  1. Just have him buy a Blaser....then he still has one gun and can just add a few barrels when he's hooked....can even share a few scopes between them. You didn't say what a budget is<<<<grinning back at ya>>>>
  2. Oh....and I'd top it with a QR Talley rings with 2 scopes.... A VXIII Leupold 2.5-8x32....nice light low profile for general hunting..... And find a nice used Swaro PV 3-12x50 with a TDS reticle for playing sniper at targets and varmints..... All done in one gun.
  3. 30-06 snooze fest.... How about something sexier.....6.5x55 in a CZ 550 Full stock Shoots 140 gr bullets....proven popular Moose caliber in Europe. Same BC as a 06 and similar max point blank range giving up just 25 yds or so at 260yds to the 06's mid 280's shooting 150 gr rounds. Just thinking outside the box for you;<)
  4. 28ga with #6 pheasant loads worked good this fall....first one with the 28. Didn't get a shot this spring but will try again!
  5. Actually its fine for every other forum....and everything else, its just this forum package thats an issue. I can live with it...I just don't visit if I'm doing anything else. Tried chrome and it was terrible, not going down that road again. Thanks for reply.
  6. I have similar issues running Windows IE8 and a relative slow dsl....if I have everything else closed its not too bad, but sometimes I freeze right up if i have another window open. Can I change anything on my personal settings?
  7. Good stuff!
  8. Listen to the guys on HVS...... Everyone is telling you the same thing. Be patient....
  9. That ton of deer feed and corn really can get some meat on the bone..... How many bags do you carry at a time to your stand? That range wagon you have doubles good for that. If you buy bulk you can use a wheelbarrow......so I've been told. Who's your buddy Larry?
  10. I just have computer privileges for an hour a day if I behave myself.
  11. Is this a hoax? Looks photoshopped to me. Just sayin'
  12. Watch your speed if you see a trooper with someone stopped. They have been running a operation were they get a speeder and then anyone that blows by the stopped cars.....favorite spot is Taconic southbound between 199 and Bullshead overpass......(they also like that stretch No. bound too for speeders) The town of Milan likes the court fees too....I'm local to there.
  13. Remington Wingmaster 12 ga. Magnum> 2 3/4 and 3" shells. 3 chokes> extended modified and Improved and factory flush modified (and a wrench). Vent rib original barrel. $300...... I'm the second owner and know the first....well cared for and decent wood with original finish. Checkering is VG no dings, few use marks on stock. Bluing is good usual wear on mag tube and a little freckling on top/scratches typical to use; light enough hard to show in pics. I have my eye on a 22-250 and if one comes in>>>>one goes out. I'm in the mid hudson valley. Drivers license copy required or shipping to your FFL....
  14. Hmmmm....never ate them....just dug a hole. LOL I'll ask some English guys on another board if they hunt them there for food or sport. I own some tupperware stuff too,all has its place......but nothing feels as good as fitted wood, especially on a shotgun :<)
  15. Tune up work plinking around the shop with the O/U..... And the Single; I shoot starlings at a local dairy barn a few times a year when they rotate the herd out for cleaning during the day between milkings with the O/U. Plenty of targets most times.
  16. Shot shells are not hard to do. I used to do 20's when I shot lots of clays and sold the press when I got into more rifle/big game stuff. Easier than rifle as the press is progressive and loads don't need to be to a high degree of weight accuracy. If you read around to other forums where 28's are discussed, almost everyone is using a MEC press for them. Wad selection varies a bit, and everyone likes the STS for practice, then reloads them (or they order new hulls) The Winchester AA's are liked too....but there is a certain kind.....what they are after is 5-6 reloadings. A local shop has ordered me in Rem. STS #8's or 9's for $8/box(10/case) and free shipping if its on a bigger order of 12'/20's if I buy the case....I use them for practice and some small game. Able ammo has a good selection including some non toxic waterfowl loads.....hold onto your hat if you think regular shells are expensive.....LOL...... Midway has OK pricing/selection too. Because its a fairly unusual caliber for here, they run more. Down south they are a quail/dove round and run a tad cheaper in local stores. I have some very rare 28 slugs by Remington that I am saving for a coyote......they are mid 80's production. I have an unique smooth bore barrel I/C that has full sights made for either birds or boar....Brenneke Europe makes a slug round but they don't import them yet; maybe this year as Taurus was supposed to introduce a 28 capable hand gun like the 410 Judge. Give me a couple days I will PM you some links to relevant discussion on shot shells....files are on another computer.
  17. I hunt small game mostly with a 28, both O/U and single shot. I use the same size and brass styles I would chose for a 20 in similar situations. (Just took my first turkey with #6 High brass pheasant loads, clean kill) If you shop around there are OK prices on case quantities. If you reload for them most guys favor the Remington STS loads as the hulls last the longest.(I'm waiting on a coupon sale for a MEC reloader before I make the plunge doing them myself)
  18. Being self employed means I can generally move my schedual around to hunt more than the typical 9-5 folks. It comes at a price, like now I have been slow for work for a long time,(carpenter), you never know what the future will bring for work, and all the benefits like retirement, insurance are on your own back.... But I have done more than a few month long hunt trips and I wouldn't trade that for a regular job at the time. As I get older I'm not so sure that I don't want a steady pay check, but if things pick back up I'll just go find a long trip and do it again anyway.....who am I fooling. LOL
  19. Good guy....we have met up once for lunch and another time to punch some paper at his gun club when I was upstate visiting my father. I'm not sure if that was good or bad? I'm about to drop a deposit on a new toy.
  20. Good moose year; I know of several folks who connected in different areas..... That's some damn good eating right there. Congrats on the hunt.
  21. Hey Larry check these out. New Woodleigh Hydro in a 9.3x62.....these are some Aussie guy's I know well who hunt Sambar in the nastiest forest you ever seen. They're always lookin' for a magic pill to shoot through stuff or DRT one so they don't have to track. Warning! Rough language in the commentary (kinda what makes it funny too!);
  22. I live just outside of town a bit......so being local; I figure I get to just a little.
  23. Hmmmm.....Berkenstock sandals...... Next you'll be telling us how you stubbed your toe antiquing in Rhinebeck, or on the villiage green in Woodstock when up this way. LOL
