Makes sense. Thanks guys for the info.

I was telling a friend of mine that I was thinking about cutting some firewood upstate this spring and bringning it home to Long Island. He told me that it's illegal to transport firewood. Does anyone know if this is true?

New York is one of 5 States to extend school hours and days

MXSMITZ- I don't even know where to start. Are you actually saying that we'd be better off by not encouraging our kids to get an education? Also, what trades are you referring to that pay $120k 'straight out of high school'? -

Thug- yes, like any other investment, there will be upfront costs. And, yes, it will take years before we see a return on our investment. But, a commitment to education will result in a more highly skilled work force and a better future for our kids. It doesn't do anyone any good to complain about a problem and then shoot down any attempts to address the problem. -

No. To use your analogy, extending the school day does not simply give the mechanic more time to work on the same problem, it gives him more time to work on other problems after solving the first. -

The primary reason that our children are struggling compared to kids in Asian and European countries is because in those countries, education is considered a priority in society and, more importantly, at home. The responses on this thread show the our problem. We recognize that we're falling behind, but complain that adding time in the classroom will wear the kids out and make the problem worse. -
I'd like to report a hijacking....

Either way, I'd say just be patient. Give it him an hour before tracking. With that snow on the ground, you'll have no trouble tracking him.

That guy sounds like a dick. I agree with joe12. Noone shoots just to get a deer to move. He shot and missed and then tried to make you feel that your deer is a good one for you, but not good enough for him. Anyway, congrats.

Will be leaving the office around 11, heading home for a quick shower, pack the car, and hit the road. Can't wait. Had this same excitement every season since I was 16 years old. Good luck to all.

I can see the appeal of a lease since you're not committed long term if the hunting turns out not to be any good. But, in the five years that I've owned my 20acre piece, I've never been happier and never enjoyed hunting more. The hunting has been decent and I've enjoyed not having the anxiety of not having a definite hunting spot each year. Unless you own a massive piece of land, you can always encounter other hunters, either on private or state land.

That sucks. In the past five years I've had a climber stolen out of public land (which was only left in the woods a few hours) and a camera stolen off my own posted land.

Wow. Loads of postings on this thread in the last day or two. Congrats to everyone.

Mine was a small buck at about 40 yards. It was my last hunting day of that season. At first, I was gonna pass on him because he was a small 6pt. Then, I reminded myself of all the trips I had made upstate without taking a deer and decided to take the shot. Just a sad 'pfffft' sound, a puff of smoke, and the bullet landing in the snow about 3 ft from my tree. I was pretty bummed. Not something I want to repeat, especially since I'm still looking for my first deer with the ML.

My CVA Wolf had condensation issues last season, and I left it in the garage overnight. It was with 777 pellets, and I had a very underwhelming discharge....lol. I think the doe laughed at me and walked off. This is exactly what happened to me.

I think my problem was that the weather that year was all over the place- lots of warm days and cold days. The gun was in the garage and probably went through a few freeze/thaw cycles.
-
I was hoping for a little colder, but can't complain. I'm looking forward to my first non-rainy trip upstate since the spring.

How many lives have been saved by car registration? ZERO. On average, over 30,000 people get killed in cars every year. Dammit, I think we might consider banning certain makes! Noone said that the point of registering cars is to save lives. The system of car registration was being used as an example. Not the reason. The point of gun registration would be to establish a papertrail of ownership and ensure that the after-market sales maintain the trail.

I'd have to tweak this because I really haven't put much thought into it( I just woke up), and besides I just wanted to see if I could go into my head to try to create and understand paranoid thoughts( a brain exercise)... It's a trap. Paranoids are too happy to believe the nonsense of other paranoids and also quick to confuse being ignored with having proven a point. Then, also quick to pat themselves and other paranoids on the back for 'winning an argument'. A trap-one that I fall into much too often.
