You got that right, Doe. Some people like to shoot chipmunks, porcupines, etc. and seem to be proud of themselves, but since I have NO interest in eating anything like that, they will continue to live if they wander my way. A pig won't be so lucky. I see a pig and I see pork chops!! Mmmm, yummy!

Oh my! And you think you're a "big bad hunter" just because you THINK you will have more chances at a pope & young buck if everyone lets the smaller ones walk? Go hunt whatever you want to hunt for, and don't worry about the other guy. He had every right to shoot the deer that he did.

A clip of Karpteach and Deerthug practicing their dancing for the venison BBQ this weekend! Enjoy fellas.

Article about how deer hunting doesn't reduce car-deer accidents
steve863 replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Man, this has got to be one of the most biased and dumbest articles I ever read. Maybe car accidents involving deer has not been reduced, but why would anyone think that if there was no hunting that there wouldn't be more car accidents? And they said "conventional hunting is also known as TROPHY hunting" What the hell is that?? In most places these days both bucks and does are taken by hunters as we all know. Hardly anything was the truth in this article. -
Most fathers and grandfathers hunted from the ground. Treestands have become more popular in the last 30 years or so. Even a camo rope around your waste is better than nothing in my opinion. Yeah, I know they say a waste only harness will cut off you circulation and breath and all, but it's way better than falling the whole way down. If you have a knife around your waste, you can always cut yourself down and only maybe fall a short distance or you can swing over and maybe hug a tree or limb instead of falling. Just my .02, but breaking your neck or killing yourself is not worth it just to kill a bloody deer.

WITH or WITHOUT a harness, 35 feet is absolutely ridiculous. How high are telephone poles? Sure as hell can't be 35 feet, so to go higher than that is just asking for it.

I definitely don't think anyone needs a scope of over 9X or 10X on a big game hunting rifle. Anything past 200 yards is a LONG shot and I think most people can't make a shot like that even with a more powerful scope. With that said, I can certainly place a shot more precisely with a scope set at 9X compared to it set at 3X. Why do we use binoculars? To have something brought closer to our eyes so that we can see it better. Same with a rifle scope. If the target image is closer, the crosshairs can be placed more precisely. If it were true that one could shoot with a 3X scope as well as with a 10X or more than you wouldn't see expert shooters like snipers, target or varmint shooters with high powered scopes as often as you do. There are good reasons for high powered scopes, but in general I think 9X or 10X is the max needed for big game hunting within the ranges that most people should keep their shots.

What you guys do is good, but I have a hard time believing you get to 95% of the people that call on you. If this forum is just a small sample of how many people wound deer out there and then want to call you, you guys would be working 24/7. I can't imagine that there are too many dogs and handlers out there doing this either.

LOL! I heard they don't marry anyone who isn't at least 2nd cousin or closer. Marrying a 3rd cousin is allowed only if the brides father throws in a coon dog for the groom.

LOL. I think it's the Mountain Dew soda they seem to like so much down south that does a number on them! They once did a whole program on 20/20 talking about it. Funny and sad all at the same time.

Damn, that coyote has some clean, healthy looking teeth! I wonder what toothpaste he used?

I think you'll find pages 48-52 under Burt's favorite stand. I forgot my toilet paper last weekend!

See, that's exactly what typically happens around here. People take offense for the simplest things, even a joke. I could care less about the Giants, Jets, or any football team. My post was meant for a laugh at ourselves only, but I guess many people around here don't have much of a sense of humor which is sad really. I've always said those that are overly sensitive, sensitive to criticism of any sort, or can't handle a good debate with people of differing views, probably shouldn't participate in such forums. Really, if the only posts that people can handle are the "good going" or "that a boy" ones, why should we then even have a forum at all? If nothing relevant is ever discussed, wouldn't the idea behind a forum be completely pointless? It's really hard to understand what many here want. A forum like that would be dead in no time. That I can assure them.

They suck, as do their fans. Just trying to keep the thread on the right track here.

I'm loving this thread. Can't wait to post the "kumbaya" video once things settle down a bit and we are all friends again.

Arizona Coues Whitetail 2011 and some camp visitors

Should have given them a couple of dollars, maybe they could have helped you pack the deer out?? LOL -
Probably even That would give him even more reason to get evaluated by a shrink then! The name I give the deer I shoot is VENISON written on the package that I put in the freezer so that it isn't mistaken for the other meat in there.

Earl, huh?? I'm sure a psychiatrist would have a field day trying to figure out why you named him Earl. LOL What will your next wallhanger be called? Wilber?

I think it was Doe who got the socks. Same gift he gets from them every year. They bought a package of 8 pairs eight years ago and have been giving him a pair from the same package for 8 Christmases now. I guess this year he might be getting something different. I bet Doe is besides himself in anticipation? -

I don't know if it's the same thing as a family vacation. I wouldn't see anything wrong with videotaping the hunting camp, the people there, you know the basic stuff one would with a family vacation video. The KILL in hunting is something very different, though. One needs the concentration to be focused on making that KILL and not something else. If one wants to video or photograph animals, they don't need to wait for hunting season to do it. Like I said having that shaky, grainy video from a camera mounted to a tree or weapon will do little to preserve the moment. Besides how many people, even family members really want to watch us killing something? Maybe some others who also hunt might want to see it, but I can guarantee you they wouldn't want to see it more than once. Same goes for the family vacation videos by the way. LOL -

I don't care what type of contraption they invent. I for one will never understand the need to videotape ones own kill. I could see why hunting shows do it, and that's for entertainment, and to make money, but why would I want to record one of my own kills? Isn't it way better to just have it etched in your memory and maybe a photo or two with the animal once it's down? A shaky, grainy video of the kill will do what for us? And what is one supposed to do when an animal give you a shot? Do you fiddle with on/off switch on the video camera or do you concentrate on making an accurate killing shot with your weapon?? I will never get why any hunter (other than those in the hunting TV show business) would need a videocamera on his head or weapon to record the moment. -
LOL! Maybe we could send these bucks to Michelle Bachman's husband for some therapy? Don't know if he works with animals, though.

What type of .30-06 ammunition to use for deer hunting?
steve863 replied to mossy725's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I completely agree with Pygmy. No need for the premium bullets to kill deer. I had used the premium stuff for years and didn't see any difference in killing performance over the cheaper stuff I started off with on deer years ago. The premium stuff can cost up to 3 times as much over the standard loads and in my opinion they aren't worth it for deer sized game.
