  1. I was laid off in May. The company was $2M over-budget on a huge construction project. Unfortunately, people that had nothing to do with the company's piss poor planning had to pay the price! For those of you that have a job, be thankful! I just applied for my 100th job, but still no luck! So frustrating and depressing!!! It gets old, tailoring cover letters for each job and company and filling out applications for each and every job, even though my resume and LinkedIn profile has much more info than their application! I search multiple job hunting sites, multiple times each day. I sort through 1000+ jobs daily. This goes on 7 days/week and there's days that I spend 10+hrs/day searching for work. I've spoken to HR Managers and recruiters and they have told me how competitive it is out there right now with so many people looking for work. An HR manager for a local company said that the first day they posted a job, they had 119 applicants!! Others have said that they had to pull postings, because they were flooded with applications! Others have said that they can't believe that they've had applicants with MS degrees applying for jobs paying $12/hr, just to get work! I was steadily employed for 30 years, so this was quite a culture shock to me, as to how much job hunting has changed! I've done EVERYTHING I can think of!! I've been looking for jobs within 50 miles from home (Rochester to Syracuse to Ithaca). Had my resume professionally done and LinkedIn profile polished up. I've been told that I would probably never get calls from some jobs that I've applied for because I'm over qualified. I just had a "group interview" for a position making ~50% less than I'm accustomed to making, but I got bills to pay, so I'll do it if I get the opportunity... Any suggestions from those that have gone through this recently and found jobs?
  2. I hate downloading videos, but I did it! LOL Great looking bucks!
  3. My camp is an old rustic log cabin, build from logs taken on the property. Loved spending time there and if I wasn't there, I was thinking about being there... Always had Cabin Fever!
  4. You're providing a great service! I hope everyone appreciates you and Luna! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  5. Absolutely dead out here... Thought after that front moved in last night and cooled things off and rained, they would have been moving this morning. Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  6. But isn't that the "plan" ALL the time?? Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way! You hear "excuses" all the time in perfect weather such as the deer jumped the string, the arrow hit an unseen twig and deflected, the deer took a step just as I shot, etc... for making a poor shot. Bad shots happen! No one plans on them. They can happen at any time. It really sucks when it happens when tracking conditions are at their worst.
  7. Another great video! I look forward to seeing Downwind Outdoors videos every year! Thanks for posting! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  8. How far did he go John? Sounds like you had you had your hands full with that tracking job!? Warm day, so I bet time was of the essence to find him and get him in the cooler!
  9. Now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing or hearing any yet this year. My property is close to Lake Ontario and usually see and/or hear thousands by now.
  10. Came across an interesting site while looking for ways to preserve and recipes. http://www.kitchenfrau.com/puffball-recipes/ There was a recipe for using a slice of puffball as a low carb / gluten free pizza crust! Figured WTH and tried it! I like mushrooms on my pizza anyways! It was a great alternative! It was suggested to precook the puffball slice to get some of the water out, then add pizza toppings, and put into the oven. Delicious! I'm gonna go out and try to find 1-2 more to slice and put in the freezer, just for using as pizza crust! I also read it was good alternative for French toast. Thought that was weird.... but, of course I had to try it! LOL I poured some maple syrup on it and it did have the same texture and flavor as French toast! Would definitely pass in my book!
  11. When I brought it home, my wife's eye's about popped out of her head! She asked me what it was... I told her it was an "egg that I found in the woods"! Her jaw dropped! Then, I had to bust out laughing!
  12. Had another big plate of it for dinner tonight! DE-LISH!!! Have you ever preserved it? I would like to use one to try in the stock and soup that I make in the winter.
  13. That's cool! Congrats! You're gonna have your hands full!
  14. Congrats wooly and dalo!! Sounds like an awesome memorable hunt and scoring on birds was just a bonus! I'm sure this is just the beginning of some more great hunts for the duo!
  15. Brings back memories and making me smile of when my daughter first started tagging along with me while bowhunting. At first, I wasn't sure how she would feel about me shooting a doe or fawn. Our first time out, 2 fawns walked up to within 15 yards of us and I had no desire to shoot either of them. All I kept hearing was her whispering, "Shoot 'em Dad.... Shoot 'em!" I got giggling so hard at her, then she started! I got laughing so hard that couldn't draw my bow back! Those two dumb fawns just stood there staring at us the whole time though! Enjoy your daddy-daughter times in the field with her!
  16. Dead in 8F... Not even a squirrel yet! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  17. Had almost half of it for lunch! LOL. I dredged it in egg, coated it with Italian breadcrumbs and some parmesan cheese, and fried in butter. Delicious!!! I'll polish the rest off tomorrow. Didn't want to eat too much, incase I found out I was allergic to it or something. (Allergic to morels) So far, so good! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  18. Hi Jdubs. Glad you found the forum. Jump right in! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
  19. Can't help you with that. If it doesn't work, I might have an alternative... I was given a Whitetail'R PhoneRead'R last year and love it! http://www.basspro.com/WhitetailR-PhoneREADR-for-Android/product/2216345/ So convenient to scroll through the pics (and videos) on my phone while at camp and decide if I want to move cams or to see what areas are getting action, to help decide what stands I might want to hunt that day. It's gotten a couple of bad reviews on the BassPro site, but I've never had a problem with it.
  20. Always wanted to try a puffball. I was eyeing one all morning from my stand, so I grabbed it on my way out. Starting look to look for recipes. What do they taste like? How do you cook them?
