I'm looking forward to him explaining the suggestion that arming teachers is the way to go.

Still waiting for the more gun control argument . . . You're waiting for it? Or, are you trying to start it- this is your second attempt to introduce the subject.
-
Would stricter gun laws have stop this, I say No. Of course not. As clearly stated earlier in this thread- the solution to gun crimes is....more guns.

Shoot the dirt and go jail.

interesting stuff. not sure how i feel about the 2nd part- doesn't that seem like a change that reduces the punishment for committig a gun crime? many anti-gun-control guys make the point that stricter enforcement of existing gun laws is the best solution to reduce gun crimes. this seems to take it in the opposite direction. -

I agree in principle with everyone on this thread. But, these aren't gun laws we're talking about- at least as far as i can tell. Nothing has been mentioned about the legality of the man's ownership of his guns. The issue was with how and where he used them. If the burglar was unarmed and was climbing out a neighbor's window, how was this man 'defending himself'? There's a fine line between 'protecting yourself' and 'vigilante justice'. What if the burglar was armed and returned fire, injuring the other man? He would probably be able to make a case that he was defending himself. All that being said, i hope the guy is cleared of the charges and gets his guns back. -
contractors "salesmen" with high pressure tactics
virgil replied to Red's topic in General Chit Chat
Is anyone on this forum a contractor? That price of $32k or even $24k seems insane. With the proper equipment (scaffolding or whatever), and a crew of just three or four guys, I don't think this should be more than a two or three day job. -

rent scaffolding if you can. it's safer than a ladder and will save you hours and hours. -

i did my entire house myself. fyi- the cost of materials was about $4500. that estimate sounds really high. -
This guy should not be handling a pistol . . .

'Liberal media slant'??? Did you read the article? There's no slant whatsoever. The article simply reports what happened. Why does that seem to offend you guys? -

Maybe the Jets should sign him. -
No. They just spent over a billion dollars to build the new stadium in Jersey that just opened last season.

How much will it take?
virgil replied to Skillet's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Steve. You're probably right. But, i think the point is- and this is what a lot of the big-time gun rights guys feel- criminals don't buy their guns legally. The problem is that these types of guns are produced legally, but somehow wind up in the wrong hands. It's for this reason that I can see an eventual ban. -

I know that there are plenty of guys who feel differently. But, I don't think we're in danger of losing the right to bear arms either. I do think that there will eventually be restrictions on assault-type weapons. -

Here we go again. -
Love the trail cam pix of the sheep under a feeder in a pen. Looks like a challenging hunt.
-
I have to ask- why are you all bothering with this guy? If you do ignore him, he'll probably just go away.
-
I've never done the standby thing before. What do you have to do?

We were out yesterday in Point Lookout. The brant were flying, just not cooperating. We got one brant and one black. Kind of a lame way to end the season. Last weekend, we had a great day in the snow/ice.

President's Hit Squad strikes again!

I'm sure virgil would have jumped on a "George Bush gets Suddam Hussein" thread... but thats ok... liberals are exempt from hypocracy. Not true. Go back to sleep. -
No, not that I'm aware of in my immediate area. Definitely heard stories about them being in Cortland County.
-
Definitely a canned hunt. My land is up in that area and i think i remember their name being mentioned as one of the places responsible for the wild boar in the area as a result of a few escapees.

Oh, i get it. Very clever. The best jokes usually do require an explanation. -

.Too bad the clowns always show up and ruin an otherwise decent thread. By the way, genius, is it really the '1%' who are at the 'occupy' protests? -

...and the sign of a childish hypocrit is the tendency to assign blame when convenient while refusing to give credit when due. -

I knew that sooner or later one of the yahoos wouldn't be able to sit quietly while the President got any credit for this, or anything else for that matter. Although, if the mission had been a disaster, I'm sure that you'd be placing the responsibility solely with the commander in chief. Can't always have it both ways.
