    Eclipse

I was in the path of totality for an eclipse in 2017 - it was definitely not 100% dark, but very dusk-like. Birds quit chirping, night-time insects started making their noises, etc. It was a cool experience.
  2. I'd think not - no hair / tissue remnants and too much discoloration (green) to be from this year, IMO.
  3. I run a bunch of cameras in the fall (25 or so) but only keep 2 of them out all year. Those 2 cameras are cell cameras that are strategically placed to monitor my property for trespassers, etc. So more of a security use case in the off-season.
  4. Appears so to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The muscle mass decreases just as rapidly as it increased before and during the rut due to swings in testosterone production, I would think. I'm not a biologist, though - this is just an (un)educated guess.
  6. Totally agree - I can't do that, either. But there are certainly those that can - maybe fewer and fewer as time goes on, but they are still out there. I have a neighbor to the south of one of the properties I hunt that does just that.
  7. I think lack of access to hunting ground is one of the biggest issues for the future of hunting. Several folks here have already taken new hunters out with them, but for that to persist and expand, that new hunter needs to take new hunters as well. Eventually that original landowner’s property would get overcrowded, thus the need for more access. I think some tax incentive for landowners to open up their ground for hunting, like is done in several other states, might be a way to help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Do you happen to have a link to this? I'm always looking for better ways to sharpen my knives, etc. I've been using the KME sharpening system for the past several years. https://grizzlystik.com/grizzlystik-sharpening-kit-from-kme-sharpeners.html
  9. Is that a recently passed law as mentioned above? Does anyone have a link to it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Since when? The September 2023 law mentioned above? I wasn’t aware of this - guess I need to educate myself on it! I’ve previously had muzzleloaders shipped directly to my door, but that was several years back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Why do you think it was shed -vs- broke off? My son found an antler this past weekend with part of the skull attached to it. It's amazing what kind of force these deer can endure to literally snap off a piece of their skull and then move around seemingly like nothing has happened. Unfortunately, this deer is likely going to die from a brain abscess unless someone is able to take him before the end of season.
  12. Dang - there’s a very reasonably priced parcel that I am interested in purchasing, but there is no legal access. There is public land on the north side, so I could access through there, but that would be a heck of a hike. The current owner hasn’t been to the property in several decades, so access was not important to him. I guess I’ll have to do some cold calling to adjacent landowners to gauge their appetite for an easement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Going to be tough surviving the winter in that condition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. That permit is to allow hunters "with a permanent physical disability (verified by a licensed physician) to use a crossbow equipped with a breath-tube apparatus for releasing the bowstring".
  15. I assume he bought it online from a private individual online and not an FFL? Terrible that it happened. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I have 7 Spartan cell cameras for sale - they are all Blackout models on the Verizon network. I’m looking to get $110 face to face / $125 shipped for each camera or $700 fave to face / $750 shipped for the whole lot. Face to face cash sale or electronic payment preferred - Venmo or PayPal, will consider other payment methods. I live in the Syracuse area. I have these listed on multiple forums but will honor the earliest time stamp for any PMs that are sent my way. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! 17. How big of a property are you looking for?
  18. Do your cathedral ceilings have ceiling fans by chance? Having that will help circulate that hot air back down to ground level. I've used something like this (not this exact one) in the past to move heat from my coal stove to another area of the house; it worked pretty well overall: https://www.amazon.com/Blades-Heat-Powered-Stove-Fan/dp/B07ZKDJMFJ/ref=asc_df_B07ZKDJMFJ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=385309235643&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2531962703046623205&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005171&hvtargid=pla-844529193522&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=75980285662&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=385309235643&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2531962703046623205&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005171&hvtargid=pla-844529193522
  19. Having recently started my two oldest boys on firearms for deer, I'd consider going with something with a bit lighter recoil. My second oldest really struggled with a 20 gauge pump and felt that the .270 wasn't much better in the recoil department. Both are comfortable shooing a .243, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 7mm-08. I also have a .257 Weatherby that my oldest shoots well but my second oldest isn't too comfortable with. That being said, maybe your son isn't nearly as recoil sensitive as my boys are. I "read" their reactions to trying various firearms and, erring on the side of caution, backed them way down to prevent bad habits from forming.
  20. Is a muzzleloader considered a firearm now? Last I knew, you could still buy one and have it shipped to your home … but the last time I bought one was pre-2013. The “lock up” implications wolc mentioned got me thinking … Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
