need some help with riflescope selectiom
Dinsdale replied to apoallo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
OK.....that's damn funny right there. -
I call my dog idiot more than anything........must take after her owner.
-
I just hope folks don't lose sight of the small vendors that are really taking a hit over this and support some of them also by visiting their shops when possible or over the net.
-
Those Kimbers are pretty nice...... I'd think how much I really like the rifle...... But I'd be more inclined to see if I could sell it for more over the net (not sure what former NY compliant guns bring), then just outright buy the pistol.
-
Most of the celebs have bailed now.....Shockey,Weishuhn,Lee and Tiffany........others on list. Maybe close to a 100 vendors as of tonight. Callman above here made the same post on Hunting PA and several guys stepped up and said they would order calls. Not sure if he is going or not.
-
It's my understanding they sent out a statement to these particular vendors that any advertising banners that depicted evil black weapons, and the guns/magazines would no longer be permitted for display. Non compliance would mean removal from the show. I'm guessing there will be a class action with several vendors suing Reed for breach of contract. Frankly I'm sure there was political pressure behind the scenes with the venue being the PA Farm Show Complex. NRA is staying for the show in their statement; PA guys are taking that as wishy washy. NRA says take a stand and go no holds bar to make a stand......unleash the dogs. Now they say go ahead and be there to get the word to Reed your not happy when there. But many take it that they want the membership money as PA has a large part of national numbers and they do well there. Like you said.....business.
-
Reed marketed a new section of the show expressly to these vendors then last moment had a change with just 2 weeks out. Not exactly kosher to vendors. NSSF is the owner of SHOT....but Reed does that shows logistics and promotion.
-
Just some backround in that Reed Expo had been advertising a new "tactical and accessories" section this year to use the popularity to book new vendors. Reed also does NSSF's SHOT Show that just finished in Vegas.....largest tactical gun show in the world ironically..... Here's one vendor and their statement; Statement from Domari Nolo: "Domari Nolo has officially pulled our booth from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show. We apologize to the attendees who were looking forward to seeing us at the show. However, this was just the right thing to do. Below is our letter to the event organizer, Reed Exhibitions: Due to the last minute changes in the show's complexion and restrictions, we do not believe being a part of the show reflects on our company in a positive way. In particular, the removal of the promised Tactical section and renaming of that part of the event in a way that belittles the efforts of companies involved is unacceptable. We would not have agreed to be included in a 'Wild West' area had that been the original agreement. Our sponsors also do not want such an association, and have pulled their support of our show presence. Continuing in the show would put us in direct conflict with our vendors and partners. Besides the financial loss these changes have caused, we are also not being informed of the new regulations. As an exhibitor, we feel appropriate communication from the show organizer is a reasonable expectation. The website information available is not sufficient for us to be prepared, nor were we able to get specific information from the customer service staff. We regret the need to take these actions, but given the circumstance we feel we are left without an acceptable alternative." Have to admit to being in a quandry along Antlers lines.....was to meet with a small outfitter and a first timer to ESOS. My potential booking would go a long way for the expense if we go ahead with an agreement. Hopefully the blowback is enough to sway a reconsideration of policy......there are MANY threads on a similar PA board about this. And it created a small buzz at SHOT behind the scenes with many vendors late last week, I just talked to one.

If I was a proctologist I'd have one of those in full view on an instrument tray bed side. LOL.

LOL.....5 pages of strangers interested in a a**hole like you.....errr; I mean your a**hole....errr; I mean your well being. Only in America on line

Sounds like an interesting evening you are having..... Bend over and say ahhhhh. Don't get fresh with the nurses in your happy state tomorrow. Other than that....good luck.

You can drop the rear sections and just use the front. Guy I got it from was using a big old lawn and garden type tractor with weights and chains on the wheels....too big for him. I used a Deere 700 series and Farmall.......and made a few swaths with my skidsteer. I know where there is a 3pt set I can get and that'll be better for me, so this needs to go.
-
First I'd email Boyd's and see what they use.....I'm guessing its just birchwood-casey product. Myself I would lightly break the sharp edge there with some 220 or 320..... Take a little tru-oil and add a couple drops of stain in a similar color....Just enough to q-tip on a bit til' I got a good color saturation. Typically I use commercial aniline dye type stains to pre-match a color, but you can get by with a mix to make things easier. Coat any other cutting/sanding you did inside to seal it with the tru-oil.

Get ready for planting season with this bargain priced disc..... Front section is 4' wide, rear set as 5'. Has trays for block ballast if needed (shown one block in pic for reference....blocks not included); one outer disc has a chip about 2" off the rim (see far disc rear set on first pic); everything free turns and is functional. I did a 1/2 acre a few times with this. Could just use the front with minor mods (add a piece of angle) for a smaller tow vehicle....JMO. Fork loaded right onto your trailer...... $80 cash firm.......Northern Dutchess.

Yikes Larry.....hope everything turns out OK. I made some venison/pork/beef chili last night...... You wouldn't need any of that.....this stuff will burn anything out of you from one end to the other; nothing left to worry about. Used these little dried peppers, holy smokes. Good luck.....

I've never done any of the awards stuff..... I'm close on their "pigs of the world" at the entry copper level(bushpig, warthog, euro boar, javalina) just need a collared peccary at some point, and may fill that one in someday just for $hits and giggles......my lasting (only?) mark on the hunting world. LOL For what a membership costs, the glossy magazine has some good stories in it and is better than it was, say 5 years ago........still lots of ads, but I know a few of the contributors once in a while from other forums/personal, and had one of my hunts published a few years ago......pays $25. Har Har. Then they have the newspaper also that is included, that has a few articles and some chapter news stuff. I joined as you have to be a member to attend the convention.......they had a great deal on life time membership at the time and I figured attending 5 times would pay for it. (I've done 3 so far, and booked a hunt each time and bought an auction hunt twice.) They have been trying to clean up the board a bit from with in.......lots of shady dealings, rumours going on from what I read. And trying to put some teeth into the ethics commitee which would be a good thing. They finally banned a bunch of shady characters who should have never been allowed to participate in the first place and frankly gives them a black eye. Lots of big ego's involved and that does make it a bit of a stuff shirt club; but frankly I'm more interested in overseas hunting and there are a bunch of ordinary members to meet and talk with.... Like the NRA....they are not perfect.....but I don't think there is a group that is and I take it for the good not bad. JMO Hope the cat skull cleans up good and scores well.....

I hardly know one end of the hammer from the other. But I have an awesome board stretcher.......I cut it twice and its STILL to short.

See.....now you can say you have hobbnobbed with a rich guy..... And you had him work....for YOU!

On the SCI website under the "records" you can do a zip code search for a measurer..... I can tell you from looking at the paper they send, that Carl Pepi and over in Middletown....Bob Vitro..... always enter animals every month. Google them up as taxidermists. The paper lists who the measurer is and how many animals for a two month period they have submitted for hunters. But lots of regular members are measurers too......I took the class when I did the convention the first time in 2005; but I didn't buy the book kit needed and ended it there. Just for my own personal info to get a better idea on judging animals one is not familiar with. Another suggestion would be to email records dept at home SCI and they can send you a updated list (but convention time is here and they are REALLY busy right now....but you have to wait for drying anyway) Or Email up the Tri States chapter and someone may be able to direct you to a local member. My taxidermist up in N. Dutchess does about hundred and change for entries every year....Frank Zitz. I think that Arjun Reddy in Brewster....a small hunt booking agent.....is a measurer. IIRC.....not sure. I just tossed my last newspaper mailing and don't save them, otherwise I'd look for a couple for you....they list who has taken the course recent. Oh......and I'm just a lowly carpenter and a life member of SCI.......I figure if I rub shoulder enough, the money will rub off!LOL Like any group, there are a bunch of stuff shirts, but the local chapters do some good work. And the convention they put on is very cool for someone looking to travel and hunt.....easy worth the time and expense to attend if you are looking to drop some serious money on an overseas hunt. JMHO

Anyone have experience with a 7x57 or 7mm Mauser?
Dinsdale replied to Rev Ev's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I'm just messing with you, hence the smiley face. @ Rev...... 7x57 as new production can be done, but going to be a limited number of "regular" makers. Ruger did chamber the 77 as factory, but not anymore. They still do the no 1 as a full stock (single shot). Several Euro makers have them, For one set of rifles I own can get several choices of barrel types chambered for it........but its out there for price for what most folk pay for a gun. Most are chambering for 7x64 Brenneke anyway as a 7mm along with an -08 and Rem Mag........ Given cost parameters a 7-08 may make a bit more sense if in the new market. Used is a whole different ball game......lots of decent iron out there at reasonable cost in 7x57. -

I fail to see the reasoning behind using performance overlap as a detterence from buying another rifle. YMMV. -

Good point here...... If you want/need to shoot factory, look for speed published on loads if shooting "good" equiptment that'll take hotter loads if you want the benefits of a flatter/retained energy load. Especially US loaded ammo is low velocity, bottom end to make up for suspect sporterised stuff. But does cut recoil noticeably and may not matter depending on distances etc. (lots of decent Euro ammo loaded to full potential out there) -
Storing Guns - Cocked or uncocked?
Dinsdale replied to Elmo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I think alot of this is based in suspect metallurgy of older guns. I have a few "vintage" guns and they get snap caps, I don't trust dry firing them for tension release.....and don't want them stored compressed. On new stuff I don't care if I dry fire practice with them and store them anyway they happen to get put away. Some will drop a firing pin when closing the bolt with trigger depressed, some won't. On a rimfire a plasic hollow wall anchor works good for a snap cap if one is worried the striker will peen a chamber edge on a dry fire. The 3 regular centerfires I use most don't ever have a compressed spring until put in a ready to fire mode. They have a cocking/decocking style bolt that only compresses the firing pin spring while engaged and ready to fire; and then released when on "safe".
