  1. On another note I have tasted bad venison and two things to surely do it is have hair on the meat or fat. Both ruin venison. Proper cared for game and care taken in butchering to keep clean and well trimmed. Done right just about the best meat you can get.
  2. You lost any credibility with me on the cook to medium to well done. They all taste the same when you overcook them, like crap. Now cooked medium rare is how you do it. Don't need to kill it twice!! And I am just teasin, I know some folks like it like that but the taste is just cooked out of it and toughens it.
  3. I do need to comment. The article is titled "Misconception No. 1: Most of what Americans spend their money on is made in China" Well since we spend 70% of our money on services like housing, food, insurance..... of course that is domestic expenditures. It is the other 30% the 399 billion imported that is alrming. I would hazaard a guess that all the items we buy between $.01 and $300 bucks would make up a far larger than 50% margin would be made in China. That is why you can walk around a store looking for items we buy more frequently and can not find a made in America. We do not import pricy items from China like Cars and Jewelry. Just my thoughts. The other parts of the article agree with what I have read before that we owe our own country the most, which is our future Social Security we will never see when I get there, then China and Japan over a trillion each. It just astounds me why we owe anyone that kind of money. If I ran my household finances like that I would be in jail. Politicians have kneecapped this country, stupid wars, lawyers and lawsuits for everything and wholesale grouth of the welfare country policies.
  4. ?? I did not buy it if you were referring to me. I was just commenting on how hard it was to find American made boots. I have really made a concerted effort to try to buy more American goods. And no I do not eat McDonalds either yik!
  5. I am with the guys above I would like that rib recipe cause I have not had any good venison ribs! On the deer I also have never had a long island deer but have had central deer and Adirondack deer. A lot of factors make up how deer meat tastes and its texture. An Adirondack deer early season has been eating quality foods. By the time harsh weather comes and they may be on a poorer diet the season is over. I have not tasted a big difference on equal aged deer. The best eating is a fawn then a 1.5 year old and so forth. I will say though I used to hunt a spot near Budweiser Brewery and the hops and barley and rice would be in tanker cars along the tracks that bordered the land I hunted. These tankers would sometimes leak big piles of the stuff. I have opened up the guts of more than one deer on that property that was stuffed with the Bud ingrediants. Now they were some good tasting deer!!
  6. Every pair of Carolina boots this place had were made in China. Some of them must make both.
  7. So i needed a new pair of workboots. I last bought a pair over a decade ago, Timberlands and they were great and lasted a long time but they started coming apart. I go looking for boots and immediately grab the Timberlands and they are all made in China now. So I go through every other kind of boot in the place and everything is made in China. I ask the dudes working there if they have any boot made in the USA! They had a couple from one maker Chippewa. So I spent the extra dough and got a pair. Out of 80 or 90 different boot styles from 6 or 7 different makers they had like 3 pair of boots not made in China. I do not know if it is just me but I want my stuff made here in good ole USA. I realize people real tight on a buck sometimes have to go with the cheaper stuff. But, it is really stupid that some boot can be made in a plant in China that does not have to follow any environmental regs and pays the workers pennies then it is still cheaper to ship that boot half way around the world and sells here 10 to 40 % cheaper than any USA offering. The government needs to tax that stuff coming in. No wonder China owns this country. Sorry, rant over.
  8. lol It really is alarming how many of them there are and figure just a fraction are even caught. I kinda believe it is more common to run in groups, families, friends..... The more the rest of us keep our eyes open and use TIP DEC the better off for all of us. I hate when one of these yahoos makes the paper and they always put hunter on it even if they don't have a license!!
  9. There is nothing remotely apetizing about a chickens foot! ewwww And I will usually try anything. yik
  10. Some pan cooked bass fillets with almond slices, butter and a few spices, steamed broc with garlic salt and seasoned curly fries for dinner last night.
  11. I only hunt public land in 7m and our group had a pretty poor year there. I did hear that in bow season more bow hunters than ever where hunting this place and there were deer all over at start of bow. I think the bow pressure is having a huge effect before gun starts in this spot.
  12. I have a wonderful daughter who is 12 going on 30. She is into sports and music. I coach her basketball and softball teams which has been quite fun. She likes to fish but as she has gotten older I am thinking she is not into hunting a whole lot. I also have a 9 year old son who is into skateboarding and snow boarding and all sorts of things to freak out his mom! He has a lifetime license and I am sure will get good use out of it. He is always wanting to go fishing, hunting or shooting. I told them both I am keeping tabs on how much they have cost me since they were born and when they get jobs I expect repayment in hunting land/camp!! lol
  13. Bleu 2 years old. 1/2 Bluetick Coon Hound and 1/2?lab Layin in the apple blossoms. Swimmin in the snow!!
  14. Now that made me chuckle!!
  15. We also used a rod with a red piece of cloth on a hook, 22's or a spear. Not too many things funner when you are 10 or so spending the day with a buddy sloppin up an old slow creek bed or small pond fillin up a string of bulls for Grandma to fry up!

  22. The past few years the Syracuse Post Standard had a pic of one or two each year out of the Tully Homer Cortland area. I do not recall seing any this year though.
  23. I love after new years hunting clearance at Dicks. I have 4 or 5 within 50 miles as well and cruise them all. This year I did not really do too well but last year I think I got 4 ladder stands at $34 a pop, some great base layer at 10% cost, a bunch of scent free bar soap $1 a bar, Scent freee laundry and dryer sheets at less than half price and a hat with the light in the bill for like $4 bucks.
