Browning BAR .308 Accuracy issues
gastrodoc replied to ApexerER's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have a BAR Safari in .270. I shoots clover-leaf groups all day at 100yds with Federal fusion and Hornady North American Whitetail. You should expect at least 1.5-2" groups at 100yrds The gun is VERY sensitive to the torque of the forend screw. If it is too tight it effects the harmonics of the barrel and my accuracy goes from MOA to several inches at 100yds. I believe the torque is 65in/lbs but I would double-check to be sure. I dialed mine in and then put a small white paint mark on the screw and the ajoining wood so I knew it was torqued to the same amount each time. I would bet the torque of the screw is the issue These guns are known to be among the most accurate of the autoloaders -
Where does it end? Benghazi, IRS scandal, Obamacare, Al-Qaeda now taking over Iraq, Fast and Furious, Syria, Israel, etc etc etc. He is the worst embarassment of a president this nation as ever seen!!! God help us all if Hillary is next

Totally agreed. It is amazing how fast the liberal press jumps on this and Obama can do anything he pleases and be largely ignored

Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY
gastrodoc replied to Tinlodge's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Thank Cuomo and Silver? Are you kidding me? They both will do anything possible to take our guns and 2nd ammendment rights. I will not thank them for anything. There is surely some agenda behind King Cuomo's endorement of this FUAC -
Damn. Real nice deer. If he made it through the season he will be spectacular next year

I grew up in a suburban town outside of Buffalo. In eigth grade, I brought my compound bow to school for a show and tell hunting broadheads and all. I was able to walk into school with the bow in plain sight and no questions were asked. Me and my friends used to trap and only had our bikes for transportation. We used to ride down Main Street with red and gray fox as well as coon slung over our shoulders on our bikes and never had any issues. This wasn't that long ago, 1989-1990. Today, I think your parents would get a visit from the police

Anyone have a problem with this post.

The pic and the caption disgust me. No respect for the animals -

Urban legend deer situation. What would you do?
gastrodoc replied to Al Bundy's topic in Deer Hunting
I would not even hesitate to take the shot. I owe it to the suffering animal -
No shooting in 8N at all on Sat am. A small amount on Sunday. Deer movement has been minimal. I sat from first light to 1pm Sat and noon to dark Sun and saw nothing. I think most movement is at night as there are tracks galore

I typically wear two pairs of thermal bottoms, two pairs of thermal tops. Then thick wool pants and a wool sweater. On top of this goes a windproff fleece pullover, then a wool vest. I then put on a woolrich jacket. Over all of this goes an insulated bib in 3XL. I then have a fleece gaitor that I put around my neck and insert three hot packs between the gaitor and my skin and a wool cap goes on my head along with two hot packs I throw in my cap. I can sit on stand all day like this. The secret is layering and also adding supplemental heat with the handwarmers/hotpacks

How to conceal your climbing stand once the leaves fall
gastrodoc replied to Lord of War's topic in Bow Hunting
I always try to find a tree that has a hemlock or pine as a backdrop to help conceal me. Beach and oaks will oftentime still have their leaves so can also serve as a nice backdrop. If the area you hunt is only straight stemmed hardwoods it can be very difficult. The only option then is going higher but I have had them spot me 25ft up in a wide open tree -
This makes me sick. I hope to god the person that shot it didnt leave it because it was so small. Some hunters are real scumbags

Not only are my health insurance costs significantly increasing, Obamacare is completely destroying my profession and innumerous Mds are retiring in droves. This is going to destroy medicine and medical care in this country. I cant believe these Sheeples still drive around with an Obama sticker on their car. How can any rational person believe in this clown!!

ADK Birthday Buck! My 3rd Hamilton county buck!
gastrodoc replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Deer Hunting
Congrats! Beautiful buck. A pack-in trip like this in the 'dacks is on my bucket list! -
When I was younger, I used to be bored after a few hours. Now, with my limited free time, I cherish every minute on stand. I can sit all day and never get bored

If the temp is higher than 35-40 degrees I would not hang it for more than a few hours. The temperatures are high enough that they are not suppressing baterial growth and you take a definite chance of spoilage

Costs of putting in a larger plot.
gastrodoc replied to agross's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Definately not a weekend job. Much more efficient if you can have the logging crew clear or hire a local heavy equiptment operator if you can agree on a fair price. My friend had a total of (5) 1/4 to 1/2acre polots cleared by a local forester who used a Cat D5 and an excavator. It took them 3 days to put in the plots and they plowed, limed, and planted them also. It would have taken us years to do this job on the weekends and it is also dangerous work. I believe he paid 4 thousand for everything. They were put in in May and we are hunting over them currently -
Thats interesting. I have heard the Amish theory multiple times from the locals. There is an ever increasing Amish population there in 9P. They have bought all of the old farms and many are not happy to see them there. Whether it is coincidence or not, when the Amish started to arrive is when the deer population seemed to fall. There are also numerous "tame deer" with collars on them that the Amish train. I didnt believe it until I had one walk up to me in the woods with a pink collar on and eat an apple out of my hand
-
I also hunt this area and have heard nothing of this. Saying that, I hope that the pic is true. That is a hell of a deer
-
I hunt 9P also, town of Allen. The hunting has been extremely poor the last few years for unclear reasons. I can count on one hand the number of deer I see all bow season. I hunt hard, practice QDM on my 175 acres, and have seen a complete downward change in deer numbers over the last 10 years. My property is great habitat with selective timber cuts every 10yrs and a nice mix of hardwoods, pines, and bramble. The deer are just not there. I now hunt in 8N and see plently of deer every time

Small bucks chasing in 8N.. Starting to see the mature bucks. Does are nowhere to be found

The first is always a trophy. Nice job!
