Heaviest I have saw in person was 267 dressed, shot outside of Indian lake. But he was shot opening weekend of rifle. That buck would have been maybe 220 by mid November. There is no official records in NY on weight because we do not have mandatory check stations like Maine does. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My super cheap trail markers

I like the white ones better as well. I like the fact that i can put them at the base of trees so I don’t have to swing my light around to find them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

On a soft rope yes, on a hard slippery branch I don’t think they’ll hold near as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

They look like they’ll blow off the first storm. I’ve used these for ever, I have these sticking to trees miles back in the ADK’s marking water crossings and other landmarks. 2$ for 50, Last forever, super cheap and can see them for a long ways off! I keep them in a pill bottle in my fanny pack with some cotton so they don’t make any noise. 25-30 fits in a Tylenol bottle perfect! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The area of “big woods” you hunt is vastly different from any big woods hunting I’ve done. Never shot a buck in the adk’s that had corn in them. My heaviest adk buck you could count every rib on and his hind end was skin and bone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would agree with you on the tasting better part but disagree with you on your theory of bucks being unable to get to 200lbs on the bark and prickles diet. Of my 5 200+lb adk bucks all of them came a long long ways from any agriculture and everyone was shot more than 5 miles from a paved road. Time of year has a lot more to do with shooting one 200lbs than diet. Most 200lb adk bucks are shot in October before the rut starts. All of mine have been shot after the 15th of November and my 10 was shot in December the last weekend of rifle. 8pt weighed 207 shot on nov 20 10pt weighed 203 shot dec3rd8pt killed nov 17 weighed 209 top right rack is a 10pt I shot nov 24 weighed 213 bottom right 8 weighed 227 shot nov 18. Didn’t mean to come across as “deriding” however I stand by my point of not worrying about hypothermia while dragging, usually just the opposite I’m usually worried about overheating and dehydration. Proper dragging clothes and hunting clothes differ greatly. Usually I’m dragging in a T shirt or undershirt or no shirt at all. I’m very considerate and well prepared for hypothermia as I always have 3 forms of fire starting and space blanket on me. I am still curious how many deer you have killed in the big woods and if your input comes from experience or ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Haha, I have to imagine that anyone that shoots a buck 5+ miles from a road has their sh!t together way before the shot is fired. I’m willing to bet that the first mile from the road separates 95+% of the hunters. I’m curious to know how many deer you have killed more than a mile from a road? In all my long drags I’ve been worried about a lot of things, hypothermia has never been one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think so, I hate mucks because they feel sloshy on my ankles! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Those look heavy!!! I couldn’t imagine wearing them. What’s your guys problem with rubber boots? If it’s not super cold these are all I wear. I haven’t found a better boot for still hunting yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The big difference is you say “we” I’m assuming that means you have others helping you drag? I don’t like hunting with others so most of the time I’m on my own. I am 30yrs old a little over 6ft and about 225lbs I would consider myself in pretty darn good shape but I’m man enough to admit that dragging a 180+ pound deer for anything over a couple miles isn’t something I’m ever going to do again. I have packed enough out to know that it’s much easier. Walking out with 80-100lbs of meat and a head and cape is so much nicer than dragging! That being said I still would much rather drag them because I enjoy having a whole deer hanging on the meat pole to admire until I cut it up. But sometimes that’s just not in the cards. I’m 30 and have owned 18 that I can remember. Half of the fun of Bowhunting for me is getting new bows and getting them to shoot perfect, spending time in my basement tuning a new bow is something I enjoy just as I enjoy reloading and getting rifles to shoot their best. That is one sweet shooting bow! It was between that and the realm for me this year ended up with the realm but I sure did like the prime! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

These are often brought up in these conversations and in 20+ yers of hunting the Adirondacks I’ve known of two being used. Both cases were not for the actual drag back to camp but from camp/tent to the truck in cases where there was a good road that was not accessible, locked gate, or limited use, etc. I use them around home once in a while and they’re nice but I couldn’t imagine trying to drag one miles back in over mountains through swamps and bogs when it was empty! Let alone when it has a big buck on it. One thing a lot of people don’t realize is that the guys that are hunting miles from the closest road aren’t going to shoot a small buck! No one puts in all that work to shoots 100lb spike horn. I don’t know why but 180-200lb bucks drag so much harder than your average 125-150lb deer.

A little snow makes a world of difference, but long drags on bare ground can be brutal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a Benelli m4 by the bed and a Remington 7615 pump .223 handy in the bedroom, a Glock 20 on the nightstand. A Glock 29 in the living room and whatever I have in my pocket or my belt on me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I sadly retired my beaglewear pants last year do to the crotch being completely gone. It was a very sad day for me those pants and I killed a lot of bucks together and went many miles. I still have the jacket that’s like new I have only worn it a few times too heavy for me for hunting but wear it around the house once in a while. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
