Installed new trigger spring on my Savage Axis

I will also trim down the factory spring to take off a couple of pounds. This way I have two for one! -
Installed new trigger spring on my Savage Axis
The_Field_Ager replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
So I installed the new spring. It is a lot less robust than the factory spring, which accounts for the lower poundage. At first I was a bit dubious given how much smaller (in terms of the spring diameter) the new spring is. It looked kinda flimsy compared to the thicker factory spring. Anyway, install was quick n easy and the trigger pull feels a lot nicer now. No trigger play at all which was my main concern. Have not shot the rifle yet. Might get out later if the rain holds off. -

Got my spring. No rush to install it just yet. -
Unusually quiet this morning. No gobbles at all. Hear one distant shot. Saw a lone bird run past my decoys without blinking about 7:30. Came back for coffee. Might have another look in a bit.

And Michael Moore is now calling for the disarmament of all police and the release of all non violent criminals. I think he took a national suicidal pill. No doubt his own body guards get to keep their guns mind. -

Got out a bit too late. Cat woke me up about 6:15. The Turkey were gobbling but henned up in the top field already. No getting them to cross the property line and back into my woods at this point. Came back for coffee. Will hit the woods early tomorrow. I think the warm morning shut down the gobbling early today as well. That , or the few birds around are already taken. Did hear 1 shot.

Doesn't matter. Only the white ones are guilty. Statistically cops kill more whites than black folk. Why is the killing of whitey not newsworthy? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/apr/21/police-kill-more-whites-than-blacks-but-minority-d/?page=all -
Another lovely morning. It seemed I had 3 birds around me this morning. Two close enough to get gobbles from. Neighbor was back near the boundary scratching an awful noise out of his slate call. No eyes on a bird this morning. Very cautious.

One of Buffalo's radio jocks was talking about this, how local businesses couldn't even get people to apply for advertised work. Welfare is obviously far too comfortable. -

Played dueling banjos with a neighbor who decided to camp on the property line ( shooting in). Always fun. Nether of us managed to coax in the Tom who was responding. I saw that the turkey had in fact managed to circumnavigate us both, heading deeper into my woods. I almost managed to head them off and get into an ambush position , but I was made at the last second. Fun morning. Great weather, annoying neighbors.

Saw one decent bird yesterday. Usually we are surrounded by gobbling but this year and last, things have gotten quiet. I will be out there in the am tomorrow, but unless a stellar bird comes in, I may give the turkey a total pass this year. Spend the season on trespasser patrol instead. Almost as much fun.

Are deer spooked by Trail Cams ?
The_Field_Ager replied to fasteddie's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
So your alternative for me phade to is to take 100 yard pot shots through dense foliage. Let me think about that for a minute....... mmmm....nah. No thanks. -
Are deer spooked by Trail Cams ?
The_Field_Ager replied to fasteddie's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Problem here for bow hunters. I need to put my stand 30 yards or closer to the deer trails. This means finding them with cameras to ensure the frequency of travel is worth the effort to get a stand in to this relatively tight corridor of activity. In our woods the deer use and stick to pretty tight corridors. Not much spreading out seems to occur in terms of movement patterns. Finding a travel route with a cam or 2, and then putting a stand 100 yards off makes little sense. -
Exactly. If you want a sustainable deer population for the purposes of hunting ( a commercial and perennial activity) , that provides quality deer, at good numbers, year in and out, you will need to manage that situation to some degree or other. Letting nature takes it's course would likely bring deer numbers down to the lower levels of colonial times. Man's influence, in terms of clearing land and creating variance in the terrain and habitat, has had a positive impact, from the hunters perspective. I have seen a lot of old-timey hunters writing into NY outdoor news talking about the continued decline in deer over the years. A future that includes harsher winters will only exacerbate this. The decline in farming in the state will also contribute no doubt. If it hasn't already.
