  1. This in no way is going to encourage hunters to "Do their part"...in fact its going to put less hunters in the field during the early season chasing does and MORE hunters during the antlered period chasing the same bucks.... What they should have done especially on L.I. is that you would have had to kill 2 does before you recieve a buck tag..that would have equaled more hunter participation and more does taken out of the population. Plus on the managed lands we need to be allowed to get into the woods earlier and stay out later during prime times...and of course not allowing crossbows is just rediculous...Its THE most logical deer trimming tool for the Island..
  2. With all the talk about excessive deer on Long Island and sharpshooters and nueturing,etc....The DEC comes up with a way to LESSEN hunter participation.....unbelievable....
  3. I started waterfowling at a young age and that is my first true love. Then I got into turkey hunting and I have to say spring turkey hunting is my absolute favorite type of hunting.Deer hunting with the bow is creeping up there.....
  4. Nice variety of game up behind the cabin...
  5. I've got the Summit Goliath....once u practice using your climber you'll ask yourself why didnt I use this sooner?..Make sure u attach a pullup rope to it.. Good luck
  6. Same game plan as always...try to work less and hunt more!!!!
  7. Yes its mine....its efficient and a fun way to prepare a pig...Makes a great presentation to a big crowd of hungry people!
  8. We just had a 50th birthday party for my wife at the house this past weekend..We did the crawfish boil with taters, sausage and home made cornbread on the side PLUS a 40lb pig in the roasting box....Not a scrap of pig leftover!!..we had the crawfish shipped from La...same place ,,,in the styro box....Awesome...Them bugs were huge and tasty!
  9. Well supposedly they tally up the reported harvests and factor in..non reports..predation,etc..and come up with a number. In my honest opinion poaching is the biggest factor in turkey populations not weather, predators or anything else. Plus due to TV shows, magazines and internet everyone is a turkey hunter..lots of pressure
  10. I can highly recommend the Orendaga Cabins in Northville on Northville Lake. Nice people...quiet and very clean...they have a website www.orendaga.com
  11. I like to hunt...I like to eat what I kill...But I really like to hunt whether I'm eating it or skinning it and saving the pelt..I dont tresspass or poach and never forced anyone to hunt with me against their will..I like to hunt with all types of implements..guns,bows,crossbows,,etc...I like hunting alone and also with my family and friends.Do I REALLY HAVE to explain why I hunt to anyone? Did Mike Tyson have to explain why he wanted to be a fighter?. does anybody ask Michael Jordan why he played basketball?..Why do some guys really like golf?..My dad plays golf...I have many good friends that golf..I dont see the appeall...but I dont try to stop them or ask them why they like it.... I guess I get a certain thrill from being in the outdoors and chasing game that I really cant and really dont feel the need to explain..
  12. I use the Rage Cage quiver...Already got the loop attached!
  13. We have been told by DEC that the 3 blade are not legal in NY. As far as the attractants (powders, blocks etc) anything containing salt or a salt derivitative or a type of food.. ..anything that can be consumed by deer ...all that stuff is also not legal but sold for hunters venturing outside of NY to states where it is legal. Pretty sure the reason they want the blades to retract is because in case of a bad hit the arrow can work itself out where a barbed point is in for good..
  14. Anyone have feedback on these new trail cams that send pics to your cellphone / computer? I have Verizon..and get great reception up in my new place in Spencer. Its 4 1/2 hours away. One or two of these cams could be very beneficial to my scouting program. I've heard good things about Spypoint...But very pricey even for me who could get them wholesale as I am a sporting goods dealer..Any other brands that are Verizon compatible that has a good record? I would appreciate all replys...
  15. My season started off great in March in Alabama killing a nice bird on my second day of hunting. Took a new kid who helps around the shop for his first hunt in April for the Long Island youth day (my first time turkey hunting L.I.as well) had a bird roosted on public land only to have hunters sneak in from opposite property and spook off the bird so no luck there. Had a good morning in Chemung Co. on May 2nd calling in a nice 2 yr old from across a 150 yd open field with bird strutting all the way in that my son killed at 35 yds all recorded on his head mounted Go-Pro 7:20 am.Inserted the url for the video no zoom so bird looks further than it actually was...awesome hunt...First turkey hunt on video for us I've been at it ever since to fill my own tag with a few close calls.. but this last week out in 3 days of hunting hearing only 2 gobbles total....very discouraging and must get back to work..time to let all the scratches and mosquito bites heal up and get back to normal life..I'm done another season in the books Sometimes I'm glad its only 4 weeks and finally comes to an end... some of you more afflicted know what I mean.. already getting the deer stands ready for fall.. https://youtu.be/N4K0QcS573A
  16. They were ripping it up pretty good to owls calling in my woods this spring.!
  17. I have the the camo case for the thermacell with the little belt clip used for attaching to a tree while on stand. I keep it clipped to the strap on my turkey vest. Its always there when I need it plus it holds extra butane cartridges and mats.
  18. This is my point exactly...Most if not all LEO's would be left with no choice but to enforce a SAFE act violation if it was found along with another charge...but its not like theyre knocking down doors and dragging away your guns. AGAIN I'm NOT agreeing with the safe act at all just trying to educate the public that for whatever reason a LEO visits your home (domestic dispute, dog barking, pissing in your backyard..whatever) or you get pulled over for a traffic viloation you would be at risk for a SAFE act enforcement if your firearms are visible.
  19. Dont want to be the spoiler here and trust me I'm in the business so I'm certainly not in favor of the SAFE act but....... Had a guy in the store the other day...real nice guy...Him and his son chose not to register their guns...Son is moving out of the house to his own apt...While driving he gets pulled over...Hmmm..guns in the car?..what ya got?...humm sir?... Long story short this man has to now hire a lawyer as his son got arrested for having an unregistered assault rifle in his possession! (its a .22 GSG!) ..young kid facing felony charges that will follow him for life... Hope Andy and his cronies are happy Sucks..
  20. what about this one?..Shot it this spring in Alabama, Came in strutting with 8 hens...weighed 20.5lbs Full fan...short beard....Superjake or stunted gobbler?
  21. I have to agree with Wolc123...If you dont have written permission to be somewhere then you DONT BELONG there. I hate seeing all those posted signs on the trees and its almost becomes YOUR fault if a poacher is found on your property and its not posted..As far as teaching kids right and wrong....MANY are taught how to road hunt....tresspass....spotlight deer...take whats not yours, steal game cams.break into houses that are vacant for the season etc...In certain areas this is just how it is....Again if it aint yours dont mess with it!! The poaching laws will never be stiff enough to stop poaching all together but its a step in the right direction.
