  1. From my experience in the dessert where an 60-70 degree change in 8hrs is common the temps affect the powder more than the barrel or the scope mounts. as far as the muzzeloaders go if mine is loaded its stored outside it never goes in and out of the heated house or camp. I have never had a sabot slide in a cold barrel but I had it happen with powerbelts twice.
  2. I have my Glock 29 register as a 10mm and again as a 40cal for the same reason.
  3. I have one in 35rem, fun toy but to me impractical for hunting too heavy and big to be a pistol and very difficult to shoot freehand so if moving you have to find a rest and or carry sticks. Add the gun and the sticks and I'm carrying more weight than one of my tikka's. If you have a solid rest they are not difficult to shoot so the pistol challenge isn't really there either. I wanted one for a while got a deal on mine I will never get rid of it because they are cool just not for me.
  4. Must be I'm the only one who owns one.
  5. You know me pyg. It's only got an 18" barrel and my Carlson isn't the tightest it's actually about the same constriction as a full. I get a beautiful 8" pattern at 25 yds. With a fixed 2x leupold it doesn't give me any excuses. I have chased a couple wounded birds before I got my sh*t together and it's not fun. With my 870 setup they usually only flop once.
  6. On a side note if your getting another choke I have tried a lot and nothing has worked as well with the Carlsons.
  7. My old trusty 870 youth 20 with a slip on recoil pad for a little extra length of pull is my go 2 and has been since I was 12. Have a lot of other "turkey guns" and none are as much fun to carry as the youth 20.
  8. That's why I said "IF" you use 2-3. I have never shot a turkey over 25 yds and don't plan on it. If I shoot a couple 15 and like what I see I'll shoot at 25 then I know I'm good. In my opinion if your shooting much over 25 you shouldn't be using a 20ga and any of the turkey loads will kill at that range but in my 15 years of killing 40-45 turkeys I have found nothing that kills them like the Hevi's. I still buy a couple boxes of the new stuff that comes out and haven't found one that tops them yet. I would love to see winchester make the long beard for the 20's because they patter very well in my 12 but haven't killed a bird with them yet as I almost always carry my little 20's.
  9. If you use 2-3 shells to pattern that's still only a box a year. What cost 20$ that lasts you a year in this sport?
  10. Yes lead kills and has for many years. Myself as well as others on here have been on the same road you are and spent the money on chokes and box after box of other shells and ended up with hevi shot for a reason. If I knew then what I know now I would have bought the hevi to begin with and I would have saved money. I tried the turkey thugs and they didn't pattern well out of my 500 or 870 20ga with the jelly head or carlsons that I have.
  11. 3 different parts of the state, Cooperstown Friday, Gilboa yesterday and Washington county today. I'm willing to bet it isn't the same doe.
  12. I just had what looked like a spike chase 3 does by me. He was grunting with every step and had his tongue hanging out. The chasing I have saw for the last 3 days has been mind boggling. My only guess is the weird weather has forced a 2nd rut? Any one else seeing this?
  13. The 20$ a box for the hevi shot is worth it to me they kill like nothing I have ever used before.and I have yet to see them not pattern well with any of my guns.
  14. Last hunt of the year with just enough snow to cover the ground looks like a perfect morning.
  15. Not right now but they come up on the auction sights from time to time. You can always rebore an 06 or 270.
  16. Still hunted all day until 3:00 sat until dark. Dad and dads friend got does. I saw a lot of deer today and more bucks chasing does than I saw all November.
  17. The plan for today was my old man and his buddy were going to sit as long as they could stand it and I was going to still hunt around they both shot before 9 and I just sat for my night watch. I have seen more deer and bucks today than I have since nz muzzeloader combined. Been sitting 5 minutes and am already freezing. Hopefully they both got their does.
  18. I love my current 7600 in 35 whelen I think this one will get a fluted stainless barrel and have the receiver ceracoated to match. Just have to decide on what cartridge to get it in. Benoitized- I like that term.
  19. There are still some 750's in 35whelen floating around
  20. As I said before there has to be leeway for minor infractions. I'm sure I have done something wrong at some point. Catching a bass in May is not illegal.
  21. Well in 18yrs of having a hunting license and 14 with a fishing license I have not had an issue so I don't think it would affect me or anyone else that Abides by the law.
  22. I have considered the 9.3x62 but I want to stay with the same parent case just incase there was ever a shortage. I have enough 06 brass to last 5 lifetimes.
  23. No, I do but I also understand the concept of accountability.
