I think it's a good thing that mentors are not allowed to carry weapons during this youth hunt. The most interesting part of this thread for me is how so many hunters DON'T know the rules, nor do they bother to read up on them. I bet scores of mentors have taken kids out hunting during this youth hunt and carried weapons themselves. Of course most will never get caught since DEC officers are rarer than mountain lions.

That would disqualify just about every member of this forum. The two that wouldn't fart in the bunk room, fart at the eating table, so that isn't much to look forward to either.
-
Hose never resist, but I know many hunters can't either. LOL
-
Yeah, do you think if these bucks strolled over to someone else's property, the other hunter would have worried about letting these bucks pass on their DNA?? No way. The guys killing these deer made the absolute correct decision to kill them when they saw them. Let them walk and you may never see them again.

Maybe it's none of my business, but was there any way to continue to keep this place in the family? Like you buying it, or paying the upkeep and taxes on it if your father couldn't? Some things should never get sold, only passed down to the next generation.

The picture posted above is only a tanker train. Any train wreck pictures posted here depicting the threads on this forum need to be of a passenger train with human bodies and parts scattered all around. Things around here usually end up a bloody mess after all! LOL

I know exactly where you are, Biz, I'll see you there on opening morning of the gun season! So nice of you to let me hunt with you guys!!

I reckon Papist is the J. Edgar Hoover of the HuntingNY forum. LOL

I must have missed that post, please direct me to it! LOL

I wouldn't disagree with you on this, but you have absolutely NO problem bashing any non-hunter or non-gun owner who may not exactly agree with your philosophy either. So what's the difference really? You automatically discount them as being stupid, naive and un-american, so how much does that elevate you above the caveman status? Not much. We know you well enough around here that it's either your way or the highway, so if you can't sit down and at least listen to other sides point of view, and have a civil discussion with them, then you are no better than anyone else I am sorry to say.

I would think the majority of college students go to college to get an education. Toting a gun is not on the top of their list of must things to do while on campus. Most don't have the mindset like some of you do here where a gun solves all the worlds problems. None of us will ever know if there was anyone carrying close to this incident. Even if there was, it obviously didn't help matters here.
-
Maybe you should pull your head out of somewhere? Read the laws of that state. The college prohibits firearms with the exception of those that are permitted to carry by law. http://johnrlott.blogspot.com/2012/12/a-partial-list-of-206-college-campuses.html?m=1

Concealed carry is allowed on Oregon campuses, so it is not a gun-free zone like some of you claim. Look it up for yourselves,
-
Yeah, sort of didn't want to bring up that part.

Covering the bases for you here Culver. I have some buddies in 8G that had a hell of a morning this morning. Three dandies as you can see in the picture. The big one on the left was gut shot at 83 yards by my buddy Wilbur with his bow and then the buck ran off towards my other buddy Jethro where he put him down at 583 yards with his 8th shot from his .300 Remington Ultra Magnum across several corn fields. Wilbur was a bit pissed at Jethro for claiming that buck, but it all ended well when Jethro promised to give Wilbur his wifes buck tag to use during the gun season.

I'll be damned if I remember who it was. Maybe it was him, I don't know. All I know it was funnier than hell!! Must have felt like a girl getting all sexy and naked in front of you and then she runs away never to be seen again. LOL

Is Verizon anti-hunting?
steve863 replied to adkhunter71's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I've heard it called hunting porn or horn porn, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "hornography". I kind of like it actually. Sounds even more dirty and horny. LOL -
How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?
steve863 replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I will definitely agree with you that it's only a deer. One main reason I come to this site is to see how fanatical many people are over hunting, deer, antlers, guns, etc. I often give people some $#!+ about it, too, as you probably know. I find it all quite amusing to say the least, since I do mighty little preparation and yet I've had only one deerless season since 1987. So from my view, a lot less time can be devoted to all this and one can still be successful. The rest of our time we can devote to living and as you say, to some "real priorities in life". By the way I am the 28th top poster here, one below Wooly, and nowhere near the top 10. You had me nervous there for a second. I think I'd have myself psychologically evaluated if I was ever in the top 5 or 10 around here. LOL That would definitely be an indication to a REAL problem. LOL -
How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?

Now that one is real funny. Hell, you guys are the ones planting food plots, setting out cameras, putting up countless treestands, planning this and planning that LONG before the season comes around and you are telling others that it's just a deer and to look at real priorities. Hell, I pick up my gun and strap my boots on and hunting I go. No planning, No stands, cameras, food plots, you name it. So to which one of us is it really "just a deer"? -
The funniest one was a couple of years back when someone said "i'm going to have some backstrap tonight!" while posting from his stand and then never found the deer. My reply was that he could have this for dinner instead. His usual. LOL

How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?
steve863 replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I'm glad someone else asked him that question. LOL -
Are there any houses on any of those small parcels around your 2 small parcels down near the road? It almost looks like a string of properties that would have houses built on them. What about those roads that seem to end in a circle near your 20 acre parcel? Are there structures built there?

He wants the target immobilized at a distance such as 1500 yards. A shot in the arm, leg or ass from a high powered rifle will put a human down. Tell me if a shot like that will put a deer or elk down? No need for a reply, thank you.
-
No, you are the ignorant one. For an army sniper at 1500 yards, it probably don't matter if he clips someone in the arm, leg or some other spot that would be a non-lethal hit on an animal. All he has to do is connect somewhere. Big difference and bad example on your part.
-
Everyone can obviously choose to do what they want, but I have as much faith in ANYONE attempting to kill a deer at 50 yards or more with a bow, as I do someone attempting a 500+ yard shot with a rifle. I don't give a crap how much you practice either. Sure, you can connect on that Hail Mary shot, but I'd almost guarantee you'll screw up on at least 7 out of every 10 attempts. Way too many things that could go haywire with shots like that. If you do make a kill, you better thank Jesus (and Mary) for it, because there most likely was way more divine intervention at play than any shooting skills you think you have.
