  1. im thinking it might be a little bigger maybe 300-350. it looks to be farther back than the deer in the pic. but the only way to find out is to get it on the ground. dont call me if you do. ive had my fill of bear gut jobs. Stinky...
  2. i find a statement that a guy made to me before i was kicked of the property i hunted for 6 years to be kinda funny. it goes along with what G-Man said. he told me that last year when i started putting my cameras out and scouting that all the deer movement changed. i just said yeah that was late sept. it happens every year. he then tells me that nobody saw any deer because of it.. i laughed and said i saw deer every time i was in stand. which is basically true. but anyways his poor hunting and scouting skills cost me a great hunting area. i have a feeling if i hadnt shot the buck i have on my wall now. i would be still hunting there. Sorry just had to vent a little.
  3. What a monster.. Hope to see you holding that rack in a few weeks. Good luck
  4. So today im in a local sporting goods store and as im browsing around a few guys were getting their hunting licenses. When it came time for them to select what WMU they wanted, they seemed to go for the ones with high chances of selection. I really wouldnt have noticed if the clerk behind the counter wasn't coaching them as to which ones to go for. this to me just doesnt make sense. im assuming that these guys didnt care where they got tags for as long as they got them.. Im pretty sure the DEC does studies on this stuff to determine what area gets what amount of tags it needs to keep a healthy herd. kinda defeats the purpose of the study if people are just tagging doe with any DMP regardless of area...
  5. The Biggest 2 i have taken. the 8 point was taken in 2007 and the 10 was last year. both using archery tackle.
  6. I shot a buck in a field last year with a 2 blade rage.. I could see the spray from about 150yards. If there was snow on the ground I'm sure it would have looked just like that.
  7. I agree biggame that's the worst. That and the dreaded tickle in your throat that wont go away with out a load cough.
  8. That's funny you said you" settled" on probably the best bow out right now. Sweet bow man.
  9. Bullzeye is a great shop. Rich is a very knowledgable and helpful guy. He has the best range around. I also heard that Travis "T-bone" Turner from the bone collectors is going to be there.
  10. I'm going to try a new arrow set up this year my self. I think I'm going to try the Beman speed or the Easton flatline's 340s with 2" rayzr feather to help with the weight forward. According to the owner of a local bow shop it should be a very accurate hunting arrow with a 100 gr broad head. and get the most performance out of my Alpha max. I'll post the crony results when I get them done
  11. By the sounds of it this taxidermist splits his tannery shipments into 4 deliveries. one early bow season, one at the end of bow. and the same with gun.. as far as the head looking a little off i think it is the form itself not the taxidermist. looking at the Mckenzie catalog the mounts look the same.
  12. yeah i agree Geno. im not really crazy about the face shape. under the jaw is to square and the top of the nose should have the "roman" shape to it. but i guess theres nothing i can do about it now.. I guess ill know for this years mounter lol. optimism at its best..
  13. I got my mount back on sunday. here are a few pics. i had it mounted on a McKenzie 8000 series semi up right. This years is the one on the left
  14. very nice. that is a monster 3 1/2 yr old. must have great genetics. congrats
  15. Congrats, great job keeping at it. i also had a pretty slow start. but like you said it only takes 15 min and its all over...
  16. great story... those are the experiences that keep you going back. thats for sure... good luck.
  17. thanks everyone. i think our eyeball score was a little high. we taped it today and came up with 125 on the dot gross. 121 3/8 net. so after it drys it might just make NY big buck club. non the less its goin on my wall.. heres another pic from it hanging in the garage.

  19. After my hunting vacation last week and only seeing doe and a few small 1- 2 year old bucks. I was feeling pretty discouraged. But you cant get them from the couch... So today with the wind blowing at 20 mph i figured i would haul a** out of work and try to hit the blind i set up on Saturday in the field i had been scouting. I know its not really much of a story but i got out of work at 3:30 was in the blind by 4:00 by 4:20 i see 3 doe making there way into the field on the same trail i had been seeing them take. about 4:25 i see another doe bolt from the woods with this 10 point close in heel his nose to the ground. lucky for me she lead him with in 30 yards. when i pulled up my bow my stabilizer rubbed against the window flap and stopped him dead in his tracks. Bad move for him. I took the shot. It hit its mark perfect. he ran to the edge of the field about 50 yds. And started his dance of death. by 4:30 i was a proud NY hunter... Man i love this sport.....
  20. i agree WNY i had a nice buck come in on sat. right on the heals of a doe. and tonight i shot a monster 10 point seeking doe. pics in another thread... i think right now is the time to be in the woods soon they will be locked down and seem to dissapear.

So today with the wind blowing at 20 mph i figured i would haul a** out of work and try to hit the blind i set up on saturday in the field i had been scouting. well luck has it that this fella was bird doggin some does right into 30 yards. and the rage did its job. he was down within 50 yards. We did a rough score and were thinking high 130s... What do you guys think?
  22. I use rage 2 blades 100 gr. . I was thinking about trying the NAP Blood Runners has anyone used them yet?
  23. The first thing i have to ask is. are you shooting a 2" vane? If so, you can sometimes get head stear out of a fixed blade head with 2" vanes. I would suggest a 3"-4" vane for fixed blades. As far as tuning i have never had to change anything once tuned with field point. Given there the same grain. It might sound remedial but i dont know your experience with archery.... Just my experience
  24. Which plot do you find them to hit the most?
  25. sweet pics. good luck bagging that guy.
