  1. I got a 4pt on opening day in 7R.
  2. 2011-11-19_11-09-03_553.jpg Not sure if I know how to post a pic- if I screwed it up, I'll try again. Got this big-bodied/small racked 4pt Saturday at 9:30am. I hesitated as to whether or not to shoot because I know there are a few real good ones in the area. But, I reminded myself that last year I passed on a few smaller bucks and finished the season empty handed. So, my four day hunt last all of a few hours. Guess I've got a slight case of shooter's remorse.
  3. I don't think that this is a bow vs. gun thing. It's just a matter of guys not having any ethics.
  4. Wow. Sounds like an ordeal. I was hoping it'd be simple. thanks.
  5. I saw on another thread that someone mentioned that they use their smartphones to view their trailcam photos without having to remove the sd cards. Can anyone tell me- other than the usb cable, is there anything else I need; like some kind of app?
  6. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/wild-turkeys-staten-island-multiplying-grouchy-article-1.974879 We have turkey hunting now on Long Island, maybe Staten Island is not far behind???
  7. Maybe a lot of guys are off today for election day- I saw about six of the numbered sites had trucks parked in them on the way in to work this morning.
  8. I agree. He's a little whacky. But, I find his show relates much more to the average hunter than most of the others on tv.

    Snow?

I'm heading up to the Cortland area tomorrow night to hunt Wednesday and Thursday. Can anyone tell me how much snow is on the ground?
  10. I've had a few different climbers over the years and have found that all of them make at least some noise. If the noise occurs when you stand up, it's probably due to the tension on the cable that attaches the platform to the tree. When you're sitting, try to keep some of your weight on the platform instead of having it all on the seat.
  11. phade, i just checked this thread and when i read the original post i thought the exact same thing. that guy is not a hunter, he's a salesman.
  12. thanks again for all the advice. i'm looking forward to making it a project for the spring.
  13. Thanks WNY. But, I'm not that patient. I'm hoping for a quicker result. I'll look into buying a couple that might start to produce within a few years.
  14. thanks guys for all the great feedback. the crab apple route sounds good. i live on long island- i don't recall ever seeing them for sale locally. i'd imagine they can be special ordered.
  15. My land is mostly sloped and somewhat soggy. But, there are a few wide trails that cut across the land that are drier. I'd love to plant a few apple trees as a 'food plot' in the spring. But, I honestly know very little about planting and don't have know if this is a good idea. Before I spend the cash and hump a bunch of trees up the mountain, I was wondering if anyone could share some insight. Are apple trees expensive? Does this idea sound ridiculous?
  16. Before you do anything else, you should look into signing up to take the hunter safety course. You'll have to complete the course in order to buy a license.
  17. no, i understand that emergencies can happen. i just got the impression that it was part of regular practice for some of the guys that were posting.
  18. All the comments about toilet paper and wipes- do you guys really crap in the woods? Oh, I just remembered last night to put the eazy pass in the truck for the ride upstate- i usually keep it in the other car.
  19. Good luck. Hope you find him before the rain starts. Don't beat yourself up too much. If you didn't feel bad about it, you shouldn't be hunting. We've all had these situations happen to us. Keep at it, you'll find him.

    Numbered Sites

I haven't hunted on LI for a couple of years and would like to get back into it. I pass a bunch of the numbered sites on 25A, Fresh Pond Road, and Route 24. Have any of you guys hunted these spots? If so, is it worth it?
  21. As a bitter Mets fan, I couldn't be happier. Now I can focus on football, hockey, and hunting.
  22. I agree with StripedBuck. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. I was just at my land in the southern zone, Finger Lakes region this past weekend to scout and hang stands. I didn't have any rubs or scrapes yet. I usually don't start seeing them until after the first good cold spell. I did see a fair number of tracks.
  23. i've been finding that i have to hit the back arrow 2-3 times in order to page back. not sure if it's just me.
