Had a buddy have a camera stolen from his property. His neighbor was a hunter and didn't like the fact that my buddy's stand was within 200 yards of his property line. They had words previously because he would tell his friends they could ride their quads on my buddys land a bunch of times. His camera went missing and he went right to the guys house and knocked on his door. Called his bluff and told him he had a 2nd camera off his stand and saw him walking away with his gear. The guy actually went into his garage and gave him back the camera! I would have given that scumbag a 5 finger across his face, but my buddy said the guy's wife was standing there. Some people are complete scumbags.

Lone Wolf Alpha Hang on stand
StevieSacs posted a topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have been looking at Alpha hang on 2 with climbing sticks for a year now and am thinking of pulling the trigger. I love how light it is and how easy it looks to set up. I am 6'3" 225lbs and am way too much of a wuss to use a climbing stand. the Comfort zone hang on that i have is built like SH*T. I replaced the cables with chain and added 2 more ratchet straps to it, so it feels sturdy enough. The actual construction is terrible, not to mention it probably weights 30lbs ( which is a bummer hanging 16' in the air by yourself) A buddy of mine got permission to hunt new property this weekend and did some scouting Saturday morning. He found what looked like a bedding area and took 10 minutes to put the lone wolf climbing sticks up and LW hang on stand in. He ended up dropping a gorgeous 8ptr that afternoon. No trail cam pics or prior scouting, just great hunting intuition. I was wondering if anyone has the Lone Wolf Alpha hang on and have any good experience with it. I just love the idea of being able to move your stand in 10 minutes and hunt a new area ( But hate climbers) Thanks, Stevie Sacs -
Was on stand Saturday afternoon and squirted some Doe in esterous out around the stand. When I went back in Sunday morning there was a HUGE scrape 20' from my stand. Cant wait to get back out again

I have the fanatic jacket, core hoody, and the incinerator gloves. Sitka is very expensive, but it feels tailored to your body and has so many little well thought out pockets and accessories. Core hoody is good for early season and to throw on over your base layers. It zips up passed your mouth and becomes a face mask, which i thought was really cool. I don't have any of the bibs or pants since I Use the spyder harness/bibs ( hands down best piece of hunting clothing that i own), I have to say their gear is second to non, especially if you get cold quickly and need some quality gear. I recently bought the Kuiu Chugach rain jacket and it is incredible. Sat in the rain for four hours in 40 degree weather and was dry as a bone. it packs down to almost nothing, so you can bring it in your pack with you just incase you get hit with unexpected rain. Highly recommend

Awesome man! congrats, you certainly earned the hell out of it

Nice bear! I wish there were some in Westchester. Can only get up to the catskills once or twice a season early enough to get a crack at one.

Fios really did everyone dirty. If i can't be in the stand at least I want to watch people on tv hunt

Took the whole weekend off so that i can get a few good sits in. Should definitely see some action. I ordered one of those pine ridge archery camera arms last week so hopefully it arrives before friday. would love to try out my new camera and get some footage.

Only thing I don't like about them, is that some of them flicker and randomly turn on if you've shot them previously. I like to take the exact arrow, broached and in this case knock that i'm hunting with and shoot it 2-3 times to make sure that its flying as true as my other arrows. Besides that, they are awesome. They are also a good marker if your tracking and lost the blood trail. Stick the arrow in the ground with the knock at your last spot of blood and you won't lose it even in the dark.

That won't turn off any deer/bucks that get a whiff? I've heard of guys pissing in scrapes or mock scrapes and it gets bucks all juiced up, but didn't know if that was an old wives tail or not!?

My fiancé always hooks it up with baby wipes when she goes grocery shopping. I always bring my knife, a water bottle, and my piss bottle so i can take a leak if i have to

Anyone ever hunting Mongaup Valley for black bear? My GF said that her friend owns a place in the area and they went out for a weekend and saw 4 black bear throughout the weekend. I've been trying to get one the last 2 seasons but haven't had the opportunity ( besides mother and cubs that were amazing to watch) Just wanted to know if anyone knows the area and has had any experience hunting there Thanks! I forgot to post this when I got it back in the spring. Gave my 8ptr from last season to Kurt Fox and he did an amazing job! I gave him another piece and that came out flawless as well. Recommend him to anyone looking for a good Taxidermist in the S. Ny section

I shot my first buck ever in the intestines because I was shaking with excitement. Luckily he jumped and ran 10' then haunched over. I was able to knock another arrow and drilled him again. I couldn't find my 2nd arrow so and wasn't 100% sure where it hit, so I backed out and waited 8 hours. One of the longest 8 hours I've ever had to endure. When we found him 60 yards from my stand the 2nd shot had double lunged him and hit the heart. When you think its a bad shot don't even consider going in after him and just back out. I will always have my quiver nearby ( I don't shoot with it on) because you never know when you'll be given a 2nd shot

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
StevieSacs replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Was in the catskills all weekend. Saw some nice doe activity and had a 4 ptr come in grunting like crazy. Had some great pictures of a nice black bear that i was hunting off an apple tree, but no luck. I did see a nice bobcat and porcupine though! -
What a wuss is right

I have changed a stand mid season and hunted in it the next day and seen deer. I think you are certainly fine!

Last year I used NAP Killzones and they were deadly. I decided to step it up this year and get single bevel Massai broad heads by Grizzlystick. They are expensive, but are absolute beasts. I am going upstate to Roxbury for opening weekend and will hopefully come across a nice black bear... if i'm lucky i'll get to try them out on a nice boar. SeaSac

Ive been out 5x and have only heard a single gobble. My cousin has a place up in Roxbury and hasn't seen a single tom. I don't know what is going on. Maybe it will kick off a bit late?

WOW that is incredible. I hunted pretty hard for a bear this year, but only had a sow and cubs come in. Hopefully next year is my year, as almost all of them on my cousins property have gone nocturnal in the last few weeks. congratulations because that is amazing. Very very cool

Awesome buck man.. Congrats!

First time hunting ever I had a buck come in 30 minutes into the sit. Just sitting at the base of a tree not really knowing much about it. I was so nervous I put the pin on him, but didn't look through the peep. I think i had practiced for 4 months before the season and it all went right out the window. I was lucky enough that i had seen this big guy coming in from about 75 yards away. I actually told myself to calm down and take a deep breath to try and relax. I've never in my life felt a rush like that. I even had my Go-Pro on me too, but i was too nervous to turn it on and put the head mount on! Would have been amazing to have caught that all on video

I went up to Roxbury to hunt my cousin's camp and was told that he had a few Porcupines that kept eating all of his wooden tree stands and said to take one out if I saw him coming through. While sitting in one of his wooden stands the first day, a huge one come in right for me. I got him with my bow at 30 yards and decided to Euro the skull. I thought i'd share because it looks pretty cool. very similar to a Beaver.
