Statistics sometimes do lie. Look at that Newsday survey. According to this pole, 96% of respondants say they are opposed to a ban on assault weapons. Even the most adament gun rights guys would have to agree that that number couldn't possibly be accurate. A poll like this could easily have produced false results by having a small handful of people (gun rights advocates in this case) take the poll multiple times.

JOIN THE NRA NOW!!!
virgil replied to Joe Red's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I wonder how much of that letter was already written before the NRA's staged walkout. Keep sending them your money- I'd hate to hear about a bunch of out-of-work lobbyists driving up the unemployment rate. -
The best fruitcake??? Isn't that like being called the tallest midget?

yup you all have to pay for all the teen abortions and SS checks and other "benifits" that the rest of the "poor starving" americans "need" I know you're young and you like to jump on the bandwagon on all these threads, so I'm going to give you a pass on the stupidity of this statement. I was thinking the same thing.

NRA Quits Working with White House
virgil replied to tony m's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This is grandstanding by the NRA. They know that if they are portrayed as being a part of any meaningful discussion on sensible gun laws, they will alienate their hardline supporters. -
This never helps our gun control side.

Exactly. Id rather just hear the facts, leave the opinions and agendas out of it. So you say. But, most of your 'facts' seem to come from Fox News and similar sources. 'Facts' from biased sources are simply propaganda. -

tug on the heart strings of course, cant be a true liberal hatchet piece without that. as opposed to exploiting fear, encouraging paranoia, etc. Choose your poison. Extremists on either side of any issue are still extremists and cannot be reasoned with. -
OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
virgil replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Virgil, send another check in to Cuomo's re-election campaign. Great to have you back after your yearlong hiatus. Did you finish your manifesto? -

virgil replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Joe, Sogaard must hear things in his head that you don't say and reads things you don't type. Riiiight. He's the one that hears voices in his head. Weren't you the one who once said he doesn't use EZ Pass because he doesn't want the government tracking his moves? -
Posted Today, 11:10 AM I wonder what would happen if instead of just discussing gun control we would all go down to albany and inform cuomo that he had better not pass any of these laws if he values his political standing, ect ect.... sorta make a show of force.... ya know.... how many gun owners are there in NY state? if we ALL would show up at the state capital and tell cuomo that its a very bad desision to pass these, WOULD HE CHANGE HIS MIND???? OR would the riot police get called and we would all be gunned down for the "safety" of the people? just wondering?

I agree it is better than it was, but to assert the drop is because fo the gun restricions might be a stretch to prove. There was also a huge clean up effort in crime and organized crime (not counting unions...lol) You have to be very careful when looking at cause and effect. Culver, you're right about assuming cause and effect. But, Steve didn't imply anything as far as I can see. As I recall, the cleanup in NYC involved a general crackdown on vices of all kinds.

Mike Bloomberg, Dianne Feinstein, The Media ect ect ect Need I Go On??? they say that we dont need an ar 15 to hunt and use tragedies like this as reasons they should be banned... I have not read anything from Bloomberg or Feinstein that compares the average gun owner to mass murderers. You are misunderstanding. You are making the leap that because they are in favor of gun control that they believe all gun owners are criminals. That approach may be effective at riling up other gun owners, but it's not based in the truth.

I agree that there are many factors involved and all of them should be considered. Having said that, as far as I know, Hollywood movies are very popular in England and they have about as many gun-related deaths there in a year that we have in a day. So, you can't just blame Hollywood and absolve the issue of availability of guns in this country.

I passed by the rocky point land on my way home from work. as i drove past, i noticed a deer strapped to a carrier on the back of a truck in the parking lot. i turned around and pulled in to take a look. there were actually two deer on the carrier. both very small, no antlers. the hunter was on his way out of the woods carrying his treestand. i also saw a big deer dead on the side of the road on rt 25A about 200yds from the rocky point parking lot with it's head cut off.

With all the patriots on this forum, does nobody have a problem with this statement? I would assume that the hardworking taxpaying members of this forum would be offended.
