  1. You are right his face is awfully grey and his snout is pretty long. Huh.
  2. Go with the Venture... I know a guy who worked for T/C so I am biased.
  3. If I saw "lol" come across the screen there is no telling what would happen to Dick. That's asking for a fight.
  4. damn grow. hope you feel better. loading up on the NSAIDs I imagine.
  5. What a waste. They recovered the second deer spoiled the next day, wearing tee shirts. Absolutely stupid and unethical to take that shot.
  6. My mother contracted lymes sometime between 1988-1990. She went from being a true super mom to practically bed-ridden. You can see in the family albums the change in her, the family and the state of the house. Nobody understood what was going on. It ruined the family, not just her. Doctors had no clue. She figured it out and pressed for a Lymes test, and they more or less laughed at her. The first test came back negative and she pressed for the second. Sure enough, positive. They IV treated her and at the time I was in 5th grade, she had first gotten sick when I was barely in school. They had no clue how to treat it and didn't do it properly. Needless to say she still struggles every day, many days can't even get out of bed. 25 years of suffering due to a tick. Nuts. Nothing to fool around with. I always check and still find a few here and there. At least they treat me before the test even comes back with all the false negatives.
  7. I shot my buck this year and his tail was between his legs and every now and again it would rapidly twitch back and forth. He never ran just walked until he dropped less than 40 yards, double lunged. I read about 1.5 inches of rain falling and deer search found scent with no trouble at all. I bet he is down and can be recovered. Don't give up and don't beat yourself up until you have exhausted every option.
  8. so basically a place where all the trash gets washed into.
  9. Maybe he just doesn't know about carbon arrows, and has only seen aluminum. Some fool (be it a poacher, legitimate hunter, or kids) is going to make a bad name for hunters. And that deer will suffer, whether or not it recovers, although I think it will, it sounds like a no vitals were struck. Call the DEC, cops, animal control, and get pictures! If the OP is a ANTI or a legitimate concerned citizen we shouldn't call witch and burn him at the stake without proof.... Now I am thinking Monty Python jokes.
  10. Belo, not much different than before: some people seem like the deer would vaporize if the ARs were passed, some say they have had enough of the gov't, some argue herd management and herd benefits. Some post links to facts about benefits of ARs. Same song and dance. I've learned a lot from this thread actually.
  11. Doc, I agree, it would be awfully pathetic if someone gave him any grief at all. I have never joked about friends spikes, I have shot them as well. Well if they are skippers then I'll say "well that's no Bambi, it's his little brother" or something in good fun! I really don't care if it passes. I argue the point it is trying to make, the good that could come from it, and that it is not like the deer would vaporize and you would never see one again. You'd see more after a few years. I live on the Vermont border, and their two on one side rule has helped tremendously in portions of the state. In fact the guys I know who were against the ARs now want it to go to 3 on one side. I work in Vermont and have seen the change. I want my fellow hunters to be more successful, and that's the point I argue. I will keep on congratulating my friends on their spikes, 3's, and 4's and never shame them on any kill.
  12. Congrats! Good job regrouping from the miss.
  13. Government has gotten WAAYYYYYYYY out of hand you are correct on that. My buddy falls into the category where he wants to shoot bigger deer but he may not see them so if he does see a small buck he shoots it out of fear that if he passes it up the next guy will shoot it. If people get locked into the scenario that you stated we will have more of the same. The law would benefit those that don't pass up deer out of fear.
  14. Now if it was to pass that would be my one true beef with it. Elderly folks and the young person not being able to take that buck. My first deer was a spike. I got it opening morning in a spot my brother told me to sit when I was 16. One of my finest memories. It was a good confidence booster. But other than that I think most people will be able to tell if it has 3 on one side quickly enough.
  15. poop skittles? geez where do you hunt candyland?
  16. I personally think it is fine for people to harvest spikes and forks if it suits them. but it cuts down on the chances for a everyone, including people who get spikes and forks, to get a older or heavier deer. I personally don't know anyone that wouldn't mind get a bigger deer.
  17. in many cases but not all. i know a guy who got a 165# mutant scrub rack about the size of a spike.i would shoot him over a 150 lb. 8 pt. don't lump everyone into that category.
  18. I admit it 3 on one side seems like a double standard. i see it just as a line on what i do and don't harvest based on what others may in fact pass up as well. example: i shot a 1.5 yr old that fit my 3 on one side rule. it was my first bow deer. i know anyone else who hunts that property would have promptly filled their tag with him. I have gone years wothout getting a buck. i was talking to a guy has trail cams and he said that the 8pt i got was the only 1.5 yr old with 3 on one side out of many scrub bucks. twin threes, spikes, and a handfull of 4's. and actually the only 8pt at all. so there are 6 or more other bucks that would have gotten a pass from me anyway. 1 out of 6 bucks if i had seen i would have let walk as a first bow buck. i figured why not take the 8pt, i'm sure he wouldn't have been passed up. if it was rifle or i was a more experienced bow hunter OR i was in an area where i know others would have let him go, then yes i would have given him a pass. a 1.5 is 110-120#s and i've shot 2.5 at 150. one more year you get a bigger deer with more meat. i would much rather take 2.5s and 3.5's. if the first two years of AR's would be slow so be it, the next 50 years would make up for it.
  19. 1939 was 75 years ago. things have changes just a little bit. and the fact that the record hasn't been broken since then speaks volumes that something is out of whack.
