  1. Any caliber good for deer is good enough for black bear. Unless you simply want another rifle I don't think a new one needs to be purchased just for this one hunt.
  2. I don't think Rand Paul has any beef here, whatsoever. Presidents have many times used military actions without congressional approval. A declaration of war needs congressional approval, but not a military action like the one last night.
  3. The Trump supporters will be in for a mighty big wake up call very shortly. It's funny to see how some of them are already irate over Trump launching the missiles at Assad last night. Some are starting to feel that Trump isn't exactly keeping his word, which in my opinion will only get worse. Politicians are liars, and Trump is definitely NOT the run of the mill politician, but he is no less a first class liar and always has been. Just wait and see if Bannon and Priebus are indeed sent packing. Anyone notice how his son-in-law Kushner is becoming more influential in his administration by the day? And Kushner is in NO conservative by any stretch of the imagination neither. Time will tell, but PT Barnum aka Donald Trump may have suckered a quite a few people on his way to the presidency! I realize there wasn't much of an option with Hillary, but don't say that you haven't been warned!
  4. Someone doing or making something with antlers is a far cry from really caring whether they shoot a trophy sized deer or not. Even native Americans and anyone else who hunted thru the ages made items like buttons and utensils out of antler bone. Did these people really aim to shoot a deer with the biggest antlers when they went out to hunt?? No way. All they cared about was putting a deer down for food. Anything else that the deer provided like skins and bone was also used. Why would they waste it? There are still people hunting today with the same philosophy. This surely doesn't make them "trophy" hunters or obsessed with antlers like some of you others seem to be just because they might use antlers for various purposes.
  5. You will need a manicure and pedicure. Biz gets them all the time, so he can give you pointers on where to get this done in the big apple. Teeth are always a problem for you upstate fellas. That's why Biz always smiles on the pics he posts of himself. He wants to show off to you upstate boys who have dental deficiencies.
  6. What I don't understand is why some group like the NRA or other NYS or NYC pro-gun group hasn't taken such BS to court to test the constitutionality of such nonsense? When everyone else can take their stinking pistols from one area of the state to another, or even out of state, why are NYC handgun owners restricted to keeping them ONLY within the 5 boroughs? You practically can't even take it out of your house for crying out loud without a special pass! Why would anyone even go thru the process of getting a pistol permit in the city if you are barely allowed to pull it of your safe to clean it? Makes absolutely NO sense to me that no one has taken this BS to court. Obviously if no one is to challenge the bastards who run the city, they will keep adding more an more restrictions on gun owners to the point where NO one will be allowed to own anything more deadly than a paperclip. I realize that there are relatively few gun owners in the city in comparison to the total population, but when more and more places are passing legislation to loosen gun laws, why isn't NYC's feet being put to the fire? The NRA most especially is supposed to be this great defender of EVERYONE'S 2nd amendment rights, but in my view they have completely dropped the ball with NYC gun owners.
  7. Always fascinating around here how people pick and choose what they want to read and believe. Like I said, it will be interesting to see how these trips pan out and if he continues to go down there just about every weekend. But if he does he will surpass Obama's tab awfully quick. Probably in less than a year compared to Obama's 8 years. http://fortune.com/2017/02/22/trump-security-mar-a-lago-cost-taxpayers/
  8. What about the flights to Florida every weekend? So far it seems like he goes down each and every weekend. Say what you want about Obama, Bush, Clinton, the last few presidents, but I don't remember them flying off somewhere every weekend just to get away from the White House. These trips have got to be costing millions upon millions. Time will tell how this all pans out. And what's up with Donald and Melania? I can understand her wanting to be in NYC until the boy finishes up the school year, but it sure looks to me like their relationship is as cold as Lake Erie in January. Hell, they look less in love than Bill and Hillary. Maybe they are still together just for show? Maybe she's getting too old for the Donald and he wants someone younger again?
  9. It didn't have a built in calculator neither. Notice the left big toe of the little girl next to her sticking up. That was the extra toe/finger Grow needed to figure out the math problem the teacher just gave them. It also appears that there is a boy with his head down on the desk in the very last row behind the other four boys. I think that's Pygmy taking his nap.
  10. Attached is a photo of the game warden when he attended grammar school. He's the big boy with his legs crossed. I guess we shouldn't expect much from the poor devil. The other kids in the photo are all forum members here. That's Growie in the first row with the note pad.
  11. I've had so many opportunities to buy old guns over the years, but never cared to buy any. Just never made sense to waste my time with them. Even if I could have sold them for $200 to $300 more than I paid for them it surely wouldn't have been worth the time looking for a buyer and taking the time to show them the guns, etc. And like Lawdwaz said these days you need to go to a FFL for the transfer which will kill another couple of hours at least. I am not a dirt rich guy, but killing a couple of days to make a lousy $200 is not something I am interested in doing. To each their own.
  12. To each their own, but to me it seems a bit premature to buy a 4 year old a lifetime hunting license. We need to remember that not everyone grows up to be a hunter, even those who grew up in a hunting family. You just can't force it on anyone. If they show interest in it when they are of hunting age then by all means buy it for them then, even if it cost more then. I am also quite reluctant to give the state of NY any of my money in advance for something like hunting privileges that are 10 years or more down the road. Hell, this state would prefer we didn't own any guns at all, so why am I to believe that my kid will be allowed to own a gun or hunt years down the road? I'm far from convinced thus they ain't getting any of my money at this point.
  13. Any model 700 made since the early 80's does not need the safety to be moved to the fire position to open the bolt. Just want to point this out. For the ones made before then you did need to put it in the fire position.
  14. Oh man, I don't know who's BS'ing more here. The guys who claim that their 700's fire by themselves or your post here?? You consider it an advantage owning a .30-06 because it could fire off a .270 round in a pinch? I honestly don't even know if you could get a .270 Win to chamber into a .30-06 rifle? I think the neck of a .270 is slightly longer. I never tried it, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to give it a try or even consider that as an advantage to owning a .30-06. Dude, I'm sort of glad you DON'T own a 700 because from what I've read here you sound like a good candidate to have it fire by "itself".
  15. There have been lawsuits against Remington well before they sold to Freedom Group about these triggers. I have no way of proving if these triggers are truly defective or not (I've surely never had an issue with my 700's), but I know that many of the accidents that did occur would NOT have occurred if the shooter practiced safe gun handling. Check out the latest 60 minutes report that was aired about a month or so ago (Maybe you'll find it on youtube?). A young kid shot and killed his brother with a M700 in their living room. He even went to jail for it. The kids father found out about the trigger issues and now he's suing Remington. The two brothers apparently had a squabble and one of the brothers got the rifle out and loaded it just to scare his brother. Boom, the gun went off and his brother is dead! If I were a judge I'd throw that suit right out the window. Defective trigger or not, you load ANY gun and point it at someone YOU are responsible if the gun goes off, case closed!
  16. Absolutely agree, and I'm NOT kidding. I hear guys saying that they COULD of shot deer if they wanted to but decided not to for one reason or another. I can't understand that kind of philosophy. In many cases these hunters are full of it and probably not telling you the whole story of how they couldn't get the job done. Until you've put at least a dozen or two deer on the ground, you are far from an experienced hunter in my opinion. No, it's not all about killing but until you've proven that you can put deer on the ground you are not going to get many hunters who have put deer on the ground buying your tales about passing up deer because they were too small, it was a rainy day, you forgot your drag rope, etc., etc. Until it's hanging from the meat pole we ain't going to be believing your tall tales!! Sorry.
  17. Believe me, that is NOT how most employers are thinking these days. If you are 50 plus you are pretty much old news to them, an old dog that can't be taught new tricks, and that is NOT what they want. They want someone younger who they can take advantage of like they couldn't with an older, more wiser individual. If you are 50 or older you will be pretty lucky if you find another job that is equal to the good one you lost.
  18. A story needs to be "factual" to discredit someone?? You guys believed the story that Hillary beat the crap out of Podesta after she lost the election, how the hell do you know that was "factual"?? Did he have a black eye when he talked to the crowd that night? Honestly, you guys need to stop and listen to the crap that comes out of your mouths. You accuse the other side of believing stuff that isn't factual, when the reality is that you guys do the same $#!+. I've said it before, the extremists on the left AND the right deserve each other. They are both as ignorant as one can get.
  19. Oh, there will be plenty of people who will get surprised. Talk about someone who has been a waffler on just about every topic, it's been Trump. Even the gun issue is far from a sure bet with him. I've long predicted that it would be a republican president who would sign the first significant gun control measures in this country. The republican majority senate and congress of course didn't want to pass any new laws with a democratic president in office just for the sake of not going along with him. Now that a republican is in there the game will change. Lets just have another couple of high profile massacres with firearms and you'll see what will happen. If you think republicans politicians aren't afraid to get shot by some loon with an AR I've got some news for you. Trump is exactly the type of guy who would help make it happen since he says one thing today and will say something else next month. Buckle up boys, you may regret what you wished for.
  20. Yes, I would prefer to give them less of my money also. I could probably pay less taxes if I moved to another state. But I would also have probably made considerably less money than I have living in this state all these years, and the opportunities in finding another job in my field if I happened to lose the one I had would have been considerably diminished also. So there are drawbacks and you lose some and you gain elsewhere. You'll never have everything and shouldn't think you ever will or that someone else will be so nice and hand it to you.
  21. Yeah, they don't hear what comes out of their mouths. Granted there wasn't street demonstrations and people climbing lamp posts like you are seeing today from these clowns on the left, but 8 years ago when Obama won (and forever since) many on the right have been regurgitating that it was the end of our country as we knew it. Guess what? 8 years later we now have Trump so things go in cycles in this world. Just because Trump won this time doesn't mean that a far left-winger could rise up 4 or 8 years from now and get into office. The problem with the paranoids on both the right and the left is that they somehow think that a president or political party will save them from doom and gloom. That is BS. One makes their own bed in this world and whether you will be successful and prosper is up to the individual. If you work hard you will prosper, if you are a lazy butthole you won't, it's as simple as that. Those who think that a president or political party will somehow make life better for them are all actually the same whether they are on the right or left of the spectrum. They both have the same ideology that someone else will make life better for them, which will NEVER happen. You either make your own life better or NO one else will.
  22. LOL. Maybe he could hang one of those little musical mobiles that people put on cribs from the mountain lions fangs? LOL
  23. I think a lot of hunters are probably like you. From my perspective, though, I surely wouldn't build additions to the house or move into a bigger house just to have space for hunting trophies. That would honestly be silly. You may not grow tired of them, but I can assure you that most anyone else who visits you(unless they are a hunter who also drools over such things) won't be too impressed with hunting trophies on the wall, even if they are B&C animals. Even some family members who live in the house may care less about any of them. So for me it doesn't make sense going out of my way to display something that only I will really care to LOOK at. I rather spend money to make the house more comfortable for one and all in other ways. My take on this anyway. You can surely do whatever you want.
  24. With all the windows and doors on those sheds, I don't think you will have much wall space to hang too much on. That's the problem with trophies, you need a lot of wall space. After one has kids, most mounts end up in the basement or somewhere where they are out of the way. Family should come first. Plus, in all honesty I've sort of got tired looking at my dust collecting mounts. I don't regret having them done, but not like they are too important to me anymore either.
  25. Hillary's wardrobe definitely comes from the Chairman Mao fashion collection, I'll give you that much.
