  1. Wow! talk about shaking things up, Early. This should get interesting. BTW, couldn't agree more.
  2. Picture this-Penn station this afternoon around 6:00, 90 degrees waiting for the train. Once you get on it's air conditioned but the people smell! Sucks for me. That is hot! Ugh, I still have flashbacks of commuting in the city. Penn is bad enough. But, i remember waiting for the R, N, 6, and 7 trains and it could easily be well over 110 degrees in those subways. And then, you cram into the train cars with all the other cranky, sweaty, smelly people. I do not miss that.
  3. I hunt mostly in Nassau County and have been checked by DEC many times- at least once or twice per season. They check to see that your plug is in and that you're using steel shot instead of lead.
  4. I applied and didn't get picked also. There were no mentions about the Wertheim hunt on this forum last season.
  5. I agree with Steve B. That was the point I was trying to make a few days ago.
  6. This one is in the Guides and Outfitters section, where it belongs. OK. Fair point. I wasn't intending to pile on. This type of hunt is not for me. To each his own.
  7. Just my opinion- but, I think that threads like this one should be in the 'classifieds' section since the original post was a sales pitch and not really a discussion topic. Debates about high fences and canned hunts are interesting. But, there already areas on the forum for that.
  8. It does sound like a biceps tendon injury- if there is pain/swelling, weakness in elbow flexion, and if the biceps muscle is retracted upward toward the shoulder. Don't wait- see a doctor (an orthopedist).
  9. I'll answer. They were allowed becuse this used to be a free country. They were needed because workers were being mistreated by the politicians just as the private sector workers were being mistreated by thier bosses when they were ALLOWED to form unions for their protection. That would've been my guess- they were formed to protect the workers from the big mean government. And now, the government is being applauded for beating back the big bad union. Next, in a couple of years, we'll be hearing about how the big bad government balanced it's books on the backs of it's lowly employees.

Let me guess- you were probably on the third fairway on the red course, right? If you're on that fairway around dusk, they come out of the treeline in droves.
  12. I think the best advice so far is to pick the gun that feels most comfortable and fits your budget. You mention that your shooting needs work. If so, I'd go with the 30-30 or 35 as opposed to the 06- simply because the lighter recoil will probably make you more comfortable practicing and sighting in and should make you a better shot. Doesn't matter what gun you're carrying if you're not able to shoot it accurately.
  13. You should be careful- are you allergic to bee stings? If you're headache and lightheadedness are serious, you should go to an emergency room.
  14. My father in law recently had to retire from the carpenter's union because there was no work. His local was disbanded recently due to a long history of corruption. Now, his health insurance has been slashed due to the union's financial problem. He never saw it coming.
  15. Sounds like the pressure is coming more from the labor unions than the state, no?
  16. I'm heading up to 7R tonight to hunt the weekend. Hoping to see some birds in the morning and some trout in the afternoon.
  17. OK, thanks for the advice. I'm heading up tomorrow night for the weekend. Appreciate the help.
  18. The author says to 'call sparingly'. How frequently does that mean to you all- every 5 minutes, 10? 20?
  19. How do you know that? And, if you're correct, then why is he constantly doing interviews about all this stuff? It's not because of his music. It's because he's generally viewed as representing gun owners and hunters.
  20. The point is that the public thinks that he does represent us all. And, when they see him ranting and raving and acting like a nut, the image of all hunters and gun owners suffers.
  21. Well said, Scot. Now prepare for the blowback.
  22. I've had my land for four years and up until last week hadn't really had any problems. I'm surround by state forest land. I hunted last Wed/Thur. Wednesday morning, we got in the woods well before light and hunted just off the edge of my land in the state property. After setting up, I noticed a flashlight in the woods behind me- over on or very near my property. I shined my light in that direction and quickly his light went out and I never saw anyone. We came out of the woods about 10am and drove up the forest road where we saw a truck parked. There was a man and woman in the truck, in camo. I asked if they were having any luck. At exactly the same time, the man said 'no' and the woman said 'we're just getting here'. That seemed fishy. We drove off and noticed that the truck left right after we did. My guess is that the flashlight I saw earlier in the morning was one of theirs. Then, we got back to my camp and heard what we thought was a few birds calling pretty close to the cabin. We quickly got our gear together and headed back in the woods, only to find another hunter set up about ten yards off my property line and calling while facing my land. I asked him if he was the guy I saw in the woods earlier in the morning. Of course he said, 'No, just got here'. Sorry for the long post. It's just frustrating to know that there's basically nothing I can do about it and there's probably guys set up on my property right this moment. I have only 20 acres and I'm surround by thousands of acres of state forest. Why is my light speck of land suddenly so popular with the locals? Ugh!!!
  23. How about jerky? Any try making it out of turkey?
  24. I'm hoping for some suggestions as to how to cook wild turkey. I have beautiful looking breast filets and can't wait to cook them up. It's easy to find venison recipes. But, I'm finding it hard to find any recipes for wild turkey. Any help would be appreciated.
