  1. I’ll be out around the house. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. My first Xbow was a Barnett around 2007. I had so many issues with it that I didn’t even sell it when I replaced it after only a year. Their customer service was awful and their product was terrible. It was an impulse buy and I should have done more research because after I bought it and started having issues when I started digging around for info I found a lot of bad reviews and complaints. Big problem right now is the time of year, all outdoor company’s are swamped! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Nothing on the agenda for tonight so I walked out to a low impact stand sitting in a T-shirt wishing I didn’t wear a shirt at all. Oh well hopefully stick a coyote with the crossbow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. 90+% of all issues with Remington autos is magazine related. I have worked on 20 or 30 of them and have owned better than 10 all issues were fixed with magazine adjustments unless something was broken. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. It’s funny how people that hunt the same way often use the same setups. I probably have 50 deer rifles and like using different guns all the time but when it gets to be the middle of November and it’s time to get serious I either have a 7600 35whelen carbine with a Leopold vx6 1-6 or a when it’s raining or snowing a 760 in 35 rem with a peep gets the call. 6. That a great point Moog, I have some pretty good shots but by far my most memorable was on an 8pt I shot still hunting in the ADK’s with the bow! Buck was bedded down below me and I couldn’t get any closer as soon as I released the arrow I knew it was perfect, watching the nocturnal disappear behind his shoulder in the 10ring is one of my favorite hunting memories and a shot that I replay in my head constantly! 7. A lot of people used them, a lot of people killed deer with them. The problem with them is that you can’t get a cheekweld and see through the scope. It forces you to have to float your face and try to find the scope costing time and accuracy, scope shadow becomes a big issue! Another big problem with them is that it kills you in low light scenarios if you wanted to use the irons because you’re looking through a tunnel at irons. Another problem when trying to use iron sights is that it takes away one of the biggest attributes of using iron sights, the open sight picture when tracking a moving deer while looking through the sights because of the tunnel vision. The only good part about see through mounts is that they make the scope into an excellent carrying handle. You’re worried about weight, there’s an easy way to shave a lb take that scope and mount off and spent 20$ and mount a Williams peep on it and you’ll have an excellent walkabout adk gun! Also ditch that heavy leather sling and takes those sling swivels off they’re well known for squeaking and rattling at the worst times, if you think you need a sling a section of 550 cord with loops on both ends works perfect for when you’re dragging other wise leave it in the pack or pocket. Slings get caught on way too much crap when trying to sneak through the woods! One piece of advice I’ll give you on the 7400 is make sure it’s clean but don’t put any oil near the firing pin! They’re well known for humming up when it’s cold if oiled and you’ll get light primer strikes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Oh dear god, of course it has see through scope mounts.🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. 180yds running at a good clip quartering at me through the woods in the Adirondacks, 35whelen tikka t3. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Haha, coffee across the table! Thanks bud! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. So sad! My heart goes out to all that are involved! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I’ll admit to going against the grain, slight quartering to yes, hold behind shoulder get a lung and liver dead deer every time lots of blood, hard quartering to hold in front of shoulder bottom1/3 heart a lung and liver even without exit plenty of blood dead deer. I won’t shoot if the angle would force me to aim at shoulder for vitals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Last reply to this thread as I can’t take it anymore, At 70yds a bead covers most of the deer, refer back to my last post. You’re correct a very few guys kill deer still hunting with bows in the big woods, I have done it twice. Not sure what this has to do with your choice in the shotgun but I bet 100$ I’ll shoot a better 5 shot group with my bow at 70yds than you can with this shotgun. If you want to hike miles in to hunt small game have at it, the old saying about trying to get two leads to getting none comes to mind. Yes, everyone knows deer can be killed with shotguns! Years ago many of us on here had to use them. I don’t know of anyone that still used a shotgun in rifle zones unless for sentimental reasons. Enjoy your hunt, I wish you the best of luck. Please put more rational thought into staying safe than you have your weapon choice. Let me know if you’re interested in losing the 100$ I’m even willing to travel, I don’t go back to work until dec 18th so I have plenty of time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. From someone who’s walked hundreds of miles toting closets full of guns different in the dacks a single shot smoothbore 12ga would be my last choice. I have killed bucks up there with single shot rifles and muzzleloaders and would pick them before you’re choice. Hunting up there is a challenge and any buck is a trophy, you give up too much and don’t gain enough. The biggest problem with the shotgun is the bead, covers too much you won’t see the branch or the twig between you and him, the range is another big factor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Weight is the third most important part of a gun for a gun you’re going to be carrying a lot.number one is being able to put 3 bullets in a pie plate in under 5 seconds from a carry position at 50yds. Obviously those times and distances are arbitrary but it’s a test I do that I think is very practical for the type of hunting you want to try. Waiting for the broadside shot isn’t going to happen most shot opportunity’s will be at moving likely running deer. Often the first shot hits a branch or just misses the mark it might be hours or days before I catch back up to that deer and I want as many holes in him as possible to up my odds that he dies quickly. Number two is how well the gun carries I would rather carry a 7.5lb perfectly balanced rifle than a 4lb rifle that doesn’t balance and carry well. A single shot isn’t going to do that. A bolt is capable in the right hands, semis are a good option as long as they’re reliable. I wish my Bennelli R1 was balanced better it’s nice and light but sucks to carry. Pumps and levers are both good options. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. What semi do you have that’s 8lbs scoped? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. 8lb semi carbine. Are these weights with scopes and loaded or bare guns? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Turnips and clover and fresh chopped corn with an oak ridge to my left. Have the girlfriend in the blind with me. Got a ton of everything pictures in this plot for 6-dark. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. One piece of advice I will give you is plan your trip to be hunting on the 20th of November! I think I have killed all but 3 bucks within 5 days of the 20th. Good rut activity and a good chance of snow. If I could only hunt 5 days in the adks it would be the 17-22 of November. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. See ya!! Likely won’t be missed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The other day my daughter was going on and on complaining about doing chores and jokingly I said “call someone who cares, here’s a quarter” and flipped her a quarter. She looked at me confused and said “what’s the quarter for??” Took me a second to realize that she has no idea what a pay phone is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. That’s a long drive to see Boston get beat, at least you’ll have that 8pt to think about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Hotel is a good idea, also keeps you mobile. It’s common for me to travel 50-100 miles a morning chasing the right conditions within the dacks. I have a camp but don’t hunt bear it very often, just use it as a base camp and travel to the conditions I want if they’re available. There are deer everywhere if I get the right conditions the odds of me killing them is on my side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. The odds of you waking up there and shooting a deer are very very slim. The saying that 90% of the deer are killed by 10% of the hunters is very true in the ADKs. Success rate is very low but the few that kill them usually kill them regularly. My cousin built our camp in 2001 hunted up there for 3 weeks a year every year and killed his first buck last year. He spends daylight until dark in the woods, and hunts any conditions. I bought into the camp in 2014 and have killed 3 mature bucks up there. The key to hunting the adks is having the right gear “as little as possible” because if you’re tired after walking a half mile because you’re carrying a ton of shit you don’t need will hinder you and being able to capitalize on your chances because you won’t have many! Most successful adk hunters cover ground and know what to look for. It’s common for me to hunt for 2 weeks and never see a deer then see 4 or 5 bucks in a morning. Deer are in pockets during the rut the problem is there may be 10 miles between pockets. I shot my first adk buck at an age I won’t admit to on the internet and have killed 11 bucks since turning 16 and I’m 30 now, 9 of those bucks were 3 1/2 or older. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Nice, next time I have it out I’ll post a pic, sub 1” groups 6lb 6oz without scope 16.5” barrel. It’s the sweetest gun I’ve ever owned!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
