  1. 10/17 pm 56 d Got out behind the house for a bit over two hours. Nice night but absolutely nothing. 0 deer sightings in 10 + hours not a good start.
  2. They just went out this week due to staff cuts. The bowhunting logs that is.
  3. In my area the coyotes would have it gone already and problem solved. I know dear are not bothered by gut piles at all but a whole stunk up deer? I would go in in not your good hunting clothes and tie a rope to it and drag it at least a couple hundred yards away and let the spot rest a couple days. Put a game cam over the deceased to get some good scavenger pics. This is just what I would do not based on any science, I just would not want to smell it and it should be fine to hunt in a couple days.
  4. 10/17 am 43 d Got out behind the house for 2 hours. Got to the stand just before 7am, about 20 minutes later than I wanted. Nice and cold but absolutely nothin going on. Not off to a great start!
  5. 10/16 pm 56 d My 9 year old son wanted to go so we did not get out until 4 due to this would be the longest he has sat on watch. We went to the pop up blind above the hole. On the way in just 1 minute after he left us my brother walked into a 6 point and another smaller one. We could see him but not the deer. He could not get a shot. He jumped two more different ones half way to his stand and two more out from under his stand then saw 3 more on watch and jumped one coming out. So he saw 10 tonight, we did not see a thing. I think maybe we should of gone in at 2pm!! My son did make it till dark, had to pee twice, ate snacks for more than half the watch but had fun!!
  6. 10/16 am 53 d Got up at 5:30 and the weatherman was not even close. 15 to 25 with gust to 35 my.... It was 5 to 10 tops. Moon was sure bright walking in Went to my ladder stand in the hole and sat until 9:30 and neither me or my brother saw a thing.
  7. Pheasant season opened troday as well> i live near state land that gets stocked and you hear more shots than the opener of shotgun for deer.
  8. 10/15 am 48 degrees Well got up at 5:30am and it was windy but not 20 to 30 as predicted. Watched weatherbug and fought with myself about goin out or goin back to bed. Brother on the phone same deal. Finally decided to go at first light and poke in and see how it is. Sat for 1.5 hours before it got bad out with the wind and then the rain. Both of us saw zip. Did not even bother this evening it is blowin to all heck out. Forcast here is strong wind until Tuesday!!!! Flippin great!
  9. Notice the lunch time stroll!! Nice bucks. Does it say 48 degrees??
  10. Biz I think with 24 you should be set for a while!! Well the weather still looks bad but am looks doable with 10mph then getting steadily worse from there.Got fingers crossed. My washer is broke but at least the dryer works to dry off the hunting clothes!!
  11. I was looking for references for a good specialty butcher for central region. I have a great cut up guy and a back up and can do myself on occasion. What I am looking for is the sausages, sticks, bologna........ Who has a great one? I have a favorite for sticks at Tri towm up north. This year I tried another new place for italian sausage, 2 kinds of bologna, keilbasa, summer sausage... The italian was super but the rest not the best. There is another new one local but their prices seemed a bit crazy. I will save up the stew/trim meat and freeze it in gallon bags till end of season. last year I had aroung 100 pounds or more to be made into specialty stuff.
  12. Well it is the afternoon before the bow opener and the forecast is 100% chance of rain, probable thunder, 30 to 40 mph winds with gusts to 50 mph. Looks like last year opener but longer lasting. I will not go out and get scent blown all through my areas in that weather. Need a bulldozer or a corn harvester to get a deer up in that wind! I will get up in the am to check because well weathermen can not be relied on. How depressing!
  13. 30 to 40 winds here with gust to 50! I may stay in bed. Do not want to hog up my spots on such crap days.
  14. Way to get the season started, good job!!
  15. I would wash it as well in a no scent soap. Better safe than sorry.
  16. Good luck out there Burt. Looking forward to the read. Fletch
  17. Heck I am not old yet, I think anyhows!, and I switched to a 20 years ago. A nice Ithica Deerslayer shooting Lightfields. I got sick of target shooting a 12. The 20 is a joy to shoot and it will kill any whitetail and shoots flatter.
  18. Hopefully about 20 to 30 minutes beffore first light. Now all I gotta do is remember what the heck time that is!!! I sleep in all the rest of the year!!
  19. I have to have a drink and now I am off the dew it is usually tea or apple juice. I also always have a bag of apples in the truck and grab one for my pack every time I head out. The other needed item is some granola bars. If I am out all day I will pack a sandwitch or two as well. Also need the sunflower seeds.
  20. I was thinking it looked 130's. If you need me to cull him let me know!!
