  1. I haven't used an agent too much but they can be worth it if you don't know where to start and depending on the $$$ involved. I don't know where your experience level is at for booking trips..... But I would suggest blindly emailing 100 outfitters makes it harder to narrow down a hunt. I don't mean that unkind, just that it can be information overload. First you want to know what kind of experience you want, and then find an outfitter that fits the bill; ie horseback/wall tent back woods; lodge with day excusions, sit over crop fields, glass and stalk, still hunt, open terrain/timber. Nothing worse than planning a hunt, but getting there to find out you drive around some logging roads shooting from the truck, when you thought you would be on a horse in the mountains.<<<this happens more than you think>>> Then you should understand relative trophy quality for an area and what that score means. In addition have an idea of what your expectations are for that animal. Muleys can have different mass and spread for general areas based on genetics, food and water, prior weather years in an area. Areas of drought or excessive winter kill, high harvest rates etc can make some areas more attractive than others. easy to show your best kills for a brochure, but how many like them big ones do you get every year? I've only done one Muledeer hunt, but have booked well over a dozen guided/semi guided hunts for the past several years. I try to set the parameters of what I'm looking for and then find a short list of outfitters to choose from that can give me a decent hunt with those ideas in mind. For example; High desert, glass(spot) and stalk, New Mexico, landowner tag, unguided, but lodge supported....... High desert in general= lighter mass Open terrain to glass and plan a stalk in Land owner= better than average chance for a deer Lodge supported= hot shower and good meal+bed; map for area; drop off and pick up Expectations for me were 4x4 typical, expected scores 145-170,24-26" spread (even with the ears or a little outside;30" for example is well past for spread) I like open country glass and stalk hunting. Because I was unguided this hunt was about half of a typical guided hunt including my airfare. This deer was 4x4 25" and green scored 159......about mid average for the area.Taken 3rd day of the 5 day season; 1st season. terrain; cleaned up a bit;
  2. Lots of credit is due to my uncle, he is very experienced and coached me along on a few projects. One of his off shoots of the hobby is producing surgical instruments in Obsidian for a med school and practices in Ohio.
  3. Obsidian with warthog tusk handle (tusk from Namibia) Nice job on the points!
  4. Mississippi is a good example.....started with AR's, they shot them up and ended up high grading. Now they have modified the program to beam length(as Texas in areas also) and now waiting for new results over the next few years. Ah; more sophistication....... and 7 pages to go......
  5. Often "theories" can get more sophisticated and be expanded or eventually proven wrong. The concept that some folks are allergic to peanuts is a good theory. Feed them peanuts= get sick.It's repeatable and can be reproduced independent of other causes of the reaction. The concept of treatment however has changed. The theory is good, but needs to be expanded to include further explanation. Einstein had a static universe theory, had all kinds of equations to back it up and his famous relativity theory helped with the cause. He was dead wrong as Hubble (the guy they named the telescope for) generated different observations, providing proof for Einsteins blunder and he conceded his gaff. Although there are still those who use his model....... Ah, where will AR's fit in.....hypothesis gone awry, or theory borne out in tangible results?
  6. Actually it was hypothesized it was flat, and faulty thinking was proved wrong. The concept of theory is that it can be independently proven..... Folks use the word "theory" incorrect all the time when they should be saying I have a hypothesis......
  7. Never hunted bears up there but sure have seen alot fishing; Good luck!
  8. Mule deer is landowner..... I bought a tag last year and did a DYI hunt on a ranch(took a nice 4x4). I have been offered another this year; not sure if I'm going to take it. Going to wait on elk results; he may sell them by then, but thems the chances ya' take. Same outfitter who buy's those deer tags, does Elk in Unit 34; Cloudcroft area. He does well on shot opportunity, scores are around 310-340. Although we did see some bigger bulls when scouting around after my deer hunt this last fall, one he thought was 400. Hunts out of his place/bunk house; no horses/tents etc.; I applied for bow. Rolling pine hill terrain basically around his place where he lives year round. The Muley ranch he runs cattle on and is South of him near Pinon; areas 29+30; high desert. Pretty country out that way. I have a deposit for a hunt in Namibia in exchange for some work I did for an outfitter there...use at my descretion. Just need some trophy fee money and a plane ticket. 3 years ago I did a trip for 2 to South Africa in a free ranging area; all one needed was $1200 for airfare for a weeks hunting; trophy fees included for 3 animals each......went alone as I could not find anyone to come up with the time+ plane ticket money. : 2012's plans hinge on work for this year; a bit slow in the carpenter business right now; hope things pick up a bit this summer.
  9. Both hunts sound like fun; good luck. Maybe back to New Mexico for another Muley hunt; put in for an Elk tag and see if I draw that first and if I can get a deal on a landowner tag. If neither of those; I'll see if a late cancellation/left over hunt comes up for something interesting. Doing New Zealand or Namibia in 2012.
  10. No....the article is tounge-in-cheek..... Sure is easy to get folks all riled up.....just say something about what they shoot.Read some of the comments below;funny stuff when they take themselves serious, one guy asked for research : , what a bunch of dopes.
  11. Bravo J'ai chassé les Pyrénées pour les Chamois, vous avez un beau pays. I asked if he hunted with dogs or driven hunt....as you see he used dogs. And told him he has a beautiful country, and I have hunted the Pyrennes (between Spain and France) for Chamois......
  12. Bonjour, c'est un gros cochon. Avez-vous chasser avec des chiens ou en battue?
  13. Agreed; did you try 24 hr campfire? bunch of NULA support there; and you could put a link in customs and wildcats to the classified; they don't seem to mind there.
  14. Thats a very fair price, and a hec of an offer! Wish that NULA was right handed and you'd hold it!
  15. White House to Push Gun Control Obama intentionally did not mention gun control in his State of the Union, but aides say that in the next two weeks the administration will unveil a campaign to get Congress to toughen existing laws. At the beginning of his State of the Union address, President Obama tipped his hat to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who’s now recuperating in a Houston medical facility. But throughout the hourlong speech, he never addressed the issue at the core of the Giffords tragedy—gun control—and what lawmakers would, or should, do to reform American firearm-access laws. That was intentional, according to the White House. An administration official says Obama didn’t mention guns in his speech because of the omnipresent controversy surrounding the Second Amendment and gun control. Tuesday’s speech was designed to be more about the economy and how, as Obama repeated nine times, the U.S. could “win the future.” But in the next two weeks, the White House will unveil a new gun-control effort in which it will urge Congress to strengthen current laws, which now allow some mentally unstable people, such as alleged Arizona shooter Jared Loughner, to obtain certain assault weapons, in some cases without even a background check. 20. This what you were after?...... A Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist who was badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened. The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.. I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scum bag who got what he deserved. and he yelled back that Barack Obama is a lying, good-for-nothing, left wing Commie who isn't even an American. So I said that Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian! He retaliated by yelling, "Oh yeah? Well, so does Nancy Pelosi!" "And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us."
  21. Heres one for $7 that has notches to snap to length, this company sells all the parts for Browning and you could get OEM if you what. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1232/Product/_FITS_ALL__SHOTGUN_MAGAZINE_PLUG
  22. Yes, when I did my bow(5 years ago?) the instructor offered an oral exam and a few did this. I would think a phone call to the instructor would not be a problem.
