    Skulls

Yep burying - I've got some nice naturals I've found in decent shape. for me I simmer - change the water out a few times and use dawn dish soap. One has to really get the nasal cavity clean - its the biggest issue when cleaning a skull - I don't see how a pressure washer can clean it out without blowing out the fragile bones - here's a couple I did last year -

nice natural look papist. I've lost parts before doing that though
  4. If I know the buck well - and have camera pics of him whole - I'd fix him - I've done three in the past - one for me and two for my buddies. One 9 point had a broken Brow and broken G2 and G3 on one side - was such a shame. We had dozens of pics up until two days before he got him. I fixed the G2 and G3s and left the broken brow because he had broken that earlier on and it was all rubbed up with character. We remember him not for how he looked at harvest - but what he grew to become. So many great pictures in velvet until harvest - it was a no brainer to fix him,
  5. I believe that grass is a great spot. some of our more mature deer are surprisingly visible in the summer - they seem to understand they are not in danger - but things change. Our #1 buck at this point is a 9 point and he added about 10" - I'm happy with that most years. Sadly we don't have as many coming back as last year - not sure why.
  6. Great old buck WNY - hope you get a shot at him. Wondering if he was wounded a bit last year - or if March took its toll - hes super mature but I wouldn't thing regressing yet - maybe though! Hope to see him on the ground in a couple weeks for you -
  7. I remember party tags in the mid 1980s. Didn't last a lot longer after that. I've bowhunted since 1984. Back in the 1980s - those few of us that bowhunted had the hunting all to ourselves until the third Monday. That last weekend of Bow was always a HOT one! I loved the Monday opening day and remember missing school for it even. But I liked the Saturday opening day when my son was old enough to hunt - had a few really great opening weekends with him when he was old enough to hunt.
  8. I've hunted 34 years - Since 2010 - my rule has been 2.5 year or older min. And most years I aim a little higher and let plenty of 2.5 year old's pass. I've gone several years in there without taking a buck (but my doe totals have grown by a lot). As with some of the others - I've enjoyed harvesting about every size buck over the years and some of my favorite memories involved taking bucks I wouldn't shoot anymore. I always remember that - not just with the kid hunters - but even those in there 30s etc. So while I stick with my min rule - there are times when I wont settle for the min. - I just love the hunt, and the chase. I like to know what bucks are out there - and have a shooter list that I usually know pretty well. does are for meat in my world - cannot take enough of them - I took 4 last year

  11. Wooly your one horner looks like he's tooting on a Kazoo! looking forward to seeing you pick up his sheds!
  12. Anything north of 60 is really really good in NY and to do it as an typical 4 point is awesome - his mass makes the beam look "short" in comparison. In my experience most people cannot look at one side and envision how big it would appear as an intact set on a deer's head. People tend to see a lone shed as much smaller. Really nice one - too bad you couldn't pick it up fresh! Its in pretty good shape considering how it it could have turned up. NICE!
  13. WOOLY - Congrats on Numero Uno and a fresh on at that!!! Hope there is a lot more to come. Tomorrow should be another good day to get out,
  14. I lived in Guilderland Center when I went to SUNY Albany in the late 80s. Partridge run was a neat place - but if I had to deer hunt there I'd probably give it up. There were pleantly of nice spots on the western edge of Albany that were huntable - with a little research and asking permission back them one could hunt nice spots.. I did my Reasearch Thesis in the Pine Bush - some of that was huntable by by bow but I never did - nice deer were seen there though. Not sure what is its status these days but I'd look into it if I lived there,
  15. Hes gonna be a beast. Must have a real good spot to hide out. Nice progression pics - some of the best and most complete ive seen in NY
  16. we used to climb the inside of the silo at night with a BB gun and a light when I was a boy. Could head shoot 3 or 4 on the top ledge before they realized they needed to get out of there. Some years they would roost in the Hay Barn too they were easy pickings there. We we would eat a few they were OK - but not as good as grouse or mourning dove. If we had time between chores - we would spook them off the top of the silo on weekends - and pass shoot them coming back. Got a good many back in the day - but we were not allowed to shoot any mostly white ones - that was the only rule,
  17. I'm gonna give it a go this year - hope to find a couple as well.
