I haven't seen one yet in eastern Dutchess but there are some in the West Mountain area. Friend of mine got it on camera after it run through their garbage. The fact that DEC extended bear season last year to the east of Hudson should be enough evidence that they are here. Good, no need to drive up north to Adirondacks anymore :-)

I haven't got a deer with them yet, just got 100 of them few weeks back. So, this season is a smooth bore all the way. In Europe they don't have rifled shotguns so this is what they shoot for years now. Give it a try like I did, oh they are affordable too... :-)

...and looking for an advice from you older and smarter folks :-) First off, I have a hard time to find a straight answer what the hunting season is: " it is regulated by federal law blah blah..." OK I get it I need a duck stamp and HIP and I have one...where do I actually get the dates? No word on DEC website that I can find. Do you get HIP # once or every year? I know duck stamp is annual. Now, the rules: you can't shoot the birds while under power of a motor, but you can recover one under power of motor. What if you have a chance to shoot after you start the motor and maybe spook some other birds? Or is this another rule like: "if the tree falls in the woods....you know the rest..."? Now, after the shot: what do you guys do? Do you dress it like a small game or deer or you can drop it off as is to your processor of choice (where is that in Dutchess county anyway :-)?) And the last one, what's the deal with 3 shots shotgun? Can I just load 3 shots in my 6 shots gun and still be compliant...? Thanks for your help fellows. Mark

OK, here is mine sob story, I'm 3 years in and no deer to be shot. Well, OK first year I didn't really hunt deer just a small game, the second year I got too late for a bow season, and a third year was the best I missed deer 3 days in a row cause I was shaking like a leaf...LOL. Anyway, I got the bug and I will never quit. I love this sport, I have one regret...Why I didn't start earlier...:-)
