I do, for protection, backup, etc. Rifle/shotgun always primary though
-
Danny is right, normally the bigger the caliber the heavier the gun you want just to offset the kick a bit
-
Nice buck, let him eat :-)
-
+1 on what Buck said, play the wind...its cheaper too :-)
-
Awesome work as always Dave, I love the 3 Amigos...:-)

With my .45 LC, absolutely NOTHING !!! LOL
-
It should be legal everywhere, but "The People's Republic of NY" thinks it knows better. Like someone said before, better safe than dead
-
.45 Long Colt :-) Seriously, I go light if 1-2 miles from the truck, backback with all the above if longer hike....plus foxpro, extra water and a toilet paper, then I'm all set ...:-)

No I haven't but if you are telling me you have bruisers like that I will there in no time :-) BTW, when do you apply for a town tags on LI (January season) is it already too late?
-
I don't know fellaz, I'm far from being an expert on deer, but this guy looks a bit "farmish" to me...just saying....
-
good job on not shooting so close to the houses. all you need is a bad shot and a deer dying on someone's front lawn...LOL Do more scouting and yes, get there way before light....the season is long be patient
-
I have seen doe responding to short low calls, too loud and too long and they are gone.....just my experience
-
best thing is to try, just don't overcall, start low and short calls.....10-15 secs and listen and watch....
-

bkln replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
I understand your need to be social and I'm fine with that. Personally I think you over-dramatizing the situation and I would suggest to worry about something you CAN control...:-) Any reasonable person would shoot before the season that's just common sense. Who cares what douchebags do...LOL -
09/15/12 - CT Bowhunt Opening Day In at 6:30 out by noon In again at 3:00 PM out by O'dark hundred (7PM) Morning session was empty, well almost....:-) I called in a human being to my FoxPro with Whitetail in distress...LOL. Got a good shooting lane on him and everything but I'm tagged out for Humans :-) So, it was NO GO.... In the afternoon I saw nothing and I spooked a pair of does on the way out. Then started still hunting and spotted a large doe staring at me so I froze and didn't move a muscle for a while. After she was done checking me out and was cool with me there she was moving propendicular to me at the slow pace. I used a large tree that was between us as my advantage, while I was blocked by that tree I could safely get my arrow and place it in my Matthews Bow. Then it hit me, my release was already in my pocket, "screw it" I thought, I will shoot with my fingers....The doe kept moving left slowly, I have no shooting lane whatsoever but a great one is coming if she just keeps going...she does...My mind is racing: "how far is it?" Hmm, 30-35 yards methinks....cool, she is now in my view...I drew and hold...stabilized and let it go...pufff...way too low and a bit far back. Now, she is just super pissed, she didn't run away or anything just got scared and turned around. Started hissing/puffing and shit, stomping like crazy, yeah...You know what's comes next...She is gone to another county with a high jumps... In hindsight, I'm actually glad that I didn't hit her, it was 20 min before legal light and it was a long shot, if I hit her It would be probably a gut shot since it was way too far and low, then again I would be probably still looking for her.Well, so here you have it, I got my practice shot and some good time in the woods, there is always tomorrow (not actually since CT does not hunt on Sundays) but you know what I mean. Its good to be back hunting....
