That is the flat on top of a ridge. To my left is bramble and thick stuff, behind me and to my right is the ridge edge dropping down. Got out just for the last hour behind the house on the field edge stand. My Dad was out for a couple hours. No sightings but a couple shots on the property behind me.

Nice buck, pretty cool with the wire! Is it fence wire? Was it just around his antlers?

11/18 21 this am Back down to Tully in the same spot with my climber. Witht the heavy frost I heard deer coming from a long way off. I saw two cutting across in front of me and pickd the bigger at 50 yards and let the 7mm mag rip. Doe went 2 feet straight down. There ended up being two more and they hung around and one was a good doe and the other a fawn. I can just see the back half of the one I shot and I am starting to wonder if I shot the one I thought I was! So anyhows these two hang aroung and bed 50 yards off my left for an hour. They finally meander off and I get down to find a very nice doe. My scale busted but I would but her at 115 - 120 dressed. Had her gutted and down to the truck by 9:30. Man the hike in is all uphill and steep but the drag out is sweet!! I spent the next 3.5 hours after a sandwich doing drives trying to put out a deer to my brother in law and a friend to no avail. Back in the climber for the last two hours. Around 4pm I have the same to deer come out again and mill in front of me for 15 minutes or so until the get enough out front that I have a plan to spook them down the ridge to my bro in law. So I get up and start waving my arms at these two and they look at me for a good two minutes, not the brightest deer, before the take off bown the ridge. After a bit I heard my bil 20 go off. They came right out to him and he took the doe. I would put her at 110 dressed or abouts. I packed out and then heaged back in to help him. I am one beat dog tonight! From the stand she is the white dot above the dead branch

11/17 23 Spent 6 hours on first sit and a big bad zip!! Not a lot of shooting either. Took an hour break and then back in stand for anothr 3.5 hours. 10 minutes before sunset I finally see a deer coming in. Cool looks like a doe....nope a one antler crotch. He come in to 40 yards eases into my mock scrape, glues his nose to the tarsal and the estrous doe pad. Then he pees in the scrape and slowly feeds off. He is one lucky dude!! I had the safety off and crosshairs on his shoulder. After 9 hours of not seeing a thing and never having killed a deer with the 7mm mag I thought about it!! I really wanted to hear that rifle bark! Hopefully a bigger one will come by tomorrow! 4 of us on stand for 31 plus man hours and saw one deer, sad.

11/15 Went down to Tully to put my climber on the tree and make sure everything looked good. Hung a tarsal over a mock scrape. Will drag an estrous on way in tomorrow. Good luck and stay safe everyone.

Has anyone ever used an X-Stand?
Fletch replied to mmkay's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
So nobody has a x stand? -
Man that stinks, it seems the grunt and can have not really worked with good results for me the last two seasons as well. Deer have been going to school, I rarely use scents as well I think deer bust a hunter using a grunt or can or scents and the the next time they hear/smell that they think uh oh stupid guy in tree again scatter!!

Has anyone ever used an X-Stand?

I am not a big fan of the Lone Wolf just a PITA to pack and unpack as well as uncomfortable my brother and brother in law use them soley because they are light. Man 12 pounds sounded good!! My API is so comfy and stable but at 26 pounds or more it is a bear!! -

12 pounds sounds real nice!! Platform is 31 x 21 so pretty good Summit Viper is only 20 x 28 and 3/4 and 21 pounds!! Anybody use one of these x stands? -
All matters where I will be. In Onondaga County using a scoped Ithica Deerslayer II in 20 gauge Rifle zone Remingtom 7mm mag or the Marlin 30-30 lever both scoped. Need to try the new Hornady lever action ammo. Might just carry the scoped TC Triumph on stand love this gun.

I would wait for the quartering away, I have learned that the hard way as well. There is a spot on that shoulder I do not care if your pulling a 100 pounds you hit that you will hear a big crack at get about an inch of penetration. If you do not cut your own when you go to the butcher watch them butcher one and look at that shoulder. I always carry three lights, my cap light, a 220 lumen and an mini mag light. And do not start a rage bashing thread, my chisel tip 2 blade rage did just fine on a 200 pound buck last week. Big hole and a pile up after 70 yards. Just about ANY well made broadhead will kill a deer if put in the proper place. I certainly have put a few in the wrong place and now just try stay level headed or I guess they call that controlling buck fever. We do not make good decisions when we do not think. The key is patience and being able to pass up marginal shots even if it means no shot. That is the toughest lesson of all.

Last post should be 11/11 pm 11/13 am 40 Man we had some wind and rain last night/ this morning! I got up at 5am and it was calm and had stopped raining. temp at 40 thought the deer would be moving after that. Bumped one on the way in to ladder stand and sat for 2 hours nadda! I did pull the game cam from the field had 54 pics in a couple weeks. Stupid camera needs to be replaced! I had 20 black pics and 5 deer cut off so just back half of deer. Cam is reacting too slow. It has spent the better part of three or four years out in that tree, guess it is getting beat. Looked like 4 were bucks by body size and tarsals and they were alone. Always something! Last week it was my Badlands pack coming apart.

Always wanted to try a 280 seemed like a great mid caliber flat and fast with punch. Lots of decent rifles a couple I have wanted to try is the new Savages and TC Icon.

11/12 pm 69 My brother and I hit out back for a short sit. He was in before me. I was just hitting the close field edge so I was watching football and just snuck out for the last hour. Not much going on my bro did jump 2 coming out. I am sleeping in tomorrow with the high temps. I did hit the butcher and picked up 82 pounds of boneless venison from that buck. Yummy!!

11/11 am 49? The 3 of us got out behind the house for 3 hours hoping to continue seeing the deer move. Nobody saw anything on watch. I did jump one when I went up to see if I could find the antler point that I think broke off the buck I took last week. Did not find it. It was in the 60's by the time we came out.
