Welcome! 4H also, but on the very southern tip almost 4g.
-
There's a 3 legged one in 4H courtesy of my 10 mil last weekend if that helps, he might be a bit slow? Send as many as you can to the happy hunting ground!

Well I've been waiting on a new CC to arrive, got the old "someplace you've used your card had a security breech" email last week, not using my bank card online. New card should be here today, here's what I have queued up to purchase : Montana Extreme Blackhorn 209 Cleaning Solvent Blackhorn 209 Powder Charge Tubes - Per 6 Hornady XTP Pistol Bullets - 45 - 300 Grain - HP in .451-.452 PowerBelt Speed Clip 2 50 Cal BoreSnakes Remington Blackpowder Primers - #209 Premier STS Primers Thompson Center U-View Black Powder Measure 15 to 125 Grains Clear Polymer and Brass That seems like everything I need to fire it. Question In regards to the rod / cleaning kits : I can't find any of those CVA cleaning kits available anywhere, or I'd grab those. What I'm fuzzy on is : OK the rod for Triumph is...... just a rod. And it falls all the way into the barrel about an inch past the muzzle. Do I need to get attachments for it? If I get a range rod like this : https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002217980?pid=285630 Do I need to get attachments for that? I like the range rod idea so I can mark it with a sharpie for the correct height when it has 1 sabot/bullet in it, like the video.

This is the hardest part of the year in alot of ways. You have to wait a whole nother 10 days for this lull to be over and that magical time of year to start. Meanwhile your hindbrain is all "Just take some time off and get in the woods!" -
I know Milano is out, but I think we're really missing Jordan Phillips. Hung in there til the end. Oy to that run defense.

More pictures of the arrow and any blood / meat?Could be brisket. -
Yup. Scent free body wash head to toe. I get they can smell me downwind, but I figure less scent means from less distance. Leave less of a "scent trail" on the way in?

BH209 arrived today, box had "SMOKELESS" On the side. Which made me nervous after watching that video. Which led me to this Google search result : http://blackhorn209.com/nevada/#:~:text=SUMMARY,solid%2C not as Smokeless Powder. I found that very informative.

Damnit Biz, kids are supposed to make you fat like the rest of us. -
Gotcha, simple enough! How do they kick at 100? 12 gauge / 3 inch shell bad?
-
OK yet another follow up question from the dummy : You guys have mentioned grains by weight vs grains by volume multiple times. Does that mean you're measuring powder on a scale for higher accuracy vs the slightly variable packing rate of a powder by volume? So 77 grains by weight vs 77 grains by volume is just higher accuracy of measurement? Or are you doing a conversion from volume to weight?

https://opticsandammo.com/product/barnes-bullets-45115-460-sw-451-200gr-xpb-fb-20-mfg-30554/ See no reason why I can't try both! They would both fit into that 451-452 sabot! Got to imagine 200gr would drop a lot less from 100 to 200? What kind of powder volume are you shooting with those Buckmaster?
-
OK I've been looking for those all over, 2 things that confused me I think: #1) It says pistol bullet #2) Right there when I choose .452 diameter, its a 45 Caliber, THEN I can choose the 300 gr. I've been trying to find 50 caliber 300 gr, and they aren't available, just 350. Which seems a bit heavy for trying to shoot to 150/200, which is very possible from our raised hunting blind. So a 45 caliber, 300 gr, bullet type HP, .452 diameter Hornady XTP would go nicely with the https://www.harvestermuzzleloading.com/index.php/50-cal-crs/50-cal-crushed-rib-sabot-for-451-452-cal-bullet-pack-qty-50 right? Again I'm sorry for the constant questions but it's all new to me.

Think my 70 year old fart of a father could use it on the TC Triumph I got him?

Shopping list so far : TC measurement cylinder : https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002284568 Amazon: 50 cal boresnake CVA knucklesaver Blackhorn cleaning solvent : https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/montana-extreme-blackhorn-209-cleaning-solvent Breech Plug Cleaning kit : https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1016354010?pid=279815 Powerbelt speed loader : https://www.muzzle-loaders.com/cva-powerbelt-speed-clip-ac1501.html Do I need a range rod? Is the stock rod that comes on the rifle a PITA and best only for field useage? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002217980 A grease stick is for the breech plug right? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002223865 Only thing I'm really waffling on at this point is the bullet.

https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/blackhorn-209-high-performance-muzzleloading-powder Cost 130$ for 2 shipped
-
Yeah I might just do that.

Well this video is enough to sober you up real quick:

Allright it's dumb new guy questions time : These ML's listed as 50 Cal. https://opticsandammo.com/product/barnes-bullets-45115-460-sw-451-200gr-xpb-fb-20-mfg-30554/ https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/harvester-crush-rib-50-caliber-sabots---per-50 The harvester crush rub Sabots seem to be the general consensus best sabot. Am I correct in assuming that these Sabots and the actual bullets, although listed at .451 are what I shoot through a .50 Cal smoke pole?

Finally got around to watching it last night! Great, great video.
