Millbrook R&G on Woodstock Rd off RT 82 has skeet and 5 stand open to public on Sundays......easy to cut through Salt Point to get over there from your way.
-
I know someone from the local SCI chapter that did a cruise and after did a hunt. I know he used the outfitters rifle and shot a goat and something else.....axis maybe. Google up Pat Fisher hunting hawaii. I know you can apply for DIY on some park lands for control work from what IIRC.

Sum ting wong Rarry? ^^^see what I did there?

No such thing as too much gun. Shot placement, bullet design should be thought about if you're saving meat.....go kill stuff.

Ever lose darn near all of your hunting stuff?
Dinsdale replied to phade's topic in General Chit Chat
Missed this thread earlier.....damn that sucks. Make a list of the stuff you need to replace; most folks have extra stuff, including me..... Happy to send anything that you can use. -
I guess in the end its like a bunch of stuff its not as clean cut, black and white, as one would hope;....... Set aside $$$ for enviromental conservation stuff>>>>>spend it on conservation stuff. ;<) What a dysfunctional mess we have become in this country. From my understanding the use of the NY conservation fund has been on and off used for officer training/salaries....but not consistent. Post up the you-tube link;<)

ROTFLMAO.

If it was Chicago on any given night and another gangsta wacked him, it wouldn't even make the news.

I seen this last night Larry over on 24Hr. Hilarious.

Geeze Joe.....had me nervous there for a moment. Thought you were going to post pics of you with a stupid tounge stud, eyebrow ring, or one of them things that makes a hole in your earlobe. LOL

First I'd say I agree in that conservation fund monies are a tempting target for politicians to see those $$$$ for general use and that should not be happening. I disagree with the state training new DEC recruits using those funds, that is not the purpose. Why? Because the DEC is not a fish and game department, although thats the common interaction for folks on a board like this especially. Their duties include tasks that benefit all NY'ers and all should pay.....not just on the back of sportsmen. For example we all have a vested interest in clean water; not just for the fish in them. I do disagree on the difference with forgien aid and taking conservation dollars in your last sentence for the same reason. Foreign aid comes from a pooled resource that can be a good benefit in a larger context, both politically and financially. Just as all NY residents have a interest in clean water; we now live in a global economy and in that larger arena we play a roll. Our state wants to raid a dedicated fund set up for one purpose, foriegn aid doesn't come from a specific revenue generator. I do think we often spend those aid funds poorly and without a good long term continuum because of our political system, and that is unfortunate. But isolationism will not be the great savior to our woes, but we are playing from behind often in the global marketplace and that will take investment to change,

Not to be a stickler but its 10 million in services not cash..... That sounds good as a nice round number, but actual costs are a different number. Your costs are fixed if a military advisor is on the ground in SA or Tanzania or some base in Kansas.....same for a technician thats teaching training a new piece of equiptment. Part of what is going on is they want to use some drone technology for anti poaching and we are pretty good at that. What that also does is gives us a strategic physical presence on a continent that the Chinese are buying up and are HUGE in their economic and now starting military presence. The Chinese and other SE Asian countries also happen to be the single biggest importer in the illegal wildlife traffing world wide. Their new found wealth and freeing internal market has caused an explosion in demand for traditional medicine based in animal parts by folks who have never been able to afford or acquire them.

Yet another item that should be under the simple control of DEC, but somewhere along the lines the Legislature has jurisdiction. Ridiculus relic of the past.

Highly recommended read for Antler Restriction

I think its important to consider the sources of information as well as the content. He's a regular contributor on a local forum and I have a great deal of respect for his take on subjects as he's "one of us" and not just an academic. You can read some more of his articles here on some other subjects if you wish; http://dhenry.hudsonvalleysportsman.com/ -

I fall in here with WNY. But if anyone gets the chance, the author of the article gives a nice power point presentation to groups that is worth taking the time to watch. He was a long time respected biologist for DEC and did some very interesting projects over a long career. Also happens to be an avid hunter and overall nice guy who is very generous of his time to many groups in the Hudson Valley. -
I just bought a Hoyt, first new bow in about 10 years. Played with a couple and liked the draw also. Shoots nice, whole bunch faster than my old bow. LOL Good luck with the new toy.

Buy some rebar and drive it into the ground so the ends stick up just above where the mower deck cut line is about a foot on your side of the property line. Slightly bent T-posts laying in the grass can do wonders on a mower deck also......they'll flip up into the deck when the tires hit them.

Good for my deer "herd"?
Dinsdale replied to josephmrtn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
When I had beef cattle on my place Joe the deer would jump the fence for the minerals I had out and ate more than the cattle...... Not illegal when out for operating agricultural use and nothing that'll hurt, and like Phade posted just debateable as to when it'll help. Eventually I went to silage feed and mixed mineral in and got rid of the free choice. But I do notice there are always deer tracks around that spot where the old tubs were (against an old stump); and that was maybe 7 or even 8 years ago when I stopped. -
Sometimes when I get 2 or 3 down I just do one then kick some leaves and throw some branches over the others. Then you don't get crows hanging out. Hey Hillbilly you should get some gold for that tooth so you can impress the ladies........they like that kinda stuff.
-
Hey; I remember readin' about that tooth in the other thread. LMAO I don't waste any time with a deer.......I just cut the backstraps out when its layin' on the ground. No dragging or gutting.....and enough skinning for me in getting that is enough hard work for me.

Tastes like chicken. LOL

On a 5k hunt; if you shot a 130, you'd most likely be paying a penalty on top of that for shooting a dink, many places have minimums depending on set up and it'll cost you some cash for messing up. Just 2 cents and YMMV.... I'd want 2 hunters that were successful and 2 that weren't from both the last 2 years to talk to for references.....and alot more details about the property. Who owns it, how many acres, some GPS coords to check it on google earth, some numbers on shot opportunities (I don't care about success rates, can't factor for poor shots by clients) and some honest photos with some real net scores not gross SCI type numbers. Check some of that vs weather last winter and rain so far this year and nutrition potential, recent B+C entries for the county and township, Ill. F&G for harvest rates and talk to someone who supervises that area. And the typical how many hunters at a time and per year, stand details, hunt schedual, blah blah blah, the usual how to book a hunt questions. I'd need some pretty dang good answers for that price and some very good opportunity for the number involved from what I see around; as noted for bow especially. But that can be a going price for a bunch of bone, and folks will pay it.

For you upstate guys that must be some good eating to get ya' through the month; eh?
-
Barcelona food is AMAZING. Actually all the region of Catalunya is fantastic eating; on the whole best eats I have ever had. Lunch was so good almost couldn't get back out to hunt in the afternoon.LOL Schedual is kinda crazy......you can't get a table for dinner after 9-10pm at night, its packed......but damn fine eats from the local small specialty stores right through the restaurants. And the women there are damn fine too!
