  1. Ok, so when you buy your license they print another sheet that says "I will obey the law or forfeit my rights to hunt, fish and trap" then if you are caught you have a lifetime ban. Obviously there would have to be a little leeway for marking the wrong date etc. Then add a 10k minimum fine so for every 10 or 12 cases that pays for another encon officer to be employed for the year, sounds like a win win for me, more LEO's less idiots I don't know how that isn't a good thing?
  2. It's not that I find it intrusive it's that I'm being penalized for someone else's wrong doing.
  3. A lifetime ban may be extreme but you get my point. As hunters and gun owners we are held to a higher standard for example if I was to go home drunk one night and punch my wife and was charged with a demestic I loose my pistol permit for life. So for one "lapse of judgement" it's basically a life time ban. What's the difference? I really like the idea of penalizing the person whos tag it is!
  4. No I don't but I think It would keep the "not so bad outlaws" from taking the risk.As for the other states it absolutely happens but other states have a lot tougher laws that I think helps keep some of them on the law abiding side. Would any of you set your cruise on the highway at 73 like I do if the punishment was loss of license for a year? Now of course there are some who would loose their license and be driving that same day but I bet many would just do the speed limit. And another thing I bet the LEO's would be more apt to press charges if it was a 10k$ fine as to 150$
  5. Just what we need the GOV. to tell us if we are a good enough shot! How about punishing the bad guys and not everyone! Make punishment stricter. I guy in my town got caught with a deer he shot and used his moms tag he got a 125$ fine and they took his reg season tag and the deer "this is what I was told so like everything it could be wrong." Are you kidding me talk about a slap on the wrist! To stop this crap what we need is strickter punishment how about a 1 strike loss of license for life for an illegally tagged deer?
  6. My thought process is that the 35whelen AI is one of my most efficient rifle cartridges available so I thought it might shine in a short tube? I have very minimal experience with the AI's and greatly appreciate your opinions. I am really not overly worried about the performance because I don't think it's needed I just think it would be neat to have one but I don't think it would be worth it for 20fps, if that makes any sense.
  7. Sad day today I'm hunting in the spot where I killed my first deer with a gun. Sadly this is our last year hunting here because the owners are selling. It's been nice having this 400 acres even if I never hunted it much other than late season.
  8. I recently became the proud owner of my grandfathers 7600 30-06 carbine. It's going to be my next rifle build in either 338-06 35whelen or 35 whelen AI. Does anyone on here have any experience with the Ackleys specifically the 35whelen. I already have a 7600 in 338-06 and a 35whelen so I am looking for something different and I find the Ackleys intriguing but I'm not sure if it's worth it to have to get set up to reload a new cartridge if I'm not going to gain anything especially because it is an 18" barrel.
  9. There are laws in place but only law abiding people fallow them.
  10. The technique you mentioned is great for what you are talking about but I was referring to laser bore sighting.
  11. Hey moog would you take a rifle that was bore sighted only and hunt with it if your max range was 75 yds? I will say that I have laser bore sighted a lot of rifles and I would put a lot of money on the fact that a rifle that was properly bore sighted with a quality laser bore sight will kill a deer at 75 yds but I would never try it. To me there is no difference in bore sighting to what the op did.
  12. . I agree and I would put money on it but as I have said it is FAR from ideal and nothing I would ever do.
  13. Not at all trying to argue I'm just speaking on the facts at hand. The op stated he shot "3 times and was satisfied." I don't get dead on by that statement so if in the event that the op shot 3 shots triangulated the center of the group and made the proper adjustments and shot another 3 shot group to confirm then I would agree with you but once again the op stated that he didn't "want to take more shots or make more adjustments" so I get the idea that the op went with good enough is good enough for the op within 2 inches, Maybe. I may be wrong that is just my assessment of the ops post.
  14. As long as there is only a 25$ fine for trespassing there isn't real such a thing. Posted signs keep out the honest ones and they aren't the ones we are worried about. If NY would start punishing tresspassers with something more substantial maybe we could start having private land private.
  15. I as others have said this already. My thing is why risk it? Is it worth it? If he isn't actually perfectly zeroed and say his zero is 2" off at 47 that's nearly 3.5" off at 75 and let's say that there is 1.5" +or- between 47 and 75 we are up to 5" now getting close to a wounded deer as that leaves veryittle room for human error. As I said the other day most likely fine, would I do it no not a chance.
  16. I know in Ohio that a lot of places close same as PA.
  17. I already did. But with what's available it's very difficult, 1 poi is far from ideal.
  18. What I want to know is how since last season you only had time to take a couple 47yd shots? and Chas has a great ? Also?
  19. I don't think the illegal take in NY is anywhere near as much as some think it is but it's very hard to know for sure. I can tell you that the worst management aspect of NY is too long of a gun season. If it was shortened to 1 or 2 weeks and away from the rut it would not take very long to start seeing changes. I'm not saying I'm for it because it would hurt a lot of people's hunting. It's tough for some to get vacation during an 8 week NZ season let alone a 1 week season.
  20. I can speak of Ohio as that's the only "big buck" state that I have hunted and the short gun season certainly helps but the locals at least around my lease shoot the first 3 deer they see on opening day. If it's a spike they don't care. And many of them shoot the second 3 deer they see for their wives tags as well and openly admit it. I don't think you can say it's all about the management, it has a lot to do with genes and nutrition.
  21. I have had a lease in Ohio the last 3 years and shot 2 bucks in the 140's but I won't be going back next year. I think killing a mature buck in NY Is a bigger challenge and more fun. Seeing a rut in a big buck state is a must do for everyone it truly is amazing. To me I hunt for the challenge and shooting a mature adk buck is about as challenging as I have found in hunting.
  22. Early? Now is the best bite of the year, lead core and short coppers on the inline boards with spoons and rapalas are my favorites for the fall bite. Troll SLOW .8-1.3 this time of year
  23. Yup mine wouldn't feed unless there was only 1round in the mag after 3 different mags and 2 trips back to remington it still didn't fix it. But damn would that thing shoot!
  24. I have had all 3 and now have the 7400 and the 742 had a 750 in 35whelen and it was a dud it was an amazing shooter would shot 3/4" groups all day but was sent back to remington twice and never fixed my gun shop bought it back from me at cost and I never asked what the outcome was. I love my 7600's also if your into the 35's there are still some 35 whelens around I have a 30-06 carbine rebored to 35 whelen and its one of my favorite guns I own. One day I will rebore my Benelli to 35 whelen but not any time soon. As I'm building another 7600 now.
