Brenneke products are OK for full choke, smooth bores. I have a full choke 28ga and emailed to confirm last year, any of the non-sabot loads are OK for any gauge.. But you shouldn't run any sabots in a smooth bore.

Thats a pretty big window on an elk for what the OP is doing (10 yds on an animal you know is coming at you and 4x16). Love that shot with a gun on deer and critters as big as an elk; used with great success. Have to have a deer with everything going right I think with a bow. That window would shrink to 2x6 maybe........any guesses to that?

For Dutchess, Northern Dutchess Archery and Joe the owner has been a good guy to deal with for me. -

If We Did This Already.........................

Good cheese and not to thin of crust. Green peppers but put on about half way through baking, so they aren't just mush and soggy. Some nice leftover venison sausage; brat or hot italian. A bit of garlic in the sauce; but I don't want to feel like I'm gnawing on a clove. -
Where to sight in-public ranges? Promiscuous shooting?
Dinsdale replied to Dr Ignominious Death's topic in General Chit Chat
The use of promiscuous is there to encompass what some folks would call stump shooting.....just picking out a random target to practice on a walk.....as well as target shooting in the traditional sense at a set station and distance. WMA definitions for those types of lands have always excluded any form of target shooting (along with no motor vehicles etc, specific to them). -
Are "they" Deliverying?

Always interesting to see these reports and the lack of interest from outdoors folks in general. Yet some have no idea where the money goes or the multiple programs that all come into play.- 8 replies

Good stuff. Those new borns don't need nothing, so its better spent on more guns anyway. Punch out some primers, and with some fishing line you can make a mobile for the crib. Mix a little brass and some shotgun hulls in different colors to mix it up. Win- win.

Look at you.......total newb just a few years ago and now you've fallen right down the gun looney rabbit hole. Congratulations or not......kinda depends I guess. LOL And here I was just thinking my 20 ga 870 was just broken in nicely at well over 25,000 rounds. I need to start saving it I guess. I did refinish the wood to spiff it up a bit. Gun Broker is OK. You'll find a few folks who won't ship even a clearly legal simple bolt action or break action to NY (or CA).....and on this end, a few FFL's that want it shipped FROM an FFL. Either way I avoid those idiots as both don't deserve gun owners business.

Today 8/12/2013 DMP's are available... Did you get your area?
Dinsdale replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I got 2! First time in a long time......still only 200 for where I live(4Z) so I didn't bother for a PP. 250 sq mi of over grown farmland with 200 tags and there isn't a nub left in the woods anywhere to regenerate a thing. DMAP's must be easy to get. LOL But got a 3G across the street and a 3F.......have small areas in both, but something none the less. -
21st.....we are both Leo's. That make up special? Other than Loozerville that I use on most forums I don't usually fill that crap out. Sometimes I'll put up a signature line to mess with another poster by putting something that irks them.LOL

LOL. In a few days I'll be adding a year too. Be careful at dinner; your older now. Don't go hurting yourself with all the candles on the cake.

better dump your ammo stockpile
Dinsdale replied to verminater71's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The SAFE act stuff was written so fast because it was old committee level bills and wording put all together and passed. We get a Sandy Hook, theater shooting, etc. here and "they" will be right back at it for more next time. -
At the time, 2005, I didn't even own a computer; and all I worked with was broke ass carpenters like me to ask. LOL I bought an donated auction hunt that had some quota attached and included an observer for free, but the PH was OK to get a license for the observer to take those animals.....I took them on my hunt. I did some bathroom renovations for a guy who owned a local limo service; so I traded him time for a ride; nice not to have to long term park down there.

No doubt, its tough. I used to arrange a fishing trip to Quebec for about 7 years running. I think one out of seven there wasn't a problem with someone it seemed. One dude had a DWI and wasn't allowed over the border and blamed me. Another showed up with not enough money to get back home but he drove on his own instead of car pooling as I wouldn't let him smoke in my car for the 6 hr drive. I had to loan him 40 bucks to get a tank full of gas. One packed like 7 t shirts and 3 pairs of jeans; but a broken fishing pole. When you bush plane fly weight is very strict.....trip of a lifetime for him......and he brought extra cloths and a pole he knew was broken.(last 2 eyes and the tip missing) Can't make this shit up. Eventually it was just me and another guy for a few more times, but he got married and moved, so that ended that. On one trip I could have brought someone along for free on a 10 day South African safari trip for the cost of airfare to them......1200 bucks. Could have shot 3 animals for free....all meals, lodging, transportation, I even had a free limo drive to JFK......never got anyone interested. Now I figure it must be me.....so I gave up all those silly thoughs of planning with others. I did have a smokin' hunt with another hunter I met on a forum for muledeer; hunt with him again in a second. Soon as his hip replaced at the end of this year and he heals up; we are going to Africa.....my 4th trip and his first. Hope he gets better sooner than later. LOL

+1 funny stuff.

Ejection is fine, there's plenty of clearance because of the bevel on the rail bottom edge. I don't know......some folks don't like the EGW beacuse it adds some height. I chose it because the Aimpoint comes with the 30mm rings in weavers so the picatinny groove spacing works OK. The front scope cap JUST fits back over the tube. The comb is a tick to low for me, but a piece of foam on the back of a buttstock shell holder will fix that up. That Savage spacing is HUGE between bases. I was still thinking about a VX3 2.5-8x32 to try on there and couldn't find the Burris Signature Zee rings I wanted to use anywhere in stock for offsets. I guess for the time I'll have it afield for just deer season its OK. I may mill off the grooves that will not be needed and cut it shorter; have it re anodized if I keep it for a spell.

No on the boiling.....I do use simmering to clean up skulls with some washing soda mixed in. I guess a 55 gal drum cut into a tray would work for a pot for cooking as it would seem you'd need to get the hot water right up into the cores to get them softened up. My thought would be if its cold weather back here when returning, is to freeze it whole and wait if you want them to rot off. I tried a steer in late fall and didn't get good bacterial and bugs to get it going. Just kinda lingered and never really smelled. By spring after I left it tied to a stump in the woods, both sheaths came right off. Hung it on my barn and a coon came and stole them! Damn critters. LOL
-
Horns you let rot to soften the horn bond enough to slip off the cores. Then you cut the core off closer to the skull leaving a stump so you can put the sheaths (horns) back on after cleaning the skull and inside the horn, I've done a couple, some come easy, others can be damn tough.

K-mart and cheap Remington Sluggers on sale.....the good ol' days. LOL Bird barrel and some Brennekes killed a pile of deer from the 20ga 870.
