A couple of seasons ago, I blew an opportunity at a buck because my pellets had gotten soggy and the gun didn't fire. I had left the gun loaded and stored in my garage for a few weeks. I'm assuming the issue was condensation due to the temperature changes over the course of the few weeks. I want to avoid the same problem again but don't want to deal with firing off a shot at the end of each day or taking out the breach plug and pushing the bullet through if I don't have to. My question is- how does everyone else handle this issue? Do you just fire the shot at the end of the day and reload the next day? Do you remove the bullet manually? Or, should I just store the gun overnight in the truck?

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
virgil replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
that's not why you get confused. -
Getting back to the OP though, I have seen some of the liberal types on this site say that Obummer isnt trying to take our guns. I say he just hasnt tried yet. Good point. Let's not let the fact that he hasn't shown any inclination to do so fool us into believing that he's not planning to. Let's also not let the fact that Bigfoot has never been found be evidence that he doesn't exist.

Can't believe he didn't spook from the rattling so close. Congrats. Great LI deer.

On a side note, the blind calling thing seems to work pretty good when the rut is on, problem lies in the fact that you don't know where they are gonna show up at, and they are lookin for something, intently. Note to self, next time avoid putting scent wick directly under stand. That's exactly right. Happened to me this past weekend. I was blind calling every 40 minutes or so. It was snowing/raining so the ground was damp and quiet. I turned around and had a 6pt staring right at me at 30 yards. Would have been an easy shot. I was completely busted and couldn't move. He stared for a few more seconds, took a few nervous steps away, and then sprinted off. He came in from the one direction that I couldn't see well and was completely silent. Lesson learned. Gotta stay alert and observing 360 degrees when blind calling during the rut.

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
virgil replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The part of the original statement that was racist was implying that the President, who is black, was in cahoots with the Black Panthers- not stating that they were at the polls. -
Was that deer taken on Long Island?

It only took 8 responses for Early to drop the race card, and his guy won!! Classic not yet, he is getting the black panthers together to start collecting them. First he has to get them away from the polling places. I think the card had already been played. -
What do you keep in a daypack for the woods????

Was curious how long it would take for someone to fire the first shot. -

Good advice so far. Bring layers- you will get sweaty. The quickest way to get cold is to sit in the cold after getting all sweaty on the way in. If you're hunting here in Suffolk, you're not ever gonna be too far from a road. Don't bother with all the survival gear. -
We got clobbered down here on Long Island. My hunting camp is in the Cortland area. Can anyone give me an idea about how things were up there? I have no idea if my cabin/shack will still be there when I get up there. Hope everyone made out okay.

NY Liberalism explained
virgil replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If any of you think democracy is going to save you, perhaps consider mental health care: democracy is demagoguery, or using pleasant and/or scary images to browbeat the population into reacting in knee-jerk ways. Really? You all agree with this statement? And, don't mistake 'not arguing with the post' for agreeing with it. Certain posts from certain posters are better ignored than acknowledged. -
Trump makes Obama an offer...
virgil replied to SteveNY's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Responding toTrump's 'offer', like all his other birther nonsense is beneath the office of the President. Trump is shrewd enough to know this and to use it to his advantage by making believe that his being ignored is evidence that he's on to something. All he's after is publicity and he uses his radical clown followers for his own purposes. -

My Weekend (Subtitled: Upstate folk have it easy!)
virgil replied to Sogaard's topic in Deer Hunting
Cool thread. I live on long island and my hunting shack is 292 miles away. I've gotten used to making the five hour drive at night after work, arriving in camp at 2am, sleeping for an hour or two, and heading out. I've also made the trip up and back in a day more times than I can count- leave my house at 4am, spend a few hours in the woods hanging stands, setting cameras, target shooting, fixing up the cabin- then, getting back in the car and heading home so I can be there when my son wakes up in the morning. Coffee and chewing tobacco help get me through the ride. I've had to pull over on the side of Rt 80 a few times with leg cramps due to the long hours in the car, the hiking up and down the mountains, the climbing of trees, and the effects of the coffee and chewing tobacco. All that said, can't wait to head upstate this Friday night. -
New hunters need to be prepared for "after the shot"
virgil replied to PWGUNNY's topic in Deer Hunting
Good post and good advice. I usually hunt alone and my land is hilly, thick, and wet. I keep a plastic sled at the cabin to make dragging a deer a whole lot easier. I've heard that there are more fatalities dragging deer out of the woods than treestand accidents and accidental shootings combined. -
Congrats. Great shot.

Obama's record on gun control
virgil replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
No let me put on my tin foil hat. With Obama's ties to Chicago, does anyone think he didn't know about this? And so what if he did? Are you asking if he knew about it or are you suggesting that he's behind it? Just what we need, another conspiracy theory. -
Maybe another comparable is grass-fed vs. grain-fed beef.

Sogaard, you're going to go nuts if you insist on rebutting every silly statement on this topic. A closed or narrow mind is impervious to facts and logic. -
Obama's record on gun control
virgil replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Fear-mongering sells guns and Obama-haters can't be bothered questioning whether there's any truth to it or if Romney is actually any more or less 'gun-friendly'.
