  1. Temps are dropping fast too. Might head out for magic hour at 5:30
  2. It's raining hard now in 9H. Anyone seeing anything b4 I don my gear and head into the storm?
  3. Staying out of the woods till Saturday. No point blowing up the woods when the weather is like this.
  4. You can use some brush and downed limbs to brush in around the base or weave into the stand structure.
  5. If the stand is somewhat hidden ( I like hemlocks) and brushed in a bit, you should be fine. I did one or 2 last minute stand changes this season, with a view to moving them again if the patterns change, and have dad deer around me the next morning. Just don't put it smack in the center of a travel corridor or trail. Hang it in the rain if you can.
  6. Unavoidable late start for me this morning. I really wanted to get the morning sit in due to the weather changes. Hows it lookin out there?
  7. funny.. i did the same. found a series of large rubs heading into thick stuff
  8. I use a relatively expensive synthetic oil and generally buy better grade filters when doing my own changes at home. I want it done right. Comes in about 40 bucks, all told.
  9. I would simply say that no guns are in my possession .
  10. So, that's technically 5 Bucks I have passed on as of this morning. I say technically, because about 7:15 am, a spiker came in and entertained me for almost an hour, munching acorns and rubbing up a sapling with his tiny rack. He came in to about 6 yards, where he got downwind of me and started to sniff that something was up. He spooked a bit but stayed around for another 20 minutes. This speaks to efficacy of food sources like Oak, keeping deer around long enough for multiple shot opportunities. At least I had some action this am. Wasn't expecting much as it was already warm at 5:30 this morning. Going to have a coffee and breakfast sandwich then sit till 2. It's already very warm out there however.
  11. https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1350364
  12. You may have thyroid issues too. I have been using small doses by Greater Phara to kick start my metabolism and raise temps. I am definitely running a little hotter these days. If the internal engine is running cold, no glove will help.
  13. Plus it's warming up fast this morning. Another bad sign. Tuesday looks good for temps.
  14. The Universe has spoken. I approached my stand late, at 8am this morning only to jump two deer munching on the oaks around my new set-up. Their body shape suggested Bucks but I couldn't see the front ends. Experience has taught me that the best strategy after such a start is to turn around, put the coffee back on and give yourself and the woods a break. No more for me today. Two hard days of hunting coming up tomorrow anyhow...
  15. The NICS info is not destroyed. If you bought an AR at some past point, they know already. Whether you had a terrible boating accident however, is another matter...
  16. Lazy morning so far. Couldn't face 6am in the stand. Headin out after a slow coffee.
  17. And I doubt people have any more time than usual this year to put in the extra hours to play catch-up, if indeed they are waiting for Bucks first.
  18. Rattled in a Buzzard a little while back. He swooped in low and came to rest on a branch. Pretty cool. In for the day now. Too darn hot
  19. In for coffee now. Heard some really weird growls on a ridge above me about 6am . Never heard the likes before. Went on for some time too. Edit: OK, watched some youtube vids of Bucks growling. Looks like it may have been the Big 10 Buck. Never heard 'em growl before. Very deep, drawn out, chesty growly sounds. Not like the usual grunts.
  20. New evidence of the Big 10 and his morning route came to light. He seems to be passing through a stand of 4 mature Oak. Large fresh poops around. It is just over the property line, but I have permission from the owner of the other land, so I moved a stand into this area while it rained today This weekend I will hunt this stand exclusivity, even though I know I have near guaranteed action elsewhere. Comin for ya Big 10!
  21. My scent control this year consists of a shower, my gear aired out on the balcony and this year I did get some scent away spray. I have had 4 Bucks under my stand so far. The only time I was spotted, was when I carried my scent drag rag into the tree with me. Otherwise the deer have remained clueless. I do sometimes simply grab my bow and head straight out after work without too much fuss.I have had Bucks come to my stand from downwind also without any reaction, this season.
