Yes every manufacturer has a plastic plug that takes just a few minutes to install.... According to Browning you should have one in your kit when purchased;(every shotty I have always has had one in the box, my Beretta had it installed) All have been plastic IME, click on "description"; magazine capacity http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=011b

Big Game/Small Game Hunting License Fee Increase
Dinsdale replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
Point is money stream is complex and its too complex for a simple money in monry out equation. There was a windfall of Pittman monies due to increased gun sales at last election; just like lifetime sales before restructuring age. -
Big Game/Small Game Hunting License Fee Increase

Are you saying they should not get a raise? Trying this from a phone, hope it works..... No....political appointed idiots should have done a contract years ago because it was their job. All they did was keep delaying and posturing. -
Big Game/Small Game Hunting License Fee Increase
Dinsdale replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
Problem with DEC funding is the sources are mixed and accounting is difficult. Pittman-Robertson Money; license fees, life time sales, general fund...... Right now the DEC Officers are working with out a contract and have been for several years. When they do get one, it will be retroactive for several years pay and benefit increases in lump sum distribution......where will those millions come from? -
If you are interested in an example of this, here is a site that keeps tabs via satellite of a marked group of Caribou in the George and Leaf river herds of Quebec. Several animals carry markers and a population estimate can be extracted based on their movements comparing recorded past data......It was working so good they turn off the "live" feed during hunting season, so outfitters couldnot use the info for unfair advantage. (game management relies on certain percentages of un-filled tags) http://www.mrn.gouv.qc.ca/english/wildlife/maps-caribou/index.jsp

Sorry...not my intent to start yet another thread on AR's and such.... I will ask mods to please move these posts to that thread. Thank You.

Anyone want to start a pool for when that "AR-what are your thoughts" thread hits 100 pages? Date and time...... What should a prize be?

No....you have a 24 hr window, no permit required. Scroll down the page to each state with regs; http://www.nraila.org/gunlaws/federal/read.aspx?id=59 Handguns are another matter and that can get sticky; there was a recent ruling on this were a traveller in NJ was hosed over by police; you can read here.... http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8121043/m/5581071841 I have transited JFK with both(long gun and handgun), and when checking a handgun there had no issues with local police who also check the gun case in addition to TSA. But I am very discreet and try my best to keep the situation low-key. So far and several trips later I have had no problems, and do not expect any.

And.....Thanks for the links!

This is why Mississippi and parts of Texas have beam measurements and sometimes combined with pt restrictions for QDM. But Pt. restrictions are easier to implement for hunters as its easier to field judge. Much of this gets tied in with soil types and limiting potential that needs to be tailored to individual areas.....one size does not fit all;something that seems laking in hunters understanding when discussing AR's and QDM on both sides of the arguments.

Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show 2011
Dinsdale replied to gundeck's topic in NY Hunting Calendar / Events
There was a short thread some where else for this....Chit-chat maybe? Going for sure....don't know the day will play the weather, maybe Monday. Booking fishing trip and maybe something else, not sure. -
Thanks..... A few things I learned along the way.... I first was getting steel scraps at a junk yard. Most were some funky alloys and welding 2 dissimilar metals of unknown origin is tough when your starting out. I never cleaned enough and had all kinds of inclusions in my welds that looked like crap and kill the weld strength. A good prep saves time and rod! I still struggle with verticle and that takes more practice than I give it. A real welder? ....is a damn good artist. I'll stick to wood
-
So.....were the shots farther, the deer faster, and the racks grow bigger by the minute?
-
I took an Adult Ed course at BOCES that was good. Had an instructor that concentrated on actually welding. Mention it because a friend took one in another county and they mostly talked about welding but did little. By the time the classes were over I built a folk-lift attachment for my skid steer.(still have it with no failures. LOL) I ended up with a stick to do farm type stuff myself and a few projects for the shop. Its cheap to use and does structural stuff well(tubing, angles,bar stock, heavy plate). Doesn't do sheetmetal well, not built for it. Wire machines for the small shop market were just coming on the scene so I can't give a good comparison. I will say stick requires a bit of practice, good prep work to clean surfaces, and some "feel" for amperage and rod choice. Heres a gate project done with 1/8" wall 2" square tubing frame; I do stuff that mainly supports my wood shop. I'm no pro, I'm sure there must be a few here to chime in;

This is not necessarily true...... Some of the best taxidermists can and do in-house tanning that is on par with commercial dry or wet tans. Tanning time has nothing to do with quality of putting together the mount. Most commercial tanning turn around time with taxidermists is based on waiting to send in multiple skins on the taxidermist end and then the tanning company doing a batch at once on their end. Some taxidermists send in multiple batches and other wait to the end of the season, and that changes the return schedual. In addition you can pay to have a cape expedited through tanning (usually at 2x the standard price) at commercial tanneries. Turn around is often a few weeks. I will however state that there are folks who use what are considered dry preservatives that are not true tanning. These mounts can last 20 years but moisture from the air can degrade them sometimes. These mounts are often at the lower price range due to the lesser amount of time they take to apply and they reduce turn around time. Are you a Taxidermist? If so, i have a question that I would like to PM to ya. Sent you a PM..... No I am not a pro taxidermist. I am however involved with several as a supplier; and I have a working relationship with a few tanneries for my own skins (hunting and cattle) and others from the cattle industry. I have also assisted in the taxidermy of some of my own mounts from skinning to paint with a good friend who is a pro, and have been "exposed" to the industry a bit more than most hunters.

I did mine in Dutchess about 2 years ago.... Unless things have changed they only grant full conceal carry anyway; which covers you for all. Don't hesitate to call the office there as they are most helpful for any questions to get all your paperwork together.

Mike try reposting this also down the board a bit in the region 3 threads. Some there who don't post on HVS, but are in the area.
