are a nuisance more than anything else. The state and the people living on LI are more concerned with them being a nuisance than about you and other hunters having a huntable population. You need to start understanding this. In a suburban type environment like LI, the LAST thing on the minds of it's residents is to keep a population of deer available for you to hunt. -
wtf my daughters school telling her hunting is bad
steve863 replied to silent death's topic in General Chit Chat
Why in God's name would anyone bring this subject up with their freaking doctors?? I know none of us like those rectal exams, but come on. Don't bring a subject like this up or start bad mouthing the government, and maybe the doctor won't have a reason to think you are nuts. I would think this is common sense. Make yourself look like a looney tune and some people may start believing it. -
Here's a joke for you Ants. Those who call themselves "Ants" probably have a brain the size of an ants. Hope you find the humor in that, cause I sure do.
-
Wrong, there has always been non-stop fun in my house, and it spills into school where teachers tell me that my kids are fun loving, well behaved youngsters. I definitely DON'T however present an attitude to them that is exhibited on that sign in the first post here. They may not always do the right thing, but I will not demean them and make them think that they are nothing but dumb kids who just make stupid mistake after mistake. That is probably why the words "I hate you" are never heard in my house, while others here tell me that they heard it a lot from their kids. Which brings things back to the first bloody point I tried to make here about that sign, and why I don't see the humor in it like the rest here. Most here think they are superb parents however, while they think I'm the dope, so go figure why more crap has happened with their kids than with mine? LOL
-
Doc, if you with your over 7000 essays haven't won the blowhard award here, I don't know who else has? Yeah, OK you guys claim this thread is a joke. Why don't you reread my first post (which was meant to be my only post) here then. I only made a statement that it is not wise to throw such attitudes at kids. You guys obviously took things personally when I made that statement since you all went wild and elected to tell me the situations with your own kids. If people tell me things like that their kids kept telling them that they hated them, then I surely will put in my two cents on why that probably occurred. So all you people want is that when someone starts a thread like this, the only replies are "haha" and that's it?? Jesus Christ Doc, then you sure as hell ought to reread some of your posts once in a bloody while if that's what you expect from the rest of us!!!
-
This is completely foreign to me. Never in my life did I tell my parents that I hate them, nor did I ever hear it from my kids or wife for that matter. I think some of you may need to reevaluate yourselves as parents, and you might be giving yourselves more credit than you deserve.
-
Oh man, this is just too funny!!! First the crossbow organizations want us to send Bon-bons and thank you notes to Cuomo for his support of crossbows and now the LI bow hunters are rallying with animal rights people against the cull. I guess next we will hear the antler restriction supporters admit that they are gay! LOL. Man, hunters are doomed for sure!
-
Wow Ants, I'm the one crying? I made a general statement and then you suggest that I must be a teenager, that this post was only a joke, etc. etc. You went completely wild to the simple statement I made about that sign. I honestly could give a $hit what you think. I have way more important things to do than listen to any of your nonsense.
-
Yup, you can have an opinion on my post and I had an opinion on the initial one in the thread, which you obviously didn't like. LOL
-
I could care less if anyone made a response. I made a general statement that it is not wise to throw such signs at teenagers if you want them to treat you with some respect. You guys took what I said and went wild. What else can I tell you guys?? You guys are absolutely unbelievable.
-
I have absolutely NOTHING to be defensive about here. I stand by what I said. You were the first to jump on what I stated, so people can come to their own conclusions on who is being defensive here.
-
I think you fellas need to chill out more than me. I made a general statement to your post and some of you here are getting defensive about it. It's almost like I swatted a hornets nest of parents who somehow feel guilt over what I stated. That's your problem and not mine.
-
I can't disagree with anything except the last sentence. The 863 behind my name refers to the month and year of my birth, so I've got two years on you. LOL
-
Not since 1985 when I graduated college.
-
I am so grateful that I have a know-it-all like you showing me the way. LOL
-
Yeah, and I've known lots that were totally respectful, and never showed this know-it-all attitude you guys are harping on here. They were terrific kids in every way. Why should they not feel that a sign like that is not a swipe at them also? What can I tell you guys? From my experience, those kids who get out of control and think they know more than anyone probably have parents who think they know it all, too.
-
So what you are saying is that a person must in some way prove themselves to earn your respect before you treat them with any sort of dignity?
