  1. My double Bulls have never failed me I have 2 that are 6 years old and they go up in August and down in January. Hunted one last night and 1 this morning just brushed the snow off when I was done for the sit, and we had a little over a foot of heavy snow.
  2. Unfortunately you are correct! But it proves my point, people willingly choose to break laws daily. And to everyone responding as to how bad of a person/hunter the OP are hypocrites.
  3. Not sure if that is towards me justrob but I don't drink My point is everyone has chosen to break a law at some point in their lives knowing there is consequences. That is all.
  4. The speed limit is ABSOLUTLY relevant, it's a law. If you lost your drivers licence for 5 years for speeding very few would speed. If putting a step in our trees could cost you your hunting licence for 5 years very few would do it. But it's a small fine or a warning so people will make the decision to put a step in a tree the state owns knowing the consequences just as tomorrow I will set my cruise at 71 on the highway.
  5. He asked a simple question. I guarantee everyone here has broken the speed limit at one point in our lives. I guarantee if the punishment for speeding was the death penalty that wouldn't happen, but we all know ifts a measly fine or a warning. There is ABSOLUTLY no difference. Almost all of you are hypocrites Unless you live a perfect life and have never once knowingly broke a law.
  6. I have a friend that uses screw in steps on state land in the ADKS takes them out after he is done. But "he" also doesn't set his cruise at 64mph on the highway and one time he loaded 8 rounds in his 10/22. so "he" is sort of an outlaw!
  7. Hello all, I'm still a newbie to hunting with a handgun "4 years" just wondering who else hunted with a handgun and what you use? Do you also carry a rifle I have a few of the magnum wheel guns and 2 45colts but I have been carrying my glock20 exclusively.
  8. If you enjoy bow hunting so much get into handgun hunting. I live to bow hunt and I did it exclusively for a year. I don't know why but I felt very uncomfortable in the woods with a bow while other hunters had a gun. I have many handguns but I choose my Glock20 over the magnums because I have a self imposed 40yd range. This is my 4th year and still no buck. A handgun is not a bow but with my glock I am just as limited and man does is add a new challenge! Stick with the bow and I guarantee when it happens and you connect it will all be worth it just don't rush it and be patient.
  9. I don't know how that could be considered rediculous? Looks plenty dead and I bet it didn't suffer!
  10. Between my 700 acres I have around 45, about 30 of the 40$ cheapo at dicks 8 ladder stands, A few expensive extra comfy hangons in my all day Rut spots and a 3 built "shooting shacks" for dad.
  11. I do not take running shots when you are still hunting and jump a deer they almost always stop and look back.
  12. Four season-although I own a few magnums I have never shot a deer with one or even carried one deer hunting so I don't know where you are going with "let's say you pull the shot one way or the other and blow half the ham off that great buck with that big magnum" I hunt the ADKS I have a tent that is a 4 mile hike from the road and I almost always still hunt with snow if I jump a buck I know my 35whelen with a 220 grain bonded bullet will go end for end of a deer and quickly kill a deer. You can pull any shot and wound a deer.
  13. Jjb4900 let's say you lose 5 pounds of the 40 pounds of meat from a less than ideal shot that's 35 more pounds of meat than I would have had. As for me I will never take a les than ideal shot on a doe because I know I will have many more chances however I only shoot mature bucks and may only see 1 buck I want to kill all year. If I see a buck I want and he presents me with a killing shot I take it.
  14. Where has "hunting" went I feel too many people watch too many hunting shows, where the channels have rules about what shots they can air. Would I have shot at a running deer my first year hunting ABSOLUTLY! Would I know? "Depends on the situation. As for a vermont "Texas" heart shot I only carry calibers and bullets that will go end to end of a deer "ie" bonded bullets that are heavy for caliber should that be the shot I am presented with. Of the handful of deer I have shot in the rear only 1 has taken a step and he went 15 yards and dies. Now I wouldn't even consider that shot with a .243 or any other cartridge of the light and fast variety.. To the OP have patience and wait for a good shot oppertunity for your first one trust me wounding a deer is the worst feeling any deer hunter can have and you don't want to taint your first hunting memories.
  15. SHORTTRAC Can you please explain HOW A 180gr is "way too" for a deer??
  16. I shoot my deer rifles a few hundred rounds a year and have never seen a rifles point of impact move more than 1/4 of an inch between clean and dirty. If a quarter of an inch makes I difference in your hunting u hunt a lot different than me, that's an inch dinference at 400 yards and at that distance 1 inch is the difference between a 3 and a 5 mph cross wind.
  17. I agree with the noise, I would give up 20yds of range by carrying a crossbow as to my compound. As I said before if I only hinted from a ground blind I would most likely buy one but for the way I hunt I am giving up too much to gain too little.
  18. Last month I hunted my lease in Ohio my dad couldn't come so he told me to bring his Excalibur after shooting it for a couple weeks I was very impressed and for the first time considered buying one. The first morning in Ohio I carried it and holy hell was it awful. Before I got to my stand I decided I was extremely glad my compound was in the truck! It's heavy, extremely awkward and shooting from a hang on stand is drastically decreased. If I was living in Texas and hunted a ground blind looking over a feeder it's probably all I would carry.ifor real world hunting its a huge "no go" for me. All in all it is not worth making my 30yd groups 1" as to 3inches with the compound. Now I am not at all against xbows and for those who like them or can't use a compound they are awesome and give you another season to hunt, but for me the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
  19. To say smaller is better is ignorant. That's like saying a Toyota tacoma is the best truck. Although I love my .243's there are some downsides, I also love my Tacoma but I couldn't live without my f350 either.
  20. The facts of the matter are this, there is not a cartridge big enough for A bad shot as there is not one too small for a perfect shot. I would rather hunt with someone proficient with a .223 than some on who has a .338 that they afraid of. I have dropped deer in their tracks with my 10mm Glock and i have Tracked deer along ways with a few ..35 whelen holes in them.
  21. I used to use the less expensive ammo and still do in most calipers, I had a few experiences with winchester white box and core-lockts separating at very close distances. I still recovered the deer but I like my bullets to have the ability to go end for end at any distance and that why I shoot a bonded or copper solid bullet in my fast calibers like 270.
  22. I love my Barnes 110gr but they no longer make them. I have always had great luck with win. Ballistic silver tis on 130gr
  23. I am very confused as to how you can say the 35whelen as an "acceptable" cartridge but say the 30-06 is arguably over kill. You do realize that a 35 whelen is a 30-06 necked up to .35 right?
  24. It sounds to me that the neighbor is doing nothing wrong until he shoots on your side. I had a guy hubting my neighbors property that set up a ladder stand on a line tree facing my way and only had shooting on my side. So the day before opening day I hung a stand 10 feet from his facing his stand I was in it taking a nap at 3:30am. Once it got light and he could see me I waved and smiled and he climbed down I sat te rest of the morning and that afternoon his stand was gone. I think he got my point!
  25. Why the .243, if you are asking for people's opinions you must have doubts yourself. If you are not confident in your equipment you should get something different. If you are confident and accurate then use what you have and don't look back! I have killed 6 deer with my .243's without any issues.
