Iran has denied even working toward building a nuclear bomb. When did they make threats to blow another country off the map with one?
-
So, it's okay to 'control' certain types of weapons if you feel that the owner or potential owner of those weapons has dangerous intentions? Is that right?
-
Right. And nuclear weapons don't cause nuclear war, right? So, what's all the fuss about Iran for?
-
Thanks everyone for the advice. Always helpful.

Wooffer, the only thing to learn from you is that you're a phony and a blowhard. That's been obvious from the start. Guys like you are part of the problem, not the solution- you think that bellyaching about the problem will produce a solution. If you get upset when I counter your nonsense and rhetoric, too bad. You can always send private messages to Dave instead. -

It's quite okay with me that two guys who can't spell, can't write, and can't put together an intelligent thought agree with each other in their dislike for me. -

Culver. Also, what if you couldn't afford the voucher? Should your child be denied an education? I think that systems that are designed to serve society in general can often look 'unfair' when applied to the individual. -

I have a child. but you have hit on one of my pet peeves. Why do/should we expect people without children to pay for the education of our children? I believe the society as a whole will benefit from a quality education of our children but is it fair that they pay for my daughter? I think you answered your own question. Most people agree that the future of a country depends on the education of its' youth. -

Dave, your response, as always, is a waste of space. It's not my problem if you can't keep up with this thread or my posts. -

How do you condone a $300 a month increase in school taxes. Not $300 a year but a month???? I never said i condone it. Our taxes on LI are insane. -

The bottom line is that I would only pay $8,400.- If the private school gets funds from other benefactors that is willing donated then their is no comparison to a school district that over charges the tax payers, So, as you stated, you're only concerned with how much it's costing you. My guess is that you're school taxes are less than $8,400. So, what are you complaining about? Even if you didn't have to pay those school taxes, it would cost you more to send your kids to private school. And, with private schools, you pay that $8400 for each child of yours who attends. You can send however many kids you have to public schools without paying any more in taxes. You've got a bug up you a** about teachers. Where would we be without them? I hunt with a couple of guys who are teachers- they're good guys who work hard. And they have to put up with the bad attitudes and bad behavior of kids whose parents fill their heads with all this anti-teacher nonsense. -

Oh, right. You're more interested than 'convenient truths' than actual truths. What a phony. -

Until you can account for the total cost that those private schools incur per student- not just the tuition cost that the parents pay- then you're not making a fair comparison. But, my guess is you're really not interested in a fair comparison. Find out how much the church contributes to the overall cost of operating the school. -

Wooffer, you don't know anything- you only pretend that you do. The district i was referring to was East Islip. And, no, I don't live in Middle Island. My guess is that many of those private schools are privately funded- such as by the Catholic Church. So, it's not a matter of 'where that money goes', it's a matter of where it comes from. -

I work in a small community hospital. Basically, the mandate is 'do more with less'. In general, reimbursement for medical services goes down every year. And now, we're being faced with a plan that will reimburse in full only if facilities meet certain benchmarks on 'customer satisfaction'-type surveys. Every time a position is vacated, it's a struggle for me to get permission to re-hire that position. So, in a nutshell, we're supposed to work harder and see more patients for the same or less money; and do this with less staff; and maintain a high level a customer satisfaction while doing so. -

I'm not a teacher and don't work for a school district. I just think that you're trying to take shots at teachers, and you're actually doing more harm to the kids. The districts have to pay those salaries regardless of whether or not the budget is passed. -

Not sure where on Long Island you guys live. But, in the town where i grew up, the budget has been voted down frequently over the past 20 years. Before that, it was always approved. In the last 20 years, the quality of the district has suffered. The kids have to play to take part in sports and other after-school activities. There are more kids in each class, less supplies, and poorly kept facilities. In the past, the high quality school district was always part of the town's allure- and kept property values high. Now, the schools are in decline and everyone's suffering. Voting down school budgets is not a solution to higher teacher salaries- it's vengeful and short-sighted. -
I'm still relatively new to turkey hunting. I'm thinking about buying a few decoys for this coming season. Do you guys use them or recommend using them? If so, do you recommend a particular setup and a particular brand/type of decoy?

if you are looking for sympathy, as my father would say, it's in the dictionary between shit and sweat. Really, I will say something you have gaull. Your dad's dictionary was wrong. It's actually a few pages after sweat. Just sayin'. -
100% real hunting is any one of us walking into the deep woods, freezing our behinds off, and having more of a chance of seeing chickadees goofing off in the bushes than seeing a group of monster bucks eating apples...... So true. Perfectly said.

You have to agree that if a responsible adult who is trained in handling a firearm was legally armed then this and other tragedies like this one would not occur. Yes, i would agree with that. But, since there is no way to guarantee that a gun will stay in the hands of a responsible and trained adult once it leaves the store(as this case proves), I believe that there needs to be more control of them.
-
Maybe we should let the students carry- so they can protect themselves. Maybe we should keep guns with the fire extinguishers so that all anyone has to do is 'break the glass' if the need arises.
-
How do you feel about metal detectors in schools? Couldn't that have prevented this tragedy with anyone getting hurt?
