...and he clearly said he shot at 615pm. Vey poor decision and is likely why he wounded and most likely lost the buck. I dont care if he was a new hunter or not. He should be critisized for this decision
-
I hope you give that deer the respect he deserves and search for him for hours and hours as he is dead and died a slow death because of your poor shot selection. I would also seriousely reconsider if I should be hunting any longer if I were you until I developed the self-restraint to wait for ethical shots

Started at age 10 with my grandfathers Bear Kodiak and fiberglass arrows but lost them all trying to hit squirrels Graduated to a new Hoyt compound at 12. Probably went through 3-4 dozen cheapie aluminum arrows over the next two years At age 14 ordered a LL Bean Bear bow that was on sale for $60 with free shipping. i thought it was the cats meow. Also went through several dozen arrows--Easton Gamegetter 2's always from Caps Fishing and Hunting--those from Buffalo will surely remember the store on Niag Falls BLVD Next bought a High Country bow with crazy radical hatchet cams and prob two dozen XX75 arrows. Always used to get them on sale at Dicks After this moved on to an Alpine bow with a crazy overdraw. I think the XX75 arrows were 26" long and prob had 3 dozen. Bow shot great until I had strings replaced at Gander MTN and they screwed it up forever. Bow could not be fixed by anyone and I took it to at least 2 shops--I learned never let a big box store tune your bow! Next moved on to a Bowtech Tribute and carbon arrows. Used prob 3 dozen in 10 years and I shoot a lot So in summary, lots and lots of arrows

The solution is very simple. Save up $200,00 for 100 acres of land and budget $5000/yr for taxes etc and then you will not need to worry about the pheasant hunters. They have just as much right to hunt as they wish as you do on state land

I second this!! I miss Phil Race!! He had a great shop in Hilton ( Indian Mountain Archery) and was one of the best bow tuners I have ever met. Anyone know what happened to him?

Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
gastrodoc replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Per the great Jack Oconnor " If the hunter does his part the .270 will not let him down" Love the .270, especially for whitetails -
Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
gastrodoc replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
an arrow and a bullet kill by very different means. An arrow kills by cutting tissue and causing hemorrhage. A bullet kills by destroying tissue by shock. Sure, a .243 can kill an elk but it is certainly not good or even close to an ideal choice. Why recommend a suboptimal cartridge to the OP -
Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?

.243 for elk?? That would be an extremely poor choice in my opinion even with the hottest of handloads. If you ever showed up on a guided hunt with that round you would likely be sent home -
.22 CB or short to the ear. Nearly silent and have never had an exit

Pretty impressive deer caught on my friends cam near Dansville! What is your guess at age? I feel 4.5 or 5.5y/o. Poor guy has another pic of the deer at 9am right under one of his stands on a day he wasnt hunting

Dads Ithaca 37 deerslayer with a Winchester 1oz slug. 21 yrs ago but can remember it like it was yesterday! -
I bet you will really like that Summit climber. I love mine and can get set up silently in less than 5 minutes. That Dicks comfort zone climber is a death trap. I had the bottom platform fall out from under my feet when I was 25ft up in a tree as the cable broke. I then upgraded to the Summit and couldnt be happier. I now no longer buy any of the cheap Dicks stands except for their ladders. The more expensive stands ie. Summit are much lighter, engineered better, and are just so much nicer and safer to use

I am pretty sure they surveyor will charge you extra for this. I just had to pay $350 extra to have flags placed every 75 ft down a 900 yard property line on a recent survey. A standard survey these days is just pins at corners or other waypoints

instead of going out hunting I would probably spend some time at the range shooting at different heights etc to see what is wrong

There are innumerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals that find it highly likely that there an association of marijuana smoking and lung cancer. " Marijuana smoking, like tobacco smoking, may be associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. MJ smoke contains cannaboid compounds and other toxic factors such as benzopyrene similar to tobacco that have been linked to lung cancer" Archives of Internal Medicine Ingestion is likely a safer route if you are going to use MJ

Completely agree. I just don't understand the mentality driving this. As a physician who sees first-hand the devastating effects of tobacco, I don't understand how they rationalize this

Buy at least a 25 or 30 gallon tank. Believe it or not they are easier to take care of then the smaller 10gal tanks. Start with tropical freshwater fish. A great mix would include swordtails, black molly's, a school of neon tetras, 1-2 angel fish, and 1-2 bottom feeders like algae eaters or catfish. This used to be a hobby of mine and I enjoyed it greatly

Browning BAR .308 Accuracy issues
gastrodoc replied to ApexerER's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Have you tried torqueing the forend/sling swivel nut to factory specs? This made my gun go from 3-4" groups at 100yds to less than an inch. It completely changed the gun and is a very common problem. I don't recall the correct torque offhand but you can google it -
Anyone else have property in the wind farm project zone?
gastrodoc replied to First-light's topic in General Chit Chat
I agree with Doc on this one also. These things completely ruin the landscape. Naples and outside of Cohocton are two prime examples. They are really an eyesore. Sure, the landowners with leases may benefit but they certainly must lower surrounding property values. Who would want to buy a house right next to these things?? -
This gun has gotten rave reviews. It is Ruger's entry level rifle but they have done many things right and they are supposed to be extremely accurate with very nice triggers. My buddy has one in .270 and it routinely shoots MOA. The .308 is a great whitetail round and is inherently a very accurate cartridge

I don't see Gander Henrietta making it too much longer. Their selection is poor, there are never any employees to answer your questions, and their store is always a ghost town when I am in there. Now with Field and Stream across the street and Bass Pro opening in Victor they are done

A trip like this in the 'dacks is on my bucket list Great pics and welcome to the site
