  1. We kill animals don't we?? And killing leads to death, don't it?? How a hunter can say that there are NO lessons to be learned about death while hunting is beyond me. If there is NO lesson to be learned, then our killing of the animal has little significance and we might as well just leave it laying in the field. Your trophy then has little value and the meat I get from a deer should not be treasured anymore than a McDonalds hamburger. I myself think there are plenty of lessons to be learned from the death we see in hunting. It even makes some of us reflect on our own inevitable deaths and of those we love. Today it was the deers turn to take it's last gasp in life, in the future it will be our turn. It is one thing that ALL life forms have in common. A good thing to keep in back of our minds in my opinion.
  2. Ahh, someone just PM'd me that it's really Wooly's wife. I won't mention who that someone is, though.
  3. No, that IS the farmers wife! LOL
  4. LOL. Looks like you're smothering it with love, too!
  5. OK Deerthug, no souvlaki for a month for posting such a picture on this site! LOL
  6. Great post, Jennifer. I do still think there are even quite a few hunters out there who really don't understand it all. I have seen quite a few hunters who have hunted for decades and have never butchered a deer themselves and some wouldn't even know where to begin. To me this is even worse than the non-hunters who don't get it.
  7. Glad you are making sense of what I am trying to say. I don't want to get into the gun debate here either, but I have always believed that it's also a whole lot easier killing another human with an easy available gun than it would be by knife, strangulation or otherwise. Of course the gun lovers don't want to hear this, but there is a hell of a lot of truth in it in my opinion. There would be MANY people rethinking murder if the only means of doing it was without a gun.
  8. +1 I don't own one but can't see how those carts wouldn't be a good idea in most any situation. They are really quite inexpensive and won't take up your entire garage space like an ATV will. I find it hilarious when I see people hauling their ATV's hundreds of miles to their hunting locations, and their treestands are spitting distance from the road. Makes absolutely NO sense. If they simply want to joy ride on these things, they don't need to wait for hunting season to do it.
  9. I personally think it's something every hunter should experience. Killing an animal with a gun or bow does not give a person the same sense of what they have just done, which is taking a life, as if you actually have to put your hands on it and kill it with a knife. The sense of what one has just done and the finality is far greater and more personal when cutting it's throat or stabbing it in the heart or lungs. I think it is a good lesson for hunters. Killing with a gun or bow can remove us some from the brutality of killing, and make us forget what we are actually doing, which IS killing. It is good to be reminded once in a while the realities of it all, just so we don't start taking things too lightly.
  10. I'll be damned if I will buy and store an ATV throughout the year for the few weeks I hunt each year. When I put one down, it gets dragged out. No big deal. The problem is that hunters can be lazy and out of shape. Many hunters these days can't even walk the 150 yards to their stands without an ATV. If the only exertion one does is during hunting season, then most definitely you won't have the stamina to drag one out.
  11. Interesting combo, that's for sure! LOL It made me think of a joke. What does an offspring of Greek and Italian parents do when they shoot a nice buck?? answer: They go calling everyone they know up asking for a buck tag (since they already used the first one up) (these are the Italian genes at work) and then they strap the buck to the roof of their vehicle and drive it around Astoria, Queens for 3 days to show it off!(these are the Greek genes at work) LOL
  12. You are probably being low balled, because you can get a brand new .30-06 from several different manufacturers for a little more than you are asking for old guns. Just my .02 here.
  13. Looks like the town of Hunter is in 3A. I don't know where this resort would fall under, but this DEC map might help you. http://www.eregulations.com/newyork/hunting/pageflip/
  14. LOL! Great story and buck!! Wooly for President! LOL
  15. You've got a dandy chunk of real estate up there, Burt! We had one hell of a weekend and we didn't shoot only the does.
  16. Now there's a great story! Sounds like the rut was in full swing that day. I bet if there was ever a day you were glad your camo was keeping you well hidden, it was that day, huh? LOL
  17. Man, these beetles clean things up real good! Maybe once I kick the bucket my wife can send you my head? I have NO doubt you'll find a skull deformity or two! LOL
  18. Me and Doe have been wondering if Robinson is related to Growalot? LOL A nephew maybe? Maybe Pygmy's DNA testing might give us some answers?
  19. If you bring a plastic bottle of water, it surely won't be "room temp" after a few hours in the stand on a cold day. Even if the bottle is in your backpack it will be quite cold. My experience has been that a warm drink can definitely help keep someone in the stand longer.
  20. Yeah, I bring a thermos. I've had to put the cup down several times to pick up my rifle and shoot a deer. Deer can probably smell our sweaty socks, underwear, etc. so I won't be worried about it smelling what's inside my thermos. If the deer will smell us, they will smell us before we pull the thermos out.
  21. I couldn't begin to guess what these two clowns were doing in the woods together, but it was kind of funny that one of them looked like he was pulling his pants up on the way out. LOL
  22. I know what some of you mean about the old Monday opener. There was something unique about it. But I tell you I rather have the 2 extra days of hunting over the old day or two of just BSing and waiting around. Plus, the Sunday before the opener all you heard was gunshots all over the place where guys who hadn't touched their guns from last year were sighting in the last minute. I honestly think the Saturday opener works out better overall.
  23. This is getting freakier by the second. Looks like there are some real connections between Elmo and the thing he talked about tasting. Frightening stuff to say the least. We've gone from Growalot's DNA to Elmo's privates in this thread. What a classic! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ELMO%20The%20Penis
