I mostly work from home so during the work week I get out 2 hours before work. So I get out stand at 9 am. On weekends I sit as what the time, rut status, weather dictates. In early season I have had very little luck ever in the middle of the day. Last week of Oct through first week of gun is a different story. Out as much as possible.

52 and a few sprinkles, light wind. -
10/13 pm 62 Out back in the far stand for 2 hours. Lots of leaves fallen/falling. Did not see a thing on watch. On the way out jumped two from under the apple tree in front of one of my brothers stands again. My nephew had no luck over the weekend out of the tower. Seems the last week or so has been real slow. This cold front weekend should help.

Out for the first time since Friday. Warm a bit at 62 and just a breeze. Also in 7A. Quite a few leaves fell with the wind last couple days. -
I got to admit I use Valvoline Instant. To me making an appointment, waiting at a shop to get it $20 cheaper is a loss to me, my time is worth more than that. Same with doing it myself. The $30-$35 bucks I save doing it myself well I need to run get the oil, do it and run to get rid of old oil..just not worth my time And costs $10 in gas running! I will say I do keep an eye on them. One place seems poorly run so I avoid it. The other one near me has had a couple of the techs, one guy and one girl there for years and I trust them, if a newb comes over I ask for the experienced guy/girl. I also tell them no to all the extras. I have a guy on the side who does all my regular work for fair prices and his reduced cost on parts.

I have been very happy with the carbide. http://www.deergear.com/product/Hunting/Knives/Pocket-Rocket-Carbide-Knife-Sharpener/pc/2437/c/0/sc/2822/157375.uts?refineByCategoryId=2822 Its not purist but I never have a dull knife and it takes no skill or time!!

Team Muddy here!

Coydogs are very rare. Coyotes are very abundant. Wolves I doubt highly. I don't think a wolf would tolerate letting coyotes near where it was so that is the best clue it is not a wolf, along with that there has not been one sighted in the state in a century. We have some big coyotes here and with their winter fur look even bigger.

I was gonna get outa this tower blind and move to my other stand but still raining Nice and dry in here -
Won't they be gone in a couple weeks? Around me they drop and get mowed up and are gone long before gun season. Hickory nuts and apples I see still but not oak acorns. And my local deer don't seem to prefer hickory nuts. I see them standing in them eating leaves of bushes and saplings ignoring the nuts.

I got one on evening watch -
10/8 am 48 Out back in the far stand for 2 hours. While dark on the way in I bumped one from near my brothers stand so I stopped for a couple minutes it just ran 30-40 yards behind me and stopped so I continued on and a few steps later I have one jump about 10 feet from me. That will wake you up! This one did not go far either so I continued on in. I mowed this trail a couple weeks ago so it is just forest loam and real quiet. I was using a green tinted flashlight though so I was a bit surprised to get that close. Nothing but squirrels until 8:30 or so and I had a small spike go by about 50 yards out. Pretty warm this afternoon I may need to get the boat out instead of the bow!

Had the great idea of mowing my trail in as far as possible it makes for real quiet walking. On way in this morn I bump 1 so I stop and wait a minute or two. It only runs maybe 40 yards or so off my left and back. So I ease on about 20 more steps and boom have one blow and jump less than ten feet off my right front! Man that will get your heart rate up! This one did not go far either so I just kept on to stand. I was using a little flashlight just aimed in front of my feet during this to. With the green filter. Guess I am sneaking in quiet enough as long as they are not on my direct trail! Oh and thanks for the pictures of Amish witch ghosts in my head as I am walking in the pitch dark! -
I got my son his Lifetime when he was 4. He will be 14 in June and never have to buy a license in NY ever! My wife bought me mine 20 years ago.

My nephew and his dad hunted out of my tower blind out back last year and he missed a doe. He did connect out of that same stand on opening day on a doe though, his first. I told him he has the stand one more year, this year, then my son will be old enough and it will be his turn. He should have a good chance at his first buck since I have seen quite a few on camera there. I'll be up in A-Bay on the last family vacation for the year so they got the place to themselves.

Can some help with tis trail camera picture
Fletch replied to ikaravias1's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I'll play! Looks like some dude to me. You can see a spot of white sock at bottom of left leg. I don't see the beard? I would hunt it, I would also have my pistol!! He looks skinny so probably not a big threat unless he is a zombie so load zombie killer ammo in said pistol. -
I leave the hide on. If cool enough I hang for a while outside or in the shed, if not it goes in 6 foot cooler. Cutting up meat before the rigor mortis leaves can make the meat tough. If I was down south or high heat areas and was worried about getting the meat temp down then I would skin but around here and with a cooler not needed. The hide on keeps the meat clean and not dried out. I have never had a problem skinning a deer hide warm or cold.
