Biggest buck I've ever gotten on camera

nice buck, is he in velvet , hard to tell -
I bought the Winchester Archery Stallion crossbow from the new Cabelas store that just opened in Cheektowaga NY.There are very few reviews available for this bow, but they all are positive. The bow has a lifetime warranty not the 5 years like other crossbows. . The fit and finish is top notch , no shoddy craftsmanship here. Set up is straight forward , just a few allen head screws and your ready to shoot. The FFP scope has a lighted reticle with red and green cross hairs . Bright and easy to see through, solidly mounted on a picatinny rail. The stock is solid constuction , wild camo pattern and a cheek piece for easy scope alignment . After shooting about 10 bolts , I was tack driving out to 40 yds ,Zero the scope at 20 yds and use the appropraite crosshair and you are right on out to 50 yds. This is a top quality crossbow, comparable or better to most top end crossbows on the market . Lifetime warranty, high quality construction, smooth, quiet shooting, fantastic quality scope , you won't be dissapointed .

young buck with a skin problem??????
ididnotvoteforobama replied to ididnotvoteforobama's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I could go for some extra steaks and roasts , but he has a few years to go before he ends up in my freezer. So i would assume the the deer is edible, not the warts though -
I have been watching this young buck for a few weeks now and am wondering what the spots are ? Harmful to the deer ? bug Bites? Let me know what you think. Mark

I have been waiting for New York to finally approve the use of crossbows , so now its here . I will be buying a new crossbow this year and soon. I have almost $400 IN Cabelas points , so it will be from them. The three that I like are the Barnett Ghost 410 , Barnett Vengeance and the Excaliber Matrix 355. All 3 are different in their own way ,as far as design and function. I like the Ghost for its speed and quality reputation, the Vengeance for it smaller ,compact design , reverse draw feature , and the Excaliber line for its simplicity . The Excaliber looks like its out due to 200 lb draw weight max , but lets hear from actual users of these x bows and other recommendations. I 'm looking to spend around $700 to $900

I have always known it as Skunk cabbage, although the leaves look like Lady Slipper , I have never seen any flowers at all throughout the year. Deer do not use this as a food source, that I know of. My creek beds are full of this and no animal touches it.

Never too early to get out , enjoy.

I have hunted Allegany state park for 35 years and have seen and taken many large bucks. Your right you need to get back in away from the road hunters. The past few years , the number of deer that I saw has been few and far between, I still hunt during wet or snowy conditions and sit when noisy. The park is in need of some thinning , which will never happen, to help to improve the habitat . I think the Saturday opener is causing hunters to only hunt a few days , then you aren't allowed to hunt on Sunday. Most hunters leave sat evening and then the remaining few usually leave by Wednesday. In a nut shell the hunting has been lousy due to the lack of hunters , then throw in a warm opening day and everybody sits.and nobody moves the deer. There are many big deer , but you need to put in your time. Also ,as the hunters get older , they won't walk in as far, not see many deer and get discouraged. No 4 wheelers, no rifles , or handgun hunting, 3 shells with a plug , no Sunday hunting, no bear hunting , the park is over managed and over regulated . Desperately in need of Timber stand management. I'll be back next year for opening week as usual.

We the people............... Desert Tactical has refused an arms deal with Pakistan for a total of $15 million. They feel the guns would fall in to the wrong hands and be used against our troops. Wait .............this sounds familiar . Anybody remember Fast and Furious , when guns where allowed to be sold and illegally transported into Mexico , to supply the drug lords. Border patrol agent , Brian Terry was killed by a gun that was traced to the Fast and Furious gun sale. Eric Holder, this death is on your shoulders , and of course he has been able to side step, with his song and dance routine to refuse to testify as to what really happened. Along with the rest of the whining liberals , Coumo, Pelosi, Reid,Holder, Shummer , GillIbrand AND THE LIST GOES ON . Lets support Desert Tactical for their decision to help to keep America and our troops safe. Repeal NY Safe..........................................

You need to read this issue , you will be surprised . After reading this issue , I have devised my plan to improve my hunting on my 175 acres. Over the past 12 yrs , I have watched my property, degrade to the point , that this past season was the worst since I have owned it. I always kept a journal of the date, time , weather conditions ,treestand hunted, deer activity, bucks ,does , coyotes sighted etc. My conclusion is , that when I bought this property , it had just been selectively logged and 2 years after the logging , my hunting and deer sightings were 10 times better than they were this past season. Then the 200 acre property adjoining mine was logged . Now the deer sightings really dropped off , the deer had all the browse they needed and didn't frequent my property much. Then other properties around me were logged , guess where the deer went then. Read the magazine and formulate your plan for next year.

Today I read an article in the march 2014 issue of Deer and Deer Hunter magazine . It answers a lot of the questions that have been raised about the lack of deer being sighted the over past seasons . It talks about the hunter attitude over the years and the lack of interest , lack of new hunters. It really sums up the reasons for the bad past seasons. Also a good article on the effect of the moon phases on deer activity , backed up by many studies over the years. A very good article on deer management, habitat management, deer density etc. This issue is one of the most informative magazines that I have read in a long time , well worth the price to buy it off the magazine counter. It may be available online , but I have not looked into it , yet.

Today was the last day I could hunt this year. Headed to a friends farm this morning only to find 3 plus feet of snow on the ground. I knew they got a ton of snow , but being my last day, I had to try. Well after an hour , to try and get the 4 wheelers through the snow and out the 400 yards to the woods, We had to give up after only moving 50 yds. We were drenched in sweat and exhausted, trying to walk the 50 yards back to the barn to get the tractor, took 15 min. We finally got the 4 wheelers back to the barn and called it quits. I hunted 65 days of a 78 day season , over 550 man hours and only 2 doe to show for it . Well this caps off the way the whole season has been for me, not seeing many deer and no decent bucks during daylight , the big boys are still showing up on my cameras after dark , so now I look towards next season. More and larger food plots , new stand locations and new camera locations. I'm allmost glad to see it end , but I'm sure in a few days I'll feel different.

ididnotvoteforobama replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I'm going with 1/3 clover for all year forage , 1/3 soybeans for early, mid , and late season drawing power, 1/3 brassicas, sugar beets and turnips for late season drawing power and recovery after the rut -
Small , stature ,Definetly bipedal , human or ape like, my best guess is midget Big Foot

My 2013 big hunting season SUCKED!
ididnotvoteforobama replied to outdoorjay's topic in Deer Hunting
Outdoorjay, I hear what your saying . My season was just a little more productive. I hunted 62 days so far this season. This Sunday will be the last day of this season and all I have to show is a small doe that was wounded by a slob hunter who didn't bother to follow up af he shot. I have 175 acres to hunt on and another 300 surrounding me which I have permission to hunt. So my problem is not access . My cameras show a few impressive bucks and a small number of does, all moving at night. My area is way over hunted and I believe the poaching around me is rampant by the local Amish. Nobody can tell me that at 630 am there are gun shots, then all day , and it got worse the week before gun season with snow on the ground . At times there were more shots than opening day of gun season. With that being said , i have drawn up a plan to help improve next years hunt. More food plots , TSI, more comfortable stands etc. If you increase your seat time, you increase your odds. Don't fall into the trap do do illegal things , just to get that meat into the freezer, your better than all the slobs out there. Set your sights on next year and change up your hunting times, etc. Hopefully next year is better, its you against the deer, this year the deer won. -
Any luck with TSI ?

Any luck with TSI ?
ididnotvoteforobama replied to dhuntley2's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
My property was selective logged about 12 years ago . Half the property one year then the other half the next year .I have 175 acres so there is room for food plots and the logging took care of the tsi. Heres mypoint, 2 years after the logging , the number of deer was easily 10 times what it is now. Predation seeems to be about the same , but the number of quality bucks has dropped off dramtically over the last 5 years. The heavily timbered area where so thick , you could not walk through , only in winter. This past year , was the worst hunting ever , the thick areas are dying off due to overstory growth which eliminates the browse cover. Its time for some TSI to create these areas again, I've been building my log home ,so I didn't put in the time into keeping up with the tsi . I will this year , so I can improve my hunting . Bottom line, TSI is the cheapest form of improvement to improve your hunting. -
Wow , cool , I'll have to remember that.

New laser pointing broad head from Spot-On . . .
ididnotvoteforobama replied to Deerthug's topic in Bow Hunting
Check out their website , only $49.99 per broadhead . Combine it with a high end arrow and your throwing about $65 per shot . I'll have to give up shooting squirrels
