Feeding is something that hasn't been talked about much but if dec really wanted to up the doe take if they allowed feeding in those areas I bet it would make a big difference.
-
I bet he like dragging too.

To each's own, me I'm a heavy for cal guy as I like 2 holes and I hunt big woods and never have broad side shots. 2 years ago I shot a 185lb 7 point in the Adirondacks with my 35 whelen he was quartering at me when I shot him and it knocked him down but he got back to his feet and ran 30yds down hill. While I was following his blood trail I found a perfectly expanded 225gn barnes bullet in his tracks the bullets must have stopped in his hide on the exit hole and worked its way out while running. That bullet went through a lot of animal to exit out of his back "ham."

Gun Show Albany NY January 23-24 , 2016

My wife and I have a great relationship and one of the reasons why is because she doesn't go to gun shows and I don't go to her craft fairs. -
Out of curiosity what's your reasons for advocating the light bullets?

Gun Show Albany NY January 23-24 , 2016

I have 2 guns that I have been bringing to gun shows to sell for a bunch of years now and almost every time I leave a gun show its with 3 guns the same 2 I went with and something new. I should just stop bringing them because I really don't want to sell them but I guess I'm waiting for that stupid offer that I can't refuse. -
I don't hate coyotes but I shoot them when ever I have the chance. Actually I enjoy watching coyotes when they are out of season. They are very entertaining to watch when there is pups around. To say anyone who kills them kills them out of hatred is ignorant.
-
sounds like they could save a bunch of money by introducing more coyotes and closing coyote season.
-
I'm not a huge coyote hunter but it is something to do. I certainly wouldn't spend more time doing it to try to make money but I wouldn't turn down 25$ for the 8- 10 I kill a year. Is it a waste I don't know but I can guarantee you that it's a lot less of a waste than most of the governments other ideas!

I would buy a 5lb auto 20ga the day it came out as long as it had an 18" barrel and interchangeable chokes.

17 yds corner to corner in the basement range. Atleast 5 nights a week the old man comes over and we make dart boards on the big paper plates and play a couple games and drink a beer or 2. It's alot of fun and really relaxing standing by the stove "shooting" darts.

From my experience they are a bang flip rifle. Only killed a couple deer withy them but haven't had to track any of them.
-
No it was cut. I can tell by the lack of front sight. This one was made a few years before they made a carbine. I have 2 336's in 35rem they sure do kill with authority. It's one of my favorite "woods" cartridges.

From my research this is a 1961 with the corn cob forened. It was absolutely love at first sight pyg.

That 1stgen VX2 that is starting to get that old purple color looks so perfect on it.
-
Yup! Fits in well with the rest of the family of 76's

Stopped by a gun shop on the way home and my jaw hit the ground when this beautiful 760 in 35 rem was sitting in the case. The best part the barrel was already cut to 18". It has been carried a lot and has some beautiful "patina". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They shoot some does I haven't seen enough does to warrant shooting them. Not that there isn't enough to shoot I just don't need to shoot them. I would guess I'm somewhere around 3-1 doe to buck ration from what I have seen and cameras
-
It's not that I'm not killing deer, I passed on 11 different bucks at home this year. I'm not seeing deer I want to kill.

Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
Buckmaster7600 replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I love these discussions, there really isn't a bad choice. With bullet technology the smaller ones that used to be borderline are now great . The old reliables are only better. There are guys like me who are still looking for the perfect cartridge and most all of us know that there isn't one but it sure is fun buying new guns and looking for it. -

And the 7-08 does better with shorter barrels ????The little 260 has always caught my attention it doesn't do anything better that any of the rest but it's right with them all with like bullet weights. I recently found a minty 7600 in 260 that will certainly get some field time next fall. -
I live in NZ so our hunting pressure is much different than you are describing, in the middle of November after nearly a month of gun season it is normal for deer to be feeding in one of my fields during mid day and early after noon. Our land holds a lot of deer with a really good buck to die ratio and some decent bucks but it has never held a "big" one a lot of 110"-120" but nothing bigger never even on camera in the last 10 years. That is one of the reasons I don't spend much time hunting it is because it's hard to get excited about it when I have 20000 acres of ?'s up at my camp.
-
A little over 180 acres of field Yes it's heavily posted! 80 acres of corn, 25 can't be picked until after season other than 4 or 5 small plots the rest is hay fields with clover and alpha. There is a lot of white and red oak also some apples There is 2 swamps that I don't touch at all one is about 20 acres the other is about 15 both very thick and they are the "sanctuaries" It's not a lack of deer I see a ton of deer at home but I have a camp in the ADK's and that's where I spend most of my season. I love hunting big woods.

You're really splitting hairs with this one. If I didn't own a 308 I wouldn't own a 7-08. The only reasons are versatility and availability even as a handloader having the ability to swing by most any shop and them have some 308's is a fact that can't be overlooked. Basllisticaly they are so similar that I am surprised the 7mm-08 is as popular as it is. All this being said there is something magical about the way the little 7-08 kills critters and to do it in light little rifles with an absence of recoil makes it one of my top 3 favorite deer cartridges. -
Even at extremely heavy it will still only put a .30 hole won't have enough speed to expand and from everything I have read on the 32mags hard casts for what ever reason don't make the wounds that the slightly bigger .35 bullets do.
