Yea ha!! I am all for running for president!! As long as it is president of hunts alright and maybe food at our 10,000 acre hunting/fishing club. Wonder if Congel would let us set up at his place!! -
The killing of a deer is a very personal thing. If you do not get that well I do not know what to say. I have taken plenty of deer and some have needed a killing shot. Most have been to the neck not head but no matter there. I was taught to be smart enough not to get close enough to a possibly live deer until it is dead, maybe they were not. A good kick will further that learning process. I do not get the "I just scored a touchdown in the superbowl theatrics" but you see that on all the hunting shows so maybe that is where that come from. I know for sure one thing that bothers me terribly with the video is they let the deer suffer how long while they went and got a video camera ready? No body should find that defensable. I feel bad if I do not do all in my power to make that deer dead as fast as possible. And in my opinion that did not take place here. The second thing is what was the purpose of posting the video? They tell you to show the dude shooting the deer in the head. I still do not get it. Must be the way I was raised. I guess I just hold my standards a bit higher and I respect the animals life that I chose to take not make a mockery of it.

I tried one of those sleds on a 125 pound 6 point a couple years ago. What a PITA! Could not get the deer to stay strapped in, the sled ripped where a tie down went, it ripped also going over some rocks. After about an hour wasted and 50 yards dragged I took the deer the rest of the way off it and dragged it out regular way. It did come with a nice florescent orange strap though an inch wide and about 10 feet long. I chucked the rest and use the strap now since my old drag rope had hit the wall.

I always seem to get some doozie drags. I have no worries though. I can still pull and rest pull and rest. I just take my time. One thing I will not do again is shoot 2 deer way back in! Did that once a few years ago. Shot a 10 point and the doe he was with. Just with my Dad that day who was close to 70. I spent 6 total hours draggin those deer. My biggest dressed 186 and was a couple miles back in but was not too bad. Most of the drag was an old dump road gated off so we went home and got a dolly and some freinds and we wheeled hi out.

My high points would have to be how much time I got to spend in the woods, having quite a few bucks walk within feet of my setup unawares, my brother getting his biggest to date off my land and outa one of my stands, finding my buck, the grey fox, the eagle... Low points; shortage of good hunting grounds, and bow season ending. That is about it I had a great bow season.

Very cool pic! Can anyone blow up and read tags? Nice deer for sure, I do not think one of them beats 130 B&C though. At least four of them do look to be 200 plus pounds for sure and that is what counts in the big woods. I was never aware of a moose season in NY. I would have to guess someone hit Canada

I hear ya on that. I do love smoking and have a decent smoker and know how to use it. It is just this time of year up here it would suck tryin to smoke.
-
My max when everything is perfect is 40. But I would much prefer that 15 to 20 yard chip shot. This is with a compound bow, I have no experience with the cross bow.
-
Yes I would stay away from scents as well. I never really put too much stock in that stuff anyway. Just never really made a difference for me.

um hang on let me post them... should be up soon...... :

I hit three stores around here and not too much on stand deals left. Pretty picked over. Was not looking real hard anyway. I bought 4 ladder stands last year at 34 bucks each then the 10 buck off coupons. I did find all the scent elimination products marked down and the 50% off that so I got like 80 bucks worth of stuff for 30 then anothe 10 off with coupon!! Love after season sale. I got bar soap, clothes detergent and dryer sheets, scent spray.... a whole bag of stuff. Another pick I got was a ball cap with the head lights built into the bill. I have wanted one since beginning of season. I have used the clipons and they get broken or accidently turned on in pack and burn out.... I got the hat for 11 bucks down from 20.

Camfire just puts up one discounted item at a time. You need to check it daily or sign up for notification. Not the way to go if you need something this minute. But if you have time keep an eye on it. They do put up a lot of Sitka gear.

Thanks guys. I sent 25 pounds up to Tri Town up north to get sticks done. They do a good job get them every year. Took over 60 pounds to a new place about 30 miles west of me. Nice setup, clean, nice peeps. I have a bunch of stuff getting made so we will see. And yes I have 8 pounds of venison bacon getting done. Buckhunter, I have thought about it and the sausages would be no prob. But I like a lot of smoked stuff. I do have a smoker but not really set up to do 50 plus pounds smoked in the winter in 3 feet of snow! I may still if I do not find what I am looking for.

I am looking for a good maker of specialty items. As in brats, sausage, hot dogs, bologna...... Needs to be central NY. Anybody have a spot they would reccomend?
