  1. Well back from the mini vacation up in Old Forge. The der up there just kill me. I had a 130+ 10 point I would guess 4.5 year old, big body and thick bases, pretty much walk right up to me and the kids. Stopped about 6 feet from us looking for food handouts! Bases were full of tree shed from rubbing. The next day had two more big buck in the back lawn. Another big 10 and the other I did not see myself. Does laying in the yard.....No fear of humans. Man I wish I could of gone out this afternoon it was cold and clear. With my flight at 8am tomorrow I could not risk it. Mowed the lawn instead. ick. Off to NC for work till Thursday night then the wife flies out Friday morning for work until the following Wednesday. The hunting will be scarse until after that with getting the kids off in the am and all the sports in the pm. I am taking the kids to the Seneca Army Depot Sunday to do the white deer tour. That should be cool.
  2. Really not a fan of really warm for a couple reasons. If I hunt any but my closest spots I basically have to walk in in my shorts to not sweat and stink up my spots. Two, I hate sqeeters! Three, the deer where I hunt will not move in the evenings until just dark when it is warm. It is plenty cold now unfortunately on my way to NC for work. More just personal preference. I know I will have plenty of cooler days. Way to keep filling the tags you guys!!
  3. Good job! 24 deer in one sit, man my spots stink!!
  4. Nice job!! Yea I just look at 70 degrees and say na I'll wait. Maybe in the am supposed to be cooler maybe mid 50's in the morn,

    Skinny deer

Tell ya what, I will do this out of the kindness of my heart. Get it made into snack sticks and send it to me. I will eat them and let you know!
  6. I have two I think still in the bags from some ladder stands. They are full harness type. Free to whoever needs one and can pick it up, or I will even pay for shipping if it will keep you from going into a tree without a harness. I am just north of Syracuse.
  7. As with the rest when it is dark never. When it is legal hours and safe walking yes. I have seen, stalked and shot deer on the way to my stand before. Not a lot, but I have and would hate to miss the oportunity. I always am moving slowly in the woods so I should not be falling!

    Skinny deer

Did she have fat in her? Any other signs of disease or distress? Actions before she was shot? Other injuries, sores or smells not usual when you processed her? If nothing out of the ordinary except she was a bit skinny I would have no issue eating it. She might of been the runt of twins or tiplets.
  9. Good luck Zem! Looking forward to following you posts.
  10. Nice pics! That is a beautiful bird!
  11. I changed from the regular 2 blade rage to the chisel tip this year. I hope to be able to show you pics soon!!
  12. I hear you about the warm weather and not too excited about the early start. I as well have no farm areas to hunt and do not want to hog up my areas until the bucks strat moving. Opening afternoon I was out and it was 67 and skeeters all over! Cmon frost!!
  13. I have and will take a doe with fawns. They should be past the point of needing mom but with the earlier start I might wait a few weeks now that the season is earlier. I did have a doe with triplets a couple years ago that I had orders on not to shoot. She needs to keep having trips!!
  14. I am pretty sure upstate New York keeps coming in at the top part of this list on affordable living. As in land, house, rent and such. It was also one of the least affected areas when the recession hit and values went crashing down everywhere. Yes some of the taxes really suck, glad I do not smoke anymore!! I really like the seasons and we are pretty safe from major weather disasters, yea we get snow but most of the state besides where I live gets less than 50 inches of snow a year. No hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, forest fires, or huge floods. I could possibly cosider some place out west like Idaho or Montana but out there in that beautiful county things are a lot farther apart. In NY besides the Dacks you can not be more than 45 to 60 minutes from a city anywhere in the state! I like that I can be in the Dacks in an hour, Canada in an hour, 6 hours to the Ocean or NYC. Everyplace has its pluses and minuses it is what is the right balance for you.
  15. hunting the hamptons!! lol they do not let people like me there!! jk
  16. Congratz on the deer guys!! Neet rack Phade! Blake nice video!
  17. 10/1/12 67 degrees 2 mph wind out of the west Wow I should have just skipped the afternoon. It was hotter than it was supposed to get. I went down in to my new ladder stand my son and I put up a couple months ago. It is down past the hole stand. Sat for 2.5 hours and saw 2000 mosquitos, 6 squirells and one big tom turkey right before I got down roosting in a tree behind me. It felt so nice to get out this morning I could not help going out again. The way the weather looks this week I may skip a few days if it is in the 70's like they say. It is supposed to be a cool weekend but I will be up in the Dacks for a long weekend getaway with friends and family then off to Charlotte through Thursday. I guess then the serious hunting will start!
  18. Hi guys!! You did not miss much today!! Flippin mosquitos about carried me away!! Good luck to you guys as well!!!
  19. 10/1/12 53d cloudy, damp 5 to 8 mph wind from the west Well was a bit rusty getting stuff together at 5-0am whatever!!! Snuck in and hunted the closest stand the new tower. Was out for 2 hours saw 0. It felt good being out, it will take me a day or two to get into the groove. I do not get up this early any other time of the year so it takes a bit!! And the Eagles-Giants game was good so had to watch it all! Go Eagles!! Hope things are slow this afternoon at work, I am ready to get out again.
  20. Getting real close now! Got my hunting clothes all fresh washed. Packed up the backback. Put a fresh edge on the broadheads. Now it is just deciding where to sit. I will be out bass fishin tomorrow and think it over.
