  1. There WAS a beach ball sized nest of these mean assed, white faced hornets near the raised blind plot. As soon as I saw it I did a 180 on the tractor, back to the cabin for some spray. Those things are not to played around with.
  2. Going up to check and cut a load of firewood. There was a flash wood warning last night not too far away, I'm thinking the seed finally got a good solid drenching!
  3. Dad called and said they got 2 nice downpours. Plus some rain next week, should be good to go!
  4. I know a good taxidermist, who lives in Troy, He'd love to tan a bear skin rug, oh boy!
  5. I think he's done growing, bulbs are gone. Please let there be an east wind and him show up on Oct 1st 1/2 an hour before dark........
  6. Supposed to light rain all day tomorrow here, about 1/4 of an inch. Should get things moving! I guess there was a quick shower yesterday out there too.
  7. 8/30 is good for me! @Elmo is settling up with Biz for last year?
  8. Got my seed in last night, now it's up to mother nature. Absolutely no rain in the forecast for an entire week. Maybe the dew will be heavy enough help. Even the normally ultra wet plot was a giant dust bowl. Need to thin a few trees near the kill plot and get a bit more light in there.
  9. All that rain disappeared from the forecast. Probably have to just plant and hope the dew is heavy enough to germinate.
  10. Frickin awesome. I think I overcooked them a tad, say maybe 8 minutes a side on the grill next time?
  11. Yeah, I'm a bit torn. Fertilized and then disced it all into the ground on Sunday, doing radishes in one, turnips in another. There hasn't been hardly any rain since Sunday. Maybe I should prep everything on Friday and then plant Sunday evening when we get back from NH?
  12. Just picked up 20 lbs of sausage, half garlic half hot from this little pork shop on Lexington in downtown smallbany. They did a nice job! Dropped off 15 lbs of venison on Tuesday, at least 20 lbs end product done by Friday. I've already had the hot courtesy of a buddy a month ago, it was awesome. Looking forward to getting some of this garlic on the grill. 60 bucks seems like a decent deal? It was the last of my non-ground up venison from last year.
  13. Well that got me right in the feels thinking about my own 2 daughters. Looks like you did a hell of a job!
  14. Anybody do any watering on some of their plots? Supposed to get some rain, maybe, middle of next week. I'd love to get this seed in the ground but it seems pointless without any rain. Probably just give the wildlife 5 days to come through and eat it all. But if I could get get my hands on one of those big water containers, pump it full at the big pond 1/4 mile away, might give it a good enough start? Just grasping at straws at this point I guess.
  15. Where the hell is anybody going to hunt in 4J? The earned buck tag thing is something they do at the alcove. Can't slap a buck tag on anything until you fill the special doe permit they give you.
  16. This badgirl. Many a frog met it's untimely demise.
  17. This is not the weather I'd choose to be doing this in. 89 in the shade at 2000 feet elevation. Nice breeze though. Plots are disced, time to hook up the York rake and get it done. Half an inch of rain in the forecast this week with absolutely nothing else in the extended. Plot next to the blind is in a really wet area, which pays off on years like this. Usually worried about getting stuck, not so much this year.
  18. I have to man up and get discing/fertilizer done tomorrow. Came down with the Rona on Wednesday, just been annoying and making me tired. 2 1/2 acre plots and 2 little kill plots to disc up and fertilize, plant hopefully on the 15th. Thinking 1 turnip, 1 radish, and winter greens. Maybe throw some snow peas in the little plot. Hoping to ateast get a start on the 2 hillside plots this year, at least get them bare + pellet lime and throw some rye in. Family has been on and off quarantine for 2 weeks now and it's killing my timeline.
  19. That's not that same 3 year old spike you've shown us before, is it?
  20. Waiting on the brush hog to get fixed to proceed. Need to disc and fertilize next weekend so we can plan before our wildwood vacation.
  21. Yeah, this. I think of it like footsteps in the snow:. If you reduce you're overall scent, you leave less of a "trail" behind you, and they can't smell you from as far away. But I don't think anything you do, short of maybe those ozone releasing things, is going to keep a big buck or doe from winding you if they're downwind from WELL outside of bow range. So I take reasonable steps:. Scent free bodywash, detergent, and spray my boots down before I go out. Keep the clothes in totes I've wiped down with scent free wipes. You still gotta play the wind.
  22. I haven't seen poults yet at my house, or on the farm on cam. Next year might be a very poor bird season. I did see 3 hens with 0 poults last week at my house.
