  1. Congratulations on the recovery. If my ex-wife hunted I'd probably still be married.
  2. I bought A left-over Bear Charge ready to hunt on clearance from a big box sporting goods store last July for $270 plus tax.I replaced a 14 year old bow.If you are new to the sport you would most likely be better off buying from an archery shop like others have said. The advice and experience they can provide could pay dividends in no time.
  3. I had a tick crawling on the back of my neck last Mon. when I was skinning a deer. Put it in a plastic bag and then in the garbage.Had one crawling on garage floor too,Gumout carb cleaner killed it .I had them on me last year too after hunting one evening.I didn't know that there isn't always a rash.
  4. Congratulations that is a unique and rare accomplishment.
  5. Cool, snow already. Sorry you didn't see any deer though.
  6. Sorry ,the last post was for four season.
  7. Excellent. That is good to hear.I put my tag on a basket 5 pt. but nice fat bodied buck last Sun so I will just be admiring any big bucks but my buddies will be watching and down there when the rut is on you just never know what you could see.One of my buddies waits for bucks and the other 2 will shoot a doe if it is an adult so hopefully we will have something hanging up. If not we will still have a good time.
  8. I'll bring you a beer. I have cabin C-15 with 2- 3 buddies going too. It was one of the last available and that was last winter ! I am so looking forward to going. Even if I don't score I already know I am going to love it.
  9. I have a cabin Nov. 8 weekend. I will be looking for a fat doe and loving life having 4 days in a row off. Save a deer for me brothers !
  10. If you had to adjust 4 inches to the left are you sure your rest or sights have not moved ?
  11. Nah, I knew what ya meant. One of my hunting buddies won't shoot doe,he wants a nice buck while I will shoot a doe because I enjoy eating and sharing venison. We get along just fine although I tease him whenever I feel like it. Like I will say to him, here is a box of 5 slugs-should last you the next decade. That kind of stuff.
  12. My father used to describe some of my great uncles as meat hunters meaning they would shoot anything and everything because they wanted to eat what they killed.I think he meant there was a little disregard for the laws.I think of meat hunters as someone (like me sometimes) that is more interested in venison than a trophy or wallhanger but I don't think that is lowly necessarily.
  13. I went hunting with a buddy last Sun. to some state land I found and he and I had checked out a few months ago.Never hunted there before Sun.I found a nice patch of pines mixed with hardwoods and lots of branches to hide me near a cornfield.I climbed a pine with my climber and was really happy about the spot I had found.About 4:30 I saw a doe and 2 younger deer heading towards the corn about 75 yds. out.Hmm,maybe next time I should move over there I thought. At about 5:45 I looked over my right shoulder behind me and saw a deer on the trail only about 30 -40 yds from me.It was browsing on the leaves and when it moved I saw it had antlers.I tried to turn 180 degrees but I wouldn't have been able to draw my bow and the buck was now walking toward me.I froze and watched to both my dissapointment and amusement as the buck walked through the brush and right to the tree I was in and started eating more green leaves and possibly smelling the tree I was in.Boy was I glad I didn't drop my pull rope back to the ground like I usually do ! I literally could have spit on him.He stayed there for several minutes and I hoped he wouldn't smell the pepper venison sticks I had eaten on the ride there. Finally things went my way and fatty basket buck started walking to my left still oblivious that I was about 12 feet above him.I started to raise my bow, bumped it on the armrest (oops) and when he was at about 5 yds. I got the right pin on him and heard a voice in my head say "aim low".I pulled the release, heard a loud "whack" and watched the buck jump and take off running in an arc through the woods. The sound of breaking sticks and branches sounded like a heard of cattle going through.I found half the arrow with the 100 grain fixed broadhead attached covered in blood 10 yds. from where I shot the buck. The blood trail was not good so with the wet leaves I decided to walk slowly and see if I could see him.About 50 yds. from my stand I saw a white belly and cautiously approached with an arrow nocked. He was dead with the fletching half of the arrow inside his ribcage. The arrow went in behind the shoulder, broke a rib and exited in front of the opposite shoulder/low neck.Lots of internal bleeding. This was only my second buck ever taken with a bow and the first with my new Bear bow, I will remember it for a long time and so will my buddy because he helped me drag it back to his truck in the dark.I love bowhunting .
  14. Nope, if you shoot him he will probably be dead.Thank you I'll be here all week. I have never seen a deer looking like that before. He looks healthy otherwise. That is very interesting to see.
  15. I shoot my bow to remind myself I can hit where I am aiming then I just keep trying and don't give up.Don't let the negative thoughts win in your head.Tell yourself I know I can do this. When a deer presents itself think about each step before you do it.Such as attach the release, slowly draw the bow when the deer steps behind a tree, use the 20 yd. pin and so on.This is what I do and I usually miss a deer every year before I connect.I know what you are saying and the best way to have confidence is to get back out there and let what happened yesterday be in the past.I shot over a doe last weekend because I misjudged the yardage, today I had my rangefinder with me.Hope this helps.
  16. Look on the bright side, soon they might not even be afraid of you anymore lol. That is hunting for you, you zig and they zag but then all of a sudden everything goes according to plan.Good luck.
  17. I am hunting in the morning too.Good luck Fasteddie.
  18. It is easier for me today to pass on young deer buck or doe than it was when I first started hunting.I have not been very successful taking bucks with archery so I would still shoot at younger bucks than I would with a gun.Ideally I would take a big doe or two for the freezer and then hope to find a 2 1/2 yr. old buck or older. Some people only want a mature buck and others want meat in the freezer regardless of the age or sex of the deer. I don't care what other people do because everyone will eventually decide for themselves wheather or not to take a shot.
  19. I put in for Nov. 8 and 11.The other 7 days I have not figured out yet.I plan on taking some time during S.Z. bow and a few days for gun too.
  20. Disagree.A spike buck can be a trophy to some hunters. My first deer was a 4 pointer and I was elated at the time.I think the decision should be left up to the hunter.
  21. My goal is to be able to laugh at my hunting buddies because they blew there vacation time on nonsense and I didn't. Seeing deer and other wildlife is my only goal.I love being out in the woods on a calm day.
  22. 2008 Chevy HHR with 126K on it.I bought it with 77K on it 3 years ago from a business that used it for deliveries. I replaced wheel bearing hubs, brake pads, just did quick struts last week and will be doing rear brake shoes and drums tomorrow. I like the car because it gets about 27 m.p.g and has plenty of room when I fold the seats down. Before that I had an '84, '90 and '99 Jeep Cherokee going back to 1990. I have only bought one brand new vehicle in over 30 years of driving.I don't always do my own repairs but I will do what I can including oil changes.I also keep vehicles as long as I can.
  23. This year will be my CVA Wolf with a 3-9 scope, 90 grains of triple 7 powder under a 245 grain powerbelt aerotip bullet. Also use a Marlin Slugmaster with a Bushnell red dot and Remington Buckhammer 12 Ga. slugs.I have not had many shots the past few years during the regular season but I know I can drop a deer with either of those.
